Big Foot Scrog In Coco

Originally I hoped this grow would be drying by Christmas but that ain't gonna happen. We are planning to go to my wife's family's place 7 hours away for 2 or 3 days for Xmas so I may need to get a buddy to do the watering. Fortunately I have a couple friends who are / have grown fairly extensively so no big worries just a pain in the ass..
I think I will postpone the blueberry plans and go for a single strawberry cough next time. I am finding the tent really crowded and having to do a lot of defoliation etc so the strawberry cough is going to be one plant trained for a dozen or so colas spread out much farther.

Starting to bulk up a bit. Don't know if you can see a few burnt tips in the pics or not it's pretty minor and never got any worse from when I noticed it. Seems to be only on plant 2. Still just feeding a low dose, 2.5ml each a and b in 2.6 liters once a day. I really need to get me a ppm meter.

Group shot at lights on.

Noticed a few fungus gnats yesterday and a few today so I have cleaned up the runoff tray, no more standing water allowed. Probably shouldn't have used wood to hold the pots up out of the runoff ughhh... Put a small white container on top of one of the pots right on the coco, with a splash of ancient white wine from the depths of the fridge with the plastic wrap cover and a few tiny holes. We will see what we catch that way. Also have some yellow sticky traps, mosquito dunks aka bacillus thuringienis, and yes even a ppm meter on the way.

Effing gnats! Seems like more this morning and my trap only caught two lol. Not really an infestation yet but it will be in a week. Going in to the city later today so will visit the grow shop and hopefully they have some BTi, Amazon won't be here til Monday at earliest. I think I have some around somewhere but it is many years old, had a 50 pound sack once.

For gnats cover about an inch at the top of your coco with sand. They won't be able to get in and the ones that are already in can't get out. Screws them over. I use it when I get gnats
Yes I have heard of that trick too. Funny thing is I live literally a 4 minute walk to two different beaches lol. Guess I would have to wash that sand but it is definitely an option.. My setup is awfully tight so getting sand in and keeping it there might be an issue..
I have been familiar with BTi for mosquitos and they say it works just as well for gnat larvae so I am going to try that along with sticky cards and cleanliness. Hope it works! There's not a huge amount of them but that can change fast so I want to get it quick.

It does work in a pinch. I've used it myself.

Well the fungus gnats are still there so I deployed the troops..

If this works half as well on gnats as it does on mosquitos I will be a happy camper. A small handful will wipe out every mosquito larvae in a thousand square feet of standing water within a couple of days.. Had to do some searching locally, the grow shop was useless/clueless. BTk insecticide is available commonly but doesn't work for gnats, has to be the israelensis strain.
Also placed some sticky traps but they are transparent, yellow ones are in the mail.
Here's a couple pix of the lower level...

In case there is anyone fortunate enough to have never seen a fungus gnat...

Sticky traps are doing well, caught probably a hundred in a few hours. Still seeing them though so there may be more than I thought. Left the tent open with an extra fan blowing into the closet to help dry up the surface of the coco and cause the little shits to fly into the sticky sheets.. Will have to get up before lights out early in the morning to check and close the tent. Hopefully any larvae are feeding on BTi spores about now and will soon be dead.. If anyone is wondering about BTi its a naturally occurring soil bacteria that is also a very selective insecticide. Takes out insects/larvae with an alkaline gut of which there are very few apparently, mosquitos, fungus gnats and black flies.. Their gut dissolves a protein from the bacteria which then is toxic and dissolves their stomach causing starvation and death. Some jurisdictions rate it acceptable for organic production.. I have used it for mosquito control on a large scale and it works as advertised for them.... I don't know where the gnats came from but we did bring a couple of fairly big outdoor plants in the house a couple of weeks ago so maybe I infected myself... I should see a lot less of them in 48 hours but I might get some sand cleaned up just in case.

Hello mate, glad I found your journal. Love the graphic portrayal of the dying fungus gnat, not really about hate but reserve all it for that horrible little insect. Brought a smile to my face thinking of them dying the slow and painful death you so beautifully described ;)

How's your heat spot going?
