Bard's Second Grow: Outdoor, In-Ground, Dr. Seeds Fast Genetics

7 days til summer and we haven't hit more than three days of warm sunny days in a row. This spring has been brutal. Having said that, the plants look pretty good to me :thumb: under those conditions. Soon Bard, soon :)

Yup! Come August, though, we'll be complaining about the heat! The joys of Cdn weather. At least I'm saving with not having the AC on in the house. Had to turn on the heat the other night though. Ha!

Thought I would pop in to say hey! I'm jealous of anyone who can grow outdoors. My house and property are shaded for the most part by huge oak trees. I have a small area in my backyard that gets late afternoon sun for about 3-4 hours. I tried a couple years ago and the plant never amounted to much. I even built a makeshift lazy susan to rotate the plant 1/4 turn each day to maximize the sunlight. The plant grew to a pretty good size. The buds however were pretty fluffy.

Can't wait to see when yours have fully established roots and they take off.

Thanks for stopping by, Beez. This is my first outdoor grow (and only my second grow at all) and so we shall see what happens! Fingers crossed that they will get enough sun. Thanks again for all your help on the reversing project on the other thread. And stop by any time!

The girls have been in the ground for exactly a week.

Weather has been really mixed - a couple of beautiful warm sunny days, but lots of chilly, rainy ones. More rain than sun. The four girls in the ground are doing ok. Actually, doing pretty well considering the weather. They have been putting on some growth, but it is pretty leggy and stretched out on all four of them. Looking for more sun I bet! But they are alive.

Just a modest amount of training on these plants. I topped a week or so before then went into the ground, and have been keeping the main branches anchored down to encourage additional growth.

In order of pics: C99/CM/C99/CM. The last Critical Mass gets the least amount of sun (in the shadow of the deck) so it will always be the smallest, most likely.

Thanks Joe. They were doing better a week or so ago, but the weather has been crap. Still growing, but getting really leggy looking for the sun that doesn't exist these days. Nicer days in the forecast for Sun/Mon/Tues then rain for Wed/Th/Fri. Sigh. Hope you are doing ok - how is your back?

you get that sun mate?

you get that sun mate?

Weather was really nice for the past couple of days. Cloudy today, with rain coming for next few days. I guess they won't get thirsty! Thanks for asking.

How are you and your girls doing?

Sounds like good growing wheather
:thumb:
My girls are excellent. Should see how the Skywalker OG turned out. Cray trics and resin cuz. Thanks for asking.

Yes! Happy to finally see some sun. For the plants' sake, but ours too. Just checked out your journal - amazing haul you got there. Congrats and well-deserved!

Hey everyone... been a few weeks since I did an update. I'm learning that outdoor (especially in-ground) are kind of... boring? Ha!

Compared to growing indoors, with the daily (or even more often) feeding, trimming, watching temps and humidity, etc., outdoors is just kind of autopilot. Girls are doing great. Weather in early June had been really cold and rainy, but late June and July have been really nice. Even got a bit of rain today, first time in about 10+ days. Plants are pushing about 3'-4' tall. A bit leggy, but otherwise good.

Something has been nibbling on the odd leaf or two. Aphids or some other insect. I've been spraying once in a while with Safers Soap, but it isn't too serious at all. Foliar feeding once a week or so (kelp, fish emulsion, desalinated sea water). Sprinkling a little Gaia Green veg nutes at base about every 2-3 weeks.

Other than that, they are just left to do their thing. Here they are: C99s and Critical Mass.

They are looking happy and healthy. Loving what mother nature has to offer.

About a week since my last update. Girls have grown about another 6-8". I'm really not doing anything to them. The most attention they got was today I did a top-dressing of Gaia Green 4-4-4 fertilizer around the base of each plant. Will probably be the last veg fertilizing I do, as I am expecting (hoping) that they will start showing pistils in about 3 weeks or so. In late August, I will do a top dressing of Gaia flower fertilizer. Whatever insect had been nibbling on the leaves has moved on to something else.
