Arteekay's Second Grow - Autos & Feminized - Mixed Strains

.......Yours looks much fuller than mine. I was waiting to see your newest update in the community grow and was surprised with how early mine turned purple by comparison. You're going to yield significantly better than us I think. Just hope you get to enjoy her colors soon!

:)

It's the nature of dwc. Take something that should grow x number of days and yield y, and make it grow x times 3 to yield y + 2....holy smokes izzat algebra ? :biglaugh:

Feb 15 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 47 days old. DD is 36 days old.

CR is on 16/8, Temp is 78 and RH is 40% at the canopy, 74 and 40% at the top. Overnight is 69 and 43%.

Temp for JH, NEM and DD peaked at 89 today with RH at 31% during lights on, and 69 and 43% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

  • CR was soaked with 8 liters of full strength DNF Gro A+B and calmag+ at 985ppm and 5.8 PH
  • DD was soaked with 6 liters of 75% strength DNF Bloom A+B and full strength calmag+ at 856ppm and 5.8 PH

Jaybiz continues dropping his Crown Royale by 2 hours a day. They are all going to have their night time during our day, with the 12/12 being lights out from 4am until 4pm. Once Britney gets out of the other tent I'll move the other three's nighttime to 10am to 4pm. Right now their night coincides with ours, specifically 10pm to 4am.

The goal here is to get it so they are fed and watered in their early morning rather than just before bed. They'll be more awake for picture time, and will have at least 9 hours to use the new water before light's out, assuming we "process" them every night around the same time we've done with them so far. We'll have to be very careful to not have any water sitting on the leaves when they go back into the tent for their day.

I also feel a little better about the light's being off while we're not around.

Family pics:

I love when DD is in the middle. :)

CR (14.4 lbs down from 16.4 yesterday, 32.2 lbs after watering) Jaybiz also top dressed this girl as he was flirting with the top of the drainage holes:

NEM (17.8 lbs, down from 19.8 after watering yesterday):

DD (7.0 lbs down from 8.4 yesterday, 20.0 lbs after watering):

JH (17.6 lbs, down from 20.4 after watering yesterday):

Direct from the tent:

Compare against yesterday's pic where she was desperate for water:

After she got lollipopped and moved around a bit more:

Back in the tent:

What a difference in the thirsty vs hydrated.
I was trying to show the wife. She pretended to be interested in the JH, while staring at the DD.

I chose the wrong strain, if I want her support on me growing. Damn you DD!

Thanks rtk, any predictions on harvest dates? Also, interested in people's drying/curing methods. (I'm getting ahead of myself, I know, can't help it)

It's one thing to see pictures of it, but in person I swear you can feel her suffering just by touch. Watching them reinflate is awesome though, worth doing just for the experience. Keep her in your peripheral vision and you'll see your plant move around quite a bit as leaves pop out from under a small catch.

I feel it's a healthy stress for them too if not excessive and prolonged. JH was maybe half her 18 hour day totally dry. Personally would only do it hard later in veg or very early flowering though, once they're stacking flowers I want nothing to interrupt that process.

HA! I know the feeling! I have to leave her in the tent and do her last or I get distracted and forget to weigh and take pictures of the rest.

It's so dark purple it's nearly black under our house lighting, zombie weed!

Doesn't matter a lick about strain, yield or appearance, there is just nothing like smoking your own weed. From my experience at least.

Since we smoked our first joint of Droopy back three or four Thursday's ago, we haven't smoked anything but our own. We break out laughing about how good it is. I haven't been this high for this many hours a day for this many days in a row since I started smoking hash in Junior High, a couple three or so decades ago.

Now having said that, get yerself some DD. If it makes the wife happy it's worth it at twice the price. :)

I'd guess another 35-40 days on the DD, she's supposed to be a 65 days strain and by my eye she looks like she'd be close to that. So it'll start in the end of March with her, then likely NEM, followed by JH and CR later in mid to late April. CR may even make it into early May.

Here's where we started our journey into discovering our drying space:

Arteekay's 1st Grow - Sunshine #4 - Spider x 4 - Crop King Autoflowering Mix Strains

The post following this one is of the first harvest of my first grow. I'll remember her for the rest of my life...

A few pages and another harvest later we ended up here:

Arteekay's 1st Grow - Sunshine #4 - Spider x 4 - Crop King Autoflowering Mix Strains

Very happy with the results we've gotten out of this setup. Thanks once again go to Shigs.

While finding and recording these posts for my own favorites as well, I of course stumbled across the last family pic of our first grow with all six plants still alive.

Man do i miss this view. I could stare at it for literally hours. We'll never grow this many plants with so little training again, so I'll never see this again either.

Great line about being in the middle. Ha, love the garden. About smoking your own grow your right.

Cheers

I would love that view too! Wow, that was a nice set for sure.
:bravo:

Thanks for the info rtk. I need to make a point in reading your other journal, in its entirety.

If my math is right, mid April will be 78 days(11 weeks).
I thought seed to harvest was estimated 9 weeks for JH auto. My calculations give mid April another 15 days.
Excuse my ignorance, miscalculations. For the record, I didn't get the polynomial joke, so...

My question, are you flowering longer because you prefer more ambered trichoms?

One more comment I thought I would share.
A few years ago I had laboriously convinced my wife to shop for produce locally and organically. She was under the impression, as many are, that organics are a hype.
Once convinced, by comparison sampling, I took it to the next level by growing a few vegetables organically. She was apprehensive about the possibility of my veggies being tastier than "the expert" commercial farmers.
Once again, raw taste test... She is whole heartily convinced now, and when at all possible we eat organic, small, local farming only.

Now, years later, I am having the same exact debate about growing my own mj.

I am eagerly awaiting THIS taste test!

About smoking your own grow your right.

Nothing like it, no question in my mind.

The last of our first grow was hung to dry today. It's a bit bittersweet...

It's just about done, but man is it a loooong read now.

Crop King lists flowering times for all their strains, but it's the same info for autos as photoperiods, so you have to assume they don't include veg times. In other words, they say their JH auto will flower for about 9 weeks, but they don't say it'll still have to veg for three or four weeks first.

We'd planned our first harvest to complete starting before Christmas and ending just after New Years based on the breeders suggested "harvest" times, only later figuring out it'd actually be mid to late January.

Brit was unique, as she stayed in veg for an extra three weeks before flowering, without being stunted as I think everyone expected. But we were saying last night that none of our harvests have been couchlocking, so it didn't matter if Brit was a little more amber than the rest.

(it was a baaaad joke anyway, don't waste a second on it) :)

I'll admit I'm not 100% convinced. I completely agree that commercial growers aren't in it for the same things I am. They want to maximize yield and presentation, I want good yield and appearance of course, but never at the expense of quality.

I'm open to being converted though, Shigs has put in some time working me over already. :)

Feb 16 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 48 days old. DD is 37 days old.

CR is on 14/10, Temp is 72 and RH is 54% at the canopy, 70 and 58% at the top. Overnight is 69 and we don't know what the humidity will be like, higher than yesterday for sure.

Temp for JH, NEM and DD peaked at 90 today with RH at 37% during lights on, and 69 and 46% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

Since nobody here needed anything, we decided to add the cool mist (evaporative) humidifier back into the veg tent, then harvest and hang Britney above Jaybiz's Crown Royale.

I've lowered the light in the auto tent to the same height as the other now that Brit isn't taking up one side, but this weekend I want to hang them front to back instead of side by side. I don't want to have to slide plants out between each other, the other way I can lift them widthwise instead.

Otherwise, just a picture and weight day for this grow.

CR (28 lbs, down from 32.2 after watering yesterday):

String is terrible, barely holding her back:

Biz did some more tucking...

NEM (11.2, down from 17.8 yesterday) most water used in a day for any of these girls:

JH (11.2, down from 17.6 yesterday) Just behind NEM above in water usage, but within the margin of error on our scale:

Took what might be the last real opportunity to move her around before she gets too stiff:

DD (16.8 lbs, down from 20.0 yesterday):

Back in the tent in their new (but temporary) configuration:

Took the picture before I realized Britney wouldn't need our oscillating fan up on a bucket anymore. Sniff...

Dark devil is still my favorite. Plant's are doing quite well. Rock on rtk

Cheers

No worries Fopho. One of the best parts of them is they have built in points to hook training wires into, or a simple piece of string can be tied around between the fingers to provide another tie-off point. I gotta find a curved needle to get something lower on the fabric pots, right now I'm mostly clipping to the top or wedging a bent paperclip into the seams

Get a suture kit, or a first aid kit that has some sutures in it

Don't tell the others, but she's my favorite too. :)

Awesome plants man. Are they all scrog?

Only the Crown Royale photo is in a SCRoG (SCReen Of Green), the rest are just topped and tied. I now see the advantages of both approaches in the early stages at least. We'll likely have more informed opinions once this grow gets well into flowering.

I'll keep that in mind for next time. They're kinda passed much more manipulation, IMHO at least.

Rtk if you just take a pencil or other pokey tool make a hole anywhere on the fabric pot. Put coated wire through and bend it then bend it around the plant. Very easy no curved needle needed.

hehehe, hehehe, you said pokey tool. I'm sure I can find something around here to do it up.

Thanks, as always, for your help brother.

They're looking great, I especially luv the way ur training the jack herer and of course the dark devils look amazing can't wait to try that one
:Namaste:
:volcano-smiley:

I'm happier with how the Early Miss turned out for training, Jack got topped twice and without enough thought into how she's look three weeks later.

But I'm overall much happier with all of them than the girls from our first grow that were basically untrained for the first 5 weeks.

Your girls are looking great , I think the DD looks stunning , i hope she smokes as good as she looks ,
I will be ordering some DD with my next order .
Be safe .

She'd better. It's nice that she's pretty and "unique", but if she doesn't smoke well I'll have three seeds to give away.

Quick question

You took a pic of CR's lower level. I saw the short little branches sticking out. Are those what's left when you remove fan leaves?

Yup, I like to leave a good inch on the branch for two reasons. The first is Urban Remo's suggestion to do it so that if an infection does get in, you still have another chance to cut it off before it infects the whole plant. If you cut it flush and it gets infected it's already in the heart of the branch.

The second is so that there's something to stop an LST tie from slipping beyond that point.

Again and as usual, this is pretty much all my barely experienced opinions only...

Gotta get my posts done before the site outage tonight or I'm going to have to wait for it to come back up, before I go to sleep. Erg!

Huge :thanks: to all that continue to read my text dumps.

The more and more I look through and see DD the more excited I get that I have seeds on the way will love watching this journal and waiting to start my next grow with them :thumb:
