Arteekay's Second Grow - Autos & Feminized - Mixed Strains

Looking good RTK. But I feel I must expose you. You obviously have grown before you came on this site. Or you are the rain man of growing. I just see a very efficient operation with lots of knowledge to back it up. So just come clean. You have done this all before. Enquiring minds want to know.

Or is your third roommate Jorge Cervantes?

To understand where we are with our plants you have to understand that rtk can channel his OCD to specific tasks or functions. I can ask a simple question like "hey I'm thinking of getting a new TV, any suggestions?" and then go to bed. When I get up in the morning I will have an email with all details.. Suggestions.. Pros/cons etc of all the latest technology because he's spent hours researching when I am fast asleep. The same thing happened with growing.. My suggestion every few weeks wasn't really getting anywhere until I found seeds we could openly purchase (we had no idea it was that easy) then things changed overnight. Since then that crazy bastard is only sleeping a few hours a night soaking in everything there is to do with growing pot. The part that pisses me off is he remembers it all while I'm the guy asking what the pH should be for the first two weeks of the grow. He's just an extraordinary student when it interests him and with this there is a pretty enticing treat at the end.

Jorge and many others came to stay with us for a good month, via hundreds of hours of youtube videos. We've slowed down the research now, but I literally watched dozens of grows over years of video posts. Colorado finest and PissDrunx0420 may have been how I found 420mag in the first place. Then since getting here I've spent hundreds of hours reading hundreds of journals.

Beyond that it's been all this community and it's wonderful members, not the least of course is ShiggityFlip, that guy saved my grow back in early December with one "cold floor ya moron" post just out of the blue. Pretty sure he had a camera in here somewhere after that for a couple weeks. :)

Efficiencies are definitely still being worked on. We spend an obscene amount of time and energy on them. First up is a sink in the basement so Jaybiz can stop carrying water buckets up and down the stairs. Getting some actual watering cans maybe would help as well, we're using pitchers, measuring cups (cause they have a spout with a drip edge at least) and buckets.

Why haven't you told too many people that? Feels too early and it turns into a debate I'm guessing?

We still haven't topped our autos yet when we said we would. I'm a little apprehensive of doing it, but we committed and will go through with it. Maybe I'll get Jaybiz to try his pimp hand on them tonight.
Exactly! I just dont want to get in a debate, I was taught to top that early by an old head and it makes sense to me so Ive always done it on photos like that. Ive topped later to but I like what ya get when you top that early.
I wanna do the same thing to my Auto's but I'll train my first 1 and then I swear on god I'll top my 2nd at the 2nd node and see what happens lol.

Thanks Jaybiz, I'm taking that all as a compliment rather than a clinical diagnosis. :)

I'm not really sure why it took me so long to catch the bug, a little scared of the HID lights from my experiences in back stage work in community theatre and TV production, and of course Stephen Harper's party being in power and so anti-MJ didn't help. Trudeau winning definitely helped kick me into gear, and of course finding Crop King Seeds so I knew we were growing decent genetics.

We've waited a little longer on the autos, but I'm betting their tops don't survive the night...

Damn, I love me some leafy porn. Looking good RTK.

I'm hooked, my journal and pictures are just about as important to me as the girls themselves. Just about.

I subbed in for this ride, if'n ya don't mind. Interested in the DD and autos in general. Trying to see what the pros and cons are. Ive only ever grown photo gals.

Welcome Lazarus13, there's still plenty of seats left. And, I haven't done anything really stupid in a while, so the chances are increasing every day.

We have our first photo in this grow, the other 9 (6 in the first grow, nearing harvest) have been autos. The big pro is you can give them so much more light than a photo can get, as some portion of the usual 12 hours of darkness can be used for photosynthesis instead. Con is of course that you don't (usually) get to control when they finish vegging. That being said, if you look at Britney, an Early Miss auto in our first grow, it's clear she stayed in veg longer due to the stress of her accident. I find that wildly interesting.

I've said it before about a month ago, and I still feel that we'll always have an auto or two going along with our future photos. This grow was supposed to be half and half, but we just couldn't get a White Widow to germinate in time.

Jan 12 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 13 days old. DD is 2 day old. WW-ish lost her one cotelydon cause Jaybiz is 'spearamenting. Temp is 77 and RH is 78%

Top of the morning to you all. I'm tip top, on top of the world... Why all the top talk? Guess who doesn't have a top anymore? Both our autos.

Family Pic:

Here's Jack's top, we forgot a before pic:

After:

New Early Miss, before:

After:

Dark Devil, we held off on topping her for now, feels just a bit early:

At this point, Jaybiz's old camera started grinding gears trying to focus, hopefully we can keep it running until my new camera shows up, but it's not looking good. Sorry for the blurry shots that follow.

Crown Royale, :

Definitely a fim on the CR, crazy growth happening in there. Can't wait to see what ends up happening with it.

Arteekay, thanks for showing those photos of how you top. Ive been trying to understand exactly how it works. you are very thorough. Plants are looking good as always.

This was our first time doing an actual topping, Britney's accident in the first grow doesn't count. The photo got her top pinched off, she was so young and fragile we couldn't put any pressure on her. The other two were done the way you read about, push the top over to one side then the other until it snaps off. Much better than the pinch as you can see in the pictures. But I'm leaving the crazy top on the photo for now to see what it'll do.

Looking like a solid start for the girls RTK!! I also like how you documented the Topping procedure. What kind of camera did you order? I have been using my cell phone for the pics but brought home my Sony A77 from work to try and get some higher quality ones for my journal

I haven't ordered one yet, my lovely daughter tells me she has a better one than I'm currently using, and I'm hoping she brings it over soon. I'll likely buy a higher end camera midyear, as I've caught the journalling bug baaaad. Not sure if I'll go SLR, I'm not prepared to start into another hobby yet. :)

Sorry Smokey but I took that one leaf off ww last night.. It was getting really dark and dried out. I'm hoping it will maybe create a new node but more than likely it's completely done.

I finished her off tonight, pulled the stick and it was nothing but an inch long single root. She was going nowhere.

Two down, and now will be waiting for our third grow. Dammit.

Jan 13 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 14 days old. DD is 3 days old. WW-ish is dead and gone. Temp is 76 and RH is 75%

The Crown Royale photoperiod girl was transplanted to her new two gallon home after we checked her roots in the solo cup. Looked pretty full but like an idiot I forgot to take a picture.

Both autos seems to have taken to their topping like champs. Overall I'm happy with how everyone is looking, but there are a few issues.

Family pic:

NEM, one cotyledon doesn't seem to have slowed her down at all:

CR, still can't having tons of trouble getting good pics of her:

Not sure, it's on both first leaves, will be watching closely to see if it progresses:

JH, has simliar discolorations that we saw on one or two in our first grow as well:

DD:

I'm thinking the discolorations are from the root hitting one of the branches and pieces of wood, bark, etc, that are in our medium. That's the theory I'm running with for now, any other opinions more than welcome.

You have a DD too? Its like a conspiracy to get some DD seeds! I give in. When I am finished with this harvest and the veg room clears out there will be a place for a couple DD autos. Damn all of you for ganging up on me!

All the cool kids are doing it! Btw if you make fun of the DD, rtk will cut you :yikes::blalol:

My seed grow had a few leaves that looked like that. It grew through it just fine. All looks well. I found some dark devil auto seeds local. I'm thinking of getting them this weekend.

Yeah, our first set had one or two with the same look, at the same age. I'm not going to worry about it, but I do find it curious.

I'm ridiculously excited about my Dark Devil, and I'm not sure exactly why. I look forward to seeing yours once ya get 'er going.

I jumped on the bandwagon before Christmas, hoping for great things out of her.
