Arctic Bowl's 1st Ever Attempt At A Grow Journal

Welcome Stoner to our little corner of the mag and thanks for stopping by. :-)

Didn't get a chance to get much grow room work this weekend, Ms J and I did some canning, bread and butter pickles, garlic dills and 23 pounds of sour kraut in the crock and lots more pickles to go

The Lilly's are doing well in the flower tent but they sure do stretch. 4 of the 6 are showing Buds very well but, the last two are still not showing Buds??? Been 3 weeks in 12/12 now and not sure what to do with the two slow ones........been thinking of dropping the lights by 15 min every few days until it's 11/13 to see if that's what these last two are looking for or not. If they don't get there shit together in a week or so I'm gonna chop them and gettem out of the way.......sucks but not sure they are worth the space if they don't produce soon.

We got the recharge and cat drench done on the 4 Lilly's that are leading the way and a GE/Tea for the 2 slow pokes. The 4 lead girls are already producing some snow on them so the cat drench should throw them into overdrive.

I think we figured out the slow pokes issue, pretty sure it's not enough light directly over them. The reason I say this is I SC the lead kola and bent it more to the center of the lights like 5 days ago and the Buds are showing on that steam now. Not saying 100% that is the issue but sure points to that being the problem. We are hoping that HLG hurries up and gets lights back in stock so we can get this two room grow thing going!! We might have to put one of the old lights back in the flower tent to get these last two Lilly's doing there thing.

Didn't take any pics of the veg girls because they were pissed off at me because they went an extra day without a drink and were pretty dropy and sad looking but sure they are getting happy now. Kinda felt bad but we had to fly out of town for the day yesterday and it was a 23 hr day for us so they took a back seat until this morning.

Look at those 2 slow poke girls! All these were planted and flipped at the same time and they were really confusing my rookie ass as to what the hell I was doing wrong.......well we are pretty positive that it is lack of light so we will report back in a few days once we put another light over them, wish us luck

Fight night so off to get things ready, ordered in some Porterhouse steaks from the east cost for us, 50 day dry aged and 2 inches thick. These are the best steaks we have ever had and they are soooooo tender! Much love to you guys :-)

Just ordered our mini split for the grow room. Got a call from a buddy from one of the vendors we use and they had a scratch/dent unit at a steal so we couldn't turn it down. Probably won't start hooking it up until early next spring but at least it's on its way north. Two ton unit with a wall hung evap (24,000 btu)

Now we just need HLG to get there stock in so we can finish up lighting up the flower room. Not sure if they are having issues getting stock or if they are updating/upgrading lights but we hope they get things moving pretty soon so we can get our plan in action. Very happy with the two lights we purchased so far but need 4-6 More  ya, then 4-6 more after that lol.

Did a little trimming on the Lilly's today and got a few photos. They seem to be doing pretty good ( the 4 that are budding good) and the 2 slow pokes are starting to get with the program but they sure are not in a hurry. Guess they are on there own schedule and we're just along for the ride

Here is one of the Lilly's that's turning out some Buds after we snipped some of her fans off, they have a nice sugar frosting on them and we're guessing another 4 weeks or so before they are ready to come down. She's about a 5 footer and hope she fills in nicely.

Here's one with the pokey girls up front, they are doing better since we added a light right over the top of them so we will see what happens with these 2. If they keep at this pace they might be ready by Christmas.........next year

Hope you all had a great weekend and Labor Day for those that it applies:-)

Been pretty crazy busy but grabbed a few pics of the Lilly's, they are some frosty girls and are doing pretty well. Lights are a bit to close to them but they are tuffing it out the best they can. Soon we're hoping to get out of the tent and have a room and be able to move the lights up like 2 more feet if needed.......lol, which I'm thinking we will need for the next round of girls, Malawi will be part of the next run and either a few more Lilly's or a few more green crack.

Looks frosty up in here, hows those Q boards treating you?

We're liking them, got two of the 260's and just got the 550 in last week but it's not up yet, holding off on putting the 550 up until we pull the 4x8 tent down and make the room it's in into the flower room. Want to get a few more of them but, they seem to sell out as fast as they get them in at least the single thru triple lights. The 550 seems to be in stock most the time and we picked it up on sale 20% off so that's why we grabbed it. In the tent the lights are a bit close to the girls but they are as high as I can get them for now. Once the tent is out we should gain like 2 more feet if needed.

HLG is where we had purchased from, you know any other sources penny?

They can give you a rough estimate of when the next shipment is coming in. Then they give a heads up on the website as to when they are going to drop new kits. Ive heard the company is 2 people and they box up the kits themselves so thats why it takes so long to wait on these kits.

Great lights and I could see them needing much larger quantities in the near future and maybe some more help. I like the boards and the multiple sources of photons approach, not a lighting guru but made good sense to me on how they explained them. More lights for us in the near future we hope, would like to try a few things out with these boards, maybe look for a heavey blue spectrum for the veg tent.....heard blue helps in root development so would love to test that out and also a red spectrum for flower but want the red to be on for 1st and last hours of lighting to try an simulate sun rise and sun set. Just thoughts and I'm not sure it's all true or just hog wash but it would be fun to test it out and see if it's a help or not.

I think varying the light spectrum throughout the day is similar to letting pH drift and nute solution temps glide. Can plants thrive without it sure. But by adding subtle variances we can more closely recreate nature; just better haha.
I think warming the color temp up at sun up n sun set is a great idea. I also like the idea of increasing the intensity and cooling the color temp in the middle to mimic high noon. Far red initiators are shown to help seems like a logical step.

Just a few things I'd like to try to see if it's a solid plan or not, I'm guessing it should help but.....lol. The QB's are doing a fine job for sure, I just need more height for the lights, or shorter plants  once we convert the entire room to flower we shouldn't have too many issues of the lights not being high enough. Some of the leaves are a bit "sun burnt" but they are hanging in there for us, just a bit over a week to go so we are keeping our fingers crossed they keep chugging along for us.
