Ase's Perpetual Fun With Coco

Morning Ase hope you have an awesome Tuesday!

This flip delay should put us even closer than I expected - I tend to go longer than you, but between things progressing more quickly for me than previously, and you going longer than usual, we should line up pretty closely. About 17 days from now would put me around 50 days from planting which is about where I expected.

I’ll be starting some new seeds right after flipping as well. I keep thinking I’m settled on strains, then talk about it and change my mind. Have you picked your next run yet? Are you going to go ahead with the revenge grow? I’m pretty tempted to take another crack at LA Confidential and nail it, but I want to grow other indicas first. I think it’s going to have to get in line.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I bet we flip within a day or two of each other.

I've got it narrowed down to my revenge grow or a grow with my 4 best strains. Leaning towards doing the 4 best strains. I think that would be my Chemdawg, Purple Envy and White Rhino. I'll likely either do Super Iced Grapefruit again (it looks fantastic this grow) or I may just do my favorite strain of Gorilla Glue as the 4th one. Even though I haven't grown Gorilla Glue before, it's still one of my favorites and gets consideration.

It's never easy to decide. I always change my mind last minute. I've still got about 15 seed of strains I've never grown that I need to try out too! It seems like it's never ending, but like I always say... that's one of those "good" problems to have.

Day 25 Flower Tent A - Day 31 Veg Tent B

Did a small amount of defoliating on the flower girls. The Crown Royale is trying to make a case for the #1 spot recently. It and the Super Iced Grapefruit are incredible looking in my opinion. They are stocky and stacking nicely. The buds should be really good on both of them. The Blue Dream will do well but it's too tall for my liking. Luckily it stopped right where the heat from my lights ends so it will be fine. The Green Crack is just starting to stack now but she's not going to be a great yielder.

Tried to get a couple of different angles than normal a bit.

The whole setup. This tent has the Mars Hydro 144w reflector series lights. In my opinion two are ideal for a 4x4 tent.

The veg tent is where the fun was at today. In a recent post on Dobewon's journal he did a great write up on training. There was a great point in there that if you do the whole topping at the 4th node and culling the 1st and 2nd thing that you should start training the 4 branches left while they are still pliable. They get hard and it becomes more difficult to train them if you don't get to them early. I think when you quadline the plant is now sending everything it's got just into 4 branches instead of 8 and a top. They bulk up quick to handle it and become stiff. It's actually an essential part to the quadline in terms of the science.

I did a defoliation today on the veg girls. They are moving quick so in a couple days I'll probably be looking to do another one. The plants are all beginning to take their shapes now. As per the usual, I got through with my first plant and then remember to take a before picture. I do that every time you'd think I'd learn remember by now. One of the side effects of this wonderful plant I suppose. :D

The aftermath. Remember to try and leave the branches at a slight angle instead of being completely horizontal or even pulling them down below the node.

Tutankhamon is now looking like it is going to be the smallest. It didn't help that when I was training a bit last night that one of the arms split a little. I just was a little too rough with it and it will now likely it will take a short bit of time to recover, essentially sealing it's fate as the small one of the bunch.

Critical Cheese is pretty lanky. This one is going to be a big one. The growth is pretty crazy.

Anubis is the surprise of the whole thing. She germinated about 2 days behind the others and had a weird leaf. Started out pretty slow and now is just crushing it. I remember thinking I wasn't even going to train her to give her a chance. Funny how that works.

BlackJack is looking really good. I'm very excited for this one.

Looking good Ase. Now that I have some Anubis beans, I will be watching your plant's progress.

All of your girls look amazing to say the least Ase!! I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all that you have done in this journal. Its incredible, so much info, so well laid out and delivered. Without fail responding to everyone's questions and comments. :bravo:

I am digging the quadlining and am currently using the technique on my girls. :Namaste:

I'm glad that you like my journal and I appreciate all the compliments. Most importantly, I'm glad you are trying out some of my techniques and you're liking the results! The best part of these journals are that you can read about something and then look at it via the pictures so it completely makes sense. It's really the best way to learn.

Also I don't intend to run a journal where I claim to help people and respond weeks later. Thanks for noticing that I respond to all questions/concerns in an efficient manner. That's one of the thing I try really hard to do but I also don't have the app give me alerts or anything. I don't want to be obsessive about it and I usually let people know in advance when I'm on a trip or something so they know I'll be slower than normal answering. I would just hate for someone to go elsewhere and get bad information and have it ending up ruining a grow. If there is one thing I am really good at it's research and making educated decisions so I really stand behind what I do.

I see you have a completed journal but do you have one for the current girls? I'd love to see what they look like.

I was going back and forth on whether to go ahead with the proper defoliation last night and seeing that you had done so basically sealed the decision for me! I’ll get some photos up tonight so we can compare (pots aside) apples to apples. I seem to have a similar one for at least 3/4. Your Tutankhamon is my Royal Gorilla (smaller plant but potent strain), your Critical Cheese is my Liberty Haze 2 (lanky but structurally very nice, and should be a big plant), and your Blackjack is my Violator Kush (the clear star of the show so far). I will say your Anubis looks better than my Amnesia x OG at this point though.

Thanks for the shout out! It’s those little nuances that really make the difference and you just don’t get a feel for them until you’ve been through it.

Can't wait to see yours in their final pots. If they are in aggressive veg mode they should bounce back and fill in like this!

Wow, very nice. All 4 plants are really moving.

I did some additional defoliation last night, and while I saw the plants respond well day over day, I’m not sure it’s quite as noticeable visually as that. I finished up the defoliation last night, there’s no more to take before transplant. So they’ll go either tonight or tomorrow. I took pics the last 2 nights, so whenever I make the decision to transplant, I can show the defoliation and the bounce back.

Can't wait. I've secretly thought about transplanting twice like you are doing so I want to see for sure! I have an odd feeling our plants don't look too much different.

Check out my photos - we're pretty close. I think you have the edge for the most part, but I'm really happy with where mine are and I'm pumped to see where they go now that they're in the smart pots. I think we're both in for some fun in flower. Around Feb. 10 weekend, you think, for the flip?

Truth be told I was looking yesterday and wondering if I should flip them before I leave for my trip. I won't because I want to be around for the stretch but these girls are getting big fast! Seems a little faster than normal for me. I could be wrong which is why I have to go back and look at some point today. Grows become a blur after a while when your harvesting every 10 weeks.

Likely I'll flip the day I get back which is February 10th and that is 47 days veg.

Day 29 Flower Tent A - Day 35 Veg Tent B

The veg tent just keep booming. I can't even imagine what they are going to look like when I flip them. The Tutankhamon in the upper right is recovering nicely from my breaking of one of the limbs. Will do one last major defoliation on them in a few days and then they will be left for about 8-9 days to just grow before the flip. Just did the last of the training outward that I am going to be able to do on my quadline. All 4 are looking pretty good though! The hope for four strong plants going into flower continues. Hopefully no little gals this time.

The flower tent is stacking nicely. Last task in this tent will be to tie the Blue Dream up so it doesn't fall over while I am gone on my vacation soon. She will also most likely go the longest of the 4 in flower. All the others have much better bud development by now.

Green Crack is just small! One of her main arms.

Crown Royale has slowed down just a bit. Showing really good sativa signs so I am excited about that.

Super Iced Grapefruit looks to be Hybrid Indica. Still my favorite.

Flower Tent A Day 31 - Veg Tent B Day 37

The flower tent seems to be going well. The smells are really picking up and starting to see frost everywhere. These gals are seeming to love the extra P-K I keep adding to them. For those that don't know I've been running P-K up about 100ppms than normal after the bounced back from the first defoliation in flower. No sings of burning or anything so may continue to push that up. P-K boost part of my schedule starts when I get back from vacation and I am going to try to cut Nitrogen a bit more than I normally do. Just tinkering with things but these girls are doing great.

Little Green Crack and Big Blue Dream.

Whole gang. It show pretty noticeably that the Blue Dream is developing much slower than all the others. I'm sure that means an extra week or two in grow time.

I opened up tent B today and thought, man these are ready to be flipped. Usually my goal would be to be flipping in 5 days (6 weeks veg in total). I will be going 47 days this time and flipping with Dobe and Swagg. That's 10 more days in veg and I thought they looked ready today. These are going to be monsters. I have a lot of hope in 4 good sized plants with this one. I so this every time but I had kind of given up on that this time due to snapping one of the Tutankhamon main branches almost completely off. It has bounced back incredibly though.

At this point I couldn't let them just continue to grow as the ones in the middle would be way taller than the 4 branches that I quadlined. Here is the fun part about quadlining. The concept is creating 4 incredibly thick branches for each quarter of the plant to feed to. After that you can kind of train however you want. I usually don't tie down more branches but 4 but I had to do 8 with each plant. They should end up with a really nice bowl shape to them. I know I said I was done training but...

Before any training or defoliation. These girls are growing like crazy. Critical Cheese is back left. Anubis is front left (TheBlaze I know you are keeping an eye out on this one. She hit an incredible growth spurt lately and might end up bypassing the others before flip). BlackJack is front right and Tutankhamon is back right.

Just after training and defoliation. I'll likely put up a picture of the bounceback tomorrow.

Sideshot. These ones are being kept pretty low this time. They are growing so fast I made the decision to really pin them down good this time. Those cheap metal stakes and tomato ties work really well for training in fabric pots. There are all sorts of ways to do it but it's so easy to adjust this way. I used just the straight stakes once and they did fine but left a lot of bruising on the plant. The tomato ties are a good tool and come in bundles where you can cut them to whatever length you want. Pretty cheap option as well.
