Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Is algae a problem?

I've seen plastic covers for Rockwool cubes but am thinking they seem like an unnecessary cost and extra step that risks contact with the trunk and restricting growth.

Wonder how neat and tidy a plastic cover would make that look now lol....or are there other covers?

aaarh now you have something on the picture that covers most of the wool don't you? i thought it was always bare like the picture i commented too.

and no i would not waste money on those covers myself i would just make some like them :)
Personally i just don't want those green narly algae in my water reservoir or anything. but of vourse a bit will grow just by the stem a bit but i do not want that stuff to multiply and make my roots all greasy..

and of course they have to be mounted on some sticks or something abit above rockwool so it does not trap the moist as just stated by another And i made mine from left over mylar. it gives your undergrowth reflection while keeping algea from growing that way :)

And as long as the algae is green in color it is not doing no harm but when it turns blackish dark (dead and composting material from algaes i would think it is) it can start suffacating the plant. and by puting some mylar cover your prevent the algae from light and yes then it cant live in the wool. The black stuff also is a nursing ground for vira and bacteria and fungus that will maybe harm the plant

so not saying it will be an issue just say it can.

:Namaste:

For pure rockwool, just put about an inch of play sand from Home Depot on top. It is sanitary. It also keeps fungus gnats out.
Great idea. I have a friend that uses diatomaceous earth to top their soil. It is pretty much inert, yet it will kill any creep crawlies that might be trying to get into the soil.

Dark Devil in Doc Bud's High Brix. Really hoping to pull a decent yield off this guy. We are about 26 days above ground at this point. Looking ok to me, a bit small for my liking, but this is my first auto.

I'll keep em crossed for you! My little dark devil just threw pistils about 4 or 5 days ago!

Appreciate it. Looks like your plant was above ground 5 days after mine. Mine started throwing pistils on the 13th or 14th. Your LED has the bloom switch, mine is full spectrum all the time, so that may have something to do with it. Nice to find someone with a Dark Devil around the same age as mine.

Yeah my man they broke ground 12/28. mine do have the switch for veg & bloom and I keep both of them on to give the young ladies full spectrum !! :) yeah I know I'm glad to find someone too. I was scared when I saw the pistils that she would stay short, but she is steadily growing !

Yeah, I wasn't exactly excited to see this much pistil development so early in the life cycle. Only 6 inches tall. I guess we will take the ride together. :high-five:

Yeah, she has been pushing pistils for probably close to a week now. She is a cute LITTLE thing, but I am hoping she grows into a nice BIG girl with a decent yield. Fingers crossed.

Did it get stunted or held back in veg?

I've been told (by somebody that doesn't really do autos but has been growing for longer than I've been alive) that stunted autos often end up being a main cola and not much else.

I know where I went wrong with these ones anyway.....I'm crap at hand watering and they got way too dry early on.

The ones in the background are photo period plants that ran out of water. The other autos I managed to stunt got topped by slugs so they looked a bit different and ended up even smaller but I still got the best part of an ounce of nice smoke from one of them.
