AscendedMasterKief's Third Grow: Bagseed - Soil - CFLs

Re: AscendedMasterKief's Third Grow: Bagseed, soil, CFLs

Howdy y'all. Hasn't been much going on with the two soil gals, but the 3L is growing a bit every day, and growing lots of roots! I think the two soil birds ain't doing much because the soil has been wet (pots a little heavy) for a week now. Been not watering them, but keeping 3L topped off with plain water, and fertilizer once a week. Broke down and went to the big box store to get some fert. Got "Orchid Better-Bloom" water-soluble fert. It's 11-35-15, with minors. It is not perfect, of course, and could use a bit more N at the moment, but I have been refusing to use anything with urea this run. Or MG. Or Vigaro, which is close to MG. The "better-bloom" also has a "Better-Gro" type of fert, at 20-14-13, so may get that till flowers begin appearing, then switch back to the Better-Bloom. The package says to use foliar feeding as well as roots, but that's for orchids, I'm sure, as I don't want to put any "food" on my girls' leaves. Temps are hovering around 78-86 F during lights on, not sure about night time. They're all still on 12-12, from seed to finish, under varying amount of CFL light. Beauty I've found in my light setup, is that I can turn lights on and off as needed, for thermal or other reasons. Depending on how I arrange the gals, not all the lights even need to be on. I don't pay an electric bill, so could say screw it, but I'm a nicer guy than that. I'll wait till they need it, then let 'em have all the light I got. I'm still wanting to put a single 4' flouro tube in each corner of the closet.

I ought to mention, one of my gals had hurt leaves, almost exactly the same as what had happened in KingJohn's girl KingJohnC's Brainstorm Haze Soil Indoor Grow Journal I assumed it was heat, and killed a few lights, and haven't had trouble since, but my little gal is a runt still. It's the one on the right in the back. Number two is also small, but is still growing, in the middle, behind #3, the 3L. Almost forgot, #3 has leaned over rather lazily, likely due to me pulling the hemp support stalk out too soon, before its truck was fully healed. She doesn't seem to mind though, as she is still facing the lights, and throwing up her leaves in praise to the gods of light and water.

I'm still quite shocked as to how fast the 3L (is this a dwc? didn't want to call it that if it wasn't) is growing, compared to the soil gals.

Re: AscendedMasterKief's Third Grow: Bagseed, soil, CFLs

Nice work with the DWC, just keep a close eye on the res temp, I learned the hard way,had to cut and rinse a few times to end the rot. Defs or other issues will much quicker than soil plants, but you're correct, growth is explosive with DWC.

Wanted to take pics, but camera is broken. :( Dropped it last night. At least it's a cheap point and shoot. Got a phone camera, but it needs a cable to xfer pics to pc. Anywho, the hydro one is growing awesomely. It's even got female preflowers. Little almost microscopic twin white hairs. :) #2 (soil) is getting a little taller, slowly, and isn't showing any flowers yet. #1 (soil), however, is staying tiny, but is showing female preflowers. She's only a couple inches tall, and her leaves are super tiny.

Watched a stupid reality show with a friend today called "Blue Grass Boys" or some shit. Was obvious they were using plastic plants. I just about pissed myself laughing.

Had what appeared to be root rot on the dwc girl (yes, girl confirmed! :) ). Cleaned out the res with bleach, rinsed, waited 10 damn minutes for the running tap water to cool to normal (My plumbing fed by water hose, which in the mornings, sits in the sun). Snipped the end of the roots, which was the bad part, they look fine again. Dipped them in h2o2, then plain tap water. Got it back under the lights, bubbler going, in plain tap water now, for a few days. Also, lowered the plants by about a foot, left the lights where they were at, hopefully to help control heat. Wishing camera was working. :(

No, only stuff from the local big box places.

Got what appears to be fleas, in the soil of pot #2. Since they're there, I assume they're in the top of #3, and also in #1. Gonna get some diatomaceus earth, soon as I can. Thankfully, no bites on me, and no obvious ones on my cats. I think they came from outside, when I had the seedlings out there. Once I get the DE, may use it elsewhere, too, since I got an ant problem inside the RV, too. I'm just thankful the ants aren't near the plants.

No John, I have been able to identify them as fleas. The evil little buggers that bite and suck blood. Why they're sitting in a place there is no blood, is beyond my understanding. But I want to get some DE, and spread it on the surface of the soil in the pots. Could use some elsewhere, too, but that's another story, and for different bugs.

EDIT: since my main camera went FUBAR on me, I do have a 1.3MP digital camera, with a whopping 8MB of storage on it's CF card.

It just needs four AA batteries.

EDIT 2: #1 (the runt that had leaf death, and still does) has a tiny bud developing. I may have to bring her in front of my webcam. #3 has more than a few developing flowers. #2 is still just a green vegetable.

Gonna need help to use the webcam to snap pics of these gals. Gonna leave 'em in the closet, of course, but I gotta hold the camera, and someone else has to click the capture button. Will get some hopefully decent pics up later today. This journal looks naked without any pics for almost a week.

#1 has still not shown sex. It has fat, short leaves, and look indica dominant. It's been at least month or so under 12/12 from seed. Is it normal for no flowers yet, or maybe it's an auto or something? Maybe I could reduce my light 1/2 hour or so a week, to speed things along, or just leave well enough alone, and be patient. I honestly think patience is my best bet. #2, on the other hand, has almost no leaves, is about 2 inches tall, and has at least 6 pairs of hairs on her at the tip. #3, in the 3L DWC, is growing, and growing, and also growing more roots! Lots of brand-new sparkling white roots growing since I trimmed the bad ones off.

Nice. Closet grows are interesting. I like that idea you did with the 2L for half soil half dwc. I had good success with an auto white widow that was half perlite half dwc, similar to what you got going on with that 2l, but mine was 5 gal. I pulled 3oz off her, which is good for an auto.

I recently gave up on dwc, though, because it just takes too much work. I like the organic pellets in coco+perlite. Lazy, simple, works great.

What would probably fit easy in that closet set up is one of those ez bags they sell at hydro shops for c02. You just hang them up, that's it. They just need light to produce c02. They last like a month or two, and produce a good amount of c02. More than brewing will.

The DWC is three liters. Hoping, if this grow is successful, to go to something like coco/perlite, or hydroton, and proper specialty nutes, or organic. I want to go all hydro, got 8x 2L, and a rack for them, so even though they're a liter smaller, they should make up in number. Wanting to do clones in them, instead of all seed, but I also want to try a few auto's.

Right now, the 3L is putting out massive roots, pure white, and growth up top is coming along great. There are a whole bunch of flowers developing, but they're each still single flowers/calyx's. #2 is still just a 2" tall mini-bud-to-be, with a tight bud formation. #1 may have finally begun showing sex, as I saw a tiny white hair, but then again, that coulda come outta my beard, lol.

Bought my first seed(s) today. Got from Herbies, Seedsman White Widow regular. Free seeds are going to be 1x World of Seeds NLxSkunk Feminized, and 2x KeralaxSkunk#1 regular.

Anywho, back on topic: #3 is growing nice tight nodes, and there's a ton of budsites on her. #2 is confirmed female, just a late bloomer, I guess. #1 is still just a 2" tall mini bud. Ain't gonna have a camera for a couple weeks, I found out today. Outta money after buying seeds, lol. >>facepalm<<

I put a little less than two liters of plain tap water in the DWC yesterday, checked today, it drank more than half that since then! She's one thirsty girl. Checking twice a day from now on, methinks.

If I remember right, today will be 40 days from planting the seeds......40 days of 12/12.

Planning on taking some cuttings off of #3 (the DWC), to make a few clones. I figure, I can let two or three clones grow under the same 12/12 for a few weeks to a month, take cuttings off of them, and so on. I may just yet be on a road to a perpetual grow. Always havin' bud in the closet, and bud in the jar. With that plan in place, now gotta consider what do I need to implement it. If I continue with my other plan of going all 2L DWC, then I could go soil-less completely, or just root the clones in a bit of soil on top the DWC's, like my current girl is in. Soil/hydro hybrid would be cheaper, or at least locally accessible for me, but hydroton, rockwool, or coco is easily available online. Woe on me, the decisions! lol

Got a camera. Got screwed though, sort of. Good camera, but can't transfer images to my PC unless I'm running Windows 98, lol. So, anywho, grabbed a bunch of pictures, and they're stuck on the camera until I fire up a virtual machine, and transfer all the files. Good news is, Windows 98 will run awesomely on my computer in a VM, so it shouldn't be too long until I can post some pictures again!

44 days of 12/12 from seed.

Finally, a picture again! Only one today.

A few pictures today! It's day 47 of 12/12 from seed. I just now reduced the daylight hours by a half hour. Bent over #3 yesterday, because she was getting TALL! #1 is still a One-Bud Runt. #2 is growing taller, slowly, and is developing a top cola, still tiny. #3 is drinking like a fish, and getting bigger every day. I've seen it a lot on here that hydro is faster than dirt, and #3 keeps proving that to me! I've been very careful not to over-fertilize her, but have been adding almost a liter of water a day to her reservoir.
