Bard's Second Grow: Outdoor, In-Ground, Dr. Seeds Fast Genetics

Looking good
I'll be following along.
Have a knife day

Thanks for visiting this journal as well! Not a whole lot going on here yet. The young ladies are doing well, just plugging away, waiting to get into the great outdoors later this month. I have backed off the watering, as @Kingjoe83 suggested earlier - it was good advice.

Might post some pics in another few days, if there is something interesting to see.

Doing a Dr. Seeds Nepali Master Kush indoor hydro grow, but started a separate one in dirt which I'm hoping to be able to finish outside. Not from their fast genetics line, but I'm hopeful.

Will bee keen to watch your grow as it progresses.

Cool! I'll check out your journal.

Yeah finally I didn’t fail at something lol

Man I want to try some fast seed autos saw a few strains autos on Instagram contest . Maybe I should take a trip to local hydroponic store and see what he has behind counter lol

Need to follow these fast seed genetics abut closer myself . As my climate here in southern Ontario is all over the place . Been told autos or Indicas here would be more suitable for me as still learning myself after three years lol

I'm excited about the fast genetics. I didn't want to do autos outdoors, as I am hoping to grow some larger plants - that's why I started them indoors, to get a jump on the weather. Last frost around here is about May 24, and first frost mid-October, so five months frost-free. Both of the cultivars I picked out flower in less than 8 weeks, so as long as they start by early/mid August, I should be ok. At least, that is the theory!

Yeah I just have the one plant which I have potted and will move outside once it warms up a bit. Worst case Ontario, I'll bring her in to finish inside. Would be harder to do with a larger crop tho :/

Long as you did your homework boss

Good afternoon, everyone!

Hope that your weekend is off to a great start. Things are going well here. It has been a LONG time since I did an update on this journal - apologies. The five gals that are destined to be my outdoor grow hit a rough patch a couple of weeks ago.

Things had been going great for them from germination. I sprouted six seeds; five of them were very healthy looking, but one was a bit misshaped, so I trashed that one. All five moved along well, and I transplanted them from the solo cups into mid-sized plastic pots with buffered coco to keep them going until the move outdoors. The plastic pots were a big mistake, at least for me. Within a few days of being in the solid plastic, they all started to look really sad - droopy, sad leaves, etc. Classic signs of not enough air. @Kingjoe83 warned me about over-watering, and so I did back way off.

However, as I was thinking about my first grow, I remembered that I moved those seedlings from solo cups into fabric bags with coco. Way better for air circulation and drying out the coco. I ran out about two weeks ago, and got some more fabric pot/bags from my hydro store and moved the plants. Within two days, things were looking much, much better. I will never use a solid plastic pot again, at least with coco.

Anyhow, since that time, they have been doing pretty well. I don't seem to get the really quick growth that others do, but of course they were recovering from their near-drowning experience. Here they are as of today, DAY 37 above ground....

Group shot (sorry about the purple lights) - notice the one underperformer in the bottom left. It is a Cinderella 99 that probably won't make it to the next round. That will still leave me with 2x C99, and 2x Criticals, which was my goal - four plants.

And here are some single shots. I topped the two biggest C99s. The Criticals will also get topped when they are just a little bigger - want a little more space between the nodes. You can see some of the damaged lower leaves from the plastic pot fiasco...

The weather is improving here (lots of rain though). While the days are nice, the nights can still get pretty chilly. Going to keep them all indoors for another week to recover from topping and for the evenings to warm up. Shooting for next weekend to get them in the ground outside.

Have a great weekend!

Nice update

Make sure your pots are off the ground too so air can dry out the pots evenly .

Give them a week and they should take off I hope .

Raining and wet here just chilling today myself :passitleft:

Thanks Joe! Yes, my pots are on a drain pan, and the water runs away to a collection bowl. There is also a small fan blowing in the area (not directly on them) to keep air moving. Yesterday was beautiful here, but today is rainy and gloomy. At least there is no frost in the forecast for the coming week!

I am making dinner for Mrs. Bard and me - staying home and dry. Appreciate your checking in.

Nice update Bard. Fabric pots are awesome. It's hard to over water and like you said the roots can breathe better. I hope you get your plants in next weekend.
I've had my seedlings being conditioned for the last week outside. Had to rig up a tarp today to keep them dry as our ON weather has been horrible as you know. Tomorrow and Monday are full of sun and warmth so hopefully that jump starts them.

Have a great weekend!

Yeah I think summer has shown up here in Canada, Ontario.

I used shoe trays and then cookies sheets those racks ya know and fed right through till run off after the first few weeks and then just shop vac it all and empty to 5 gal bucket then hauled it down stairs emptied out. If I needed more water o would grab it from tub and let sit min 24 hrs .

I really think I will do coco and dwc next run just one dwc 5 gal pot .

I had one fan on the floor rotating around all pots And one aimed up at the lights in opposite corner that was my 4x4. my three by three one 12 “ oscillating fan and a six inch up shooting towards the fans of leds

My three by three was perfect veg tent no exhaust used temps 79f and 65-75% rh

With no humidifier needed cause my room
The tent was in was usually no higher then 70f around 66-72f peak . Killed it for veg in there .

@Derbybud says when young and starting water around the edges not the middle leave a little one inch drier area ?

Sound about right derby ?

Yes - it was amazing how quickly the plants bounced back after moving into the fabric pots. Weather has been really mixed here over the past week or so - warm then cold, sunny then pouring rain. Spring I guess! Supposed to improve this week.

Good luck with your outdoor grow as well!

Sounds good! I've been using a shop vac to clean up as well. Fortunately the laundry room is nearby so I can dump the waste water down the drain pretty easily. I had to switch from a humidifier to a dehumidifier just in the past week or two.

Sounds like your tent was perfect for vegging!

true Joe and nice call. If in coco watering away from the plant the water/feed will wick some toward the plant anyway but will stay moister toward the outer rim and will cause the roots to go searching for more and will build a healthy, solid root zone. And we all know what a good root mass will get ya. TREES
