Beensmokin's Bagseed Bonanza

Let me break down the real reason why there is a 18/6 light cycle. Its actually very simple. Its the least amount of light needed to keep a plant in its veg state.
For this reason, many people use the 18 hrs light on 6 hours light off to save on the electric bill and save life on the bulbs.
Especially with HID bulbs. A agrosun metal halide bulb is pretty pricy and you save a 3rd of its life. What is amazing is that even though a plant will grow faster with 24 hrs of light, the energy saving 18/6 is very close to the same size. One of the reasons why is because roots continue to grow even during the dark period forcing the canopy to grow at a faster rate. LOL its a economic thing.
I have cloned with both 18/6 and 24/0 and I still can't prove that 24/0 is faster. Almost everybody I know will recommend cloning or rooting clones with 24/0 but I am not sure why, maybe its the american over do it mentality. I guess I should start taking better record to compare actual times roots develope in both light cycles, then we all can compare, its just gonna take a few grows.

Thanks Mr. Mago, Berry, Moose, and Urdedpal. :allgood:

I'm going to try switching to either a 18/6 or a 20/4 light cycle most likely the 20/4.

Thanks for ALL the input I've been somewhat convinced that plants need at least some darkness but I'll have to see for myself to know for myself. I'll keep ya updated on their progres under the new schedule.

One more question though, which light sched. do you think produces roots the fastest when lighting your clones?

For me 24/0 works best for clones. However Dedpal is pretty much right, there really isnt much of a difference when it comes to putting clones on a 24/0 or a 18/6 light cycle. Only real difference is a slight increase in growth...and I do mean SLIGHT. Still thats better than nothing.

I've always been confused by that too. I think 18/6 might cause less stress for the plant but i'd probably sneak in a 24 hour day in once or twice a week.

Mornin' Buba,
had the phone ringin' at 8am.
just workin' on a new project, vision..
tryin' to buy my building and
turn it into a transitional home for homeless vets.
They'll work with me even if I do have a 3 foot ponytail :cheesygrinsmiley:

Sorry i missed this yesterday....

That sound like an awesome thing to do bro. I'm sure the vets will most def. appreciate that! Glad to see you doing you part Mago, go ahead dude!

I need to add some pics to this journal, ay? I'll go snap some...:headbanger:

Sometimes we just have to make
Our Own work,
come to think of it,
that's what growin' is all about :cheesygrinsmiley:

Being self-sufficient ;-)

I hear ya on that, I've been pondering taking my growing to the pro level and making a living off of it, ya dig. :cheesygrinsmiley: I guess my ultimate dream/goal is to move to a pot-friendly state and have a nice, clean, professional, indoor set-up. No work, no boss.... Just money growin on trees! :cheesygrinsmiley: Ah what a dream it is. Till then I'm gonna have to stay under the radar and secretly small. :smokin:
