Arctic Bowl's 1st Ever Attempt At A Grow Journal

Man the variety outdoor and indo! Lol I would give it a try for sure if it's not too involved. Has to be some strains that do good up there. You may need to make a hoop house or greenhouse. I have friends that make them out of dog kennels and another that uses livestock fencing bent like an arch. Both wrap with opaque poly sheeting. I would recommend a northern strain. A strain that can handle a little cold. Or a strain that finishes early before the cold. The frisian duck is top of my list. Duck is super easy to grow and the frisian dew it is crossed with is dutch passions best outdoor coldweather strain. The duck makes it more lokey for veg too. Then again maybe you should be growing the Alaskan Thunderf@ck :) find some local growers and pick their brains on strains and techniques for growing out doors. But for sure I'd give it a try in a legal state. Hard to beat sunshine imho

Arctic I've heard ATF is like mullumbimby madness in that it's arguably a strain and not a strain. Some say any good weed out of Matanuska back in the day was called Alaskan thundef@ck. Then there are always those who say it was actually a strain and then the name got stolen and spread around. There is a good read about it on $@@dfinder if you google it. What is your take, is it a real strain? The pic I remember seeing as a kid was one in the valley with what looked like only single blade leaves. Anyway you can find ATF seeds I just wonder if they are the real deal or if there ever was a real strain.

Df from what remember it was a strain all of its own but that was the early 80's when I got up here and that was a few years ago :-) and my memory isn't what it use to be. I also remember it being called " Tundra F*#k" maybe AK gramma can comment on this as well or maybe have a lead on some clones lol, I'd love to get my hands on those lol.

Well if you ever try outdoor I know tangerine might work at your location. It's an offshoot of ATF and harvests really early. Also having great luck using the flower initiator outdoor to speed up the harvest before winter hits. Not sure if it will work in AK but I would think so with the right strain. Before our diesel would harvest in early November but w the 730nm going it looks as though we will be a few weeks earlier this year. Just a thought. Icemud is doing an indoor grow with a similar light using 730 nm now too. Can I ask what latitude you are?

Hi

How can I not fly by here ?? You and your wife are on my thinking about you list :)
How is everything growing? Is it getting colder up there now? Sending warm hugs for the 2 of you :)

Hey Df thanks for the tips!!! We're new new new to the grow thing so we will have to look into it for next year. We are right around the 64th, still south of the Arctic circle ( about an hours drive) my biggest fear up this way with outdoor grows is MOLD. We get so much rain, we do have 22 plus hours of daylight but, not having a way to tone the humidity down gets me gun shy. This year the Affids kicked our ass in our green house grow, we had such beautiful plants going early on, veggie type plants not meds. Then the Affids decided to have a orgy in our green house and decimated pretty much everything. Our zukine an squash the last few years have molded really bad so a nice sweet bud I'm sure would do the same.

Hello Birdie!!! It's so kind of you to come by, we both really do appreciate you coming by. Things are going pretty well thank you, Ms was busy today and over did things so she is having some pain. We used the canna cream on her hand and arm and it truely helps her. We have been so blessed to get everyone's help here we could never repay it!!! Yes it's getting a bit cold now, we are getting ready for winter and snow is just around the corner ( dear God why do we still live here lol). My beautiful wife spent all day smoking pork ribs, chicken, beef, and she makes this awesome smoked Mac n cheese. We had some friends over for a last horas cook out sort of thing and ate like royalty in front of a nice fire to keep us warm. Wish our guests were bud friendly but that wasn't the case so....... Off to smoke a nice big bowl lol

I can't help you on what strain we grew in the 70's, cause I wasn't into that stuff back then. Just the hubby. Now 40 years later, the old gramma is growing clean stuff for her family, so they don't get bad stuff. Quite a different life now that we are legal. Next month the first dispensary is supposed to open. Maybe we can get our seeds locally soon! I will like that!

Now, where i live, it has to be concealed. Too many nosy neighbors. Funny thing tho, there are so many old folks growing in their spare bedrooms and basements, that on a windy day you get a whiff of dank or incense, like in the 70's.

I posted pic, if u are interested. The Mars LEDs made a huge difference in the quality of the grow.

Hello all, it's been a bit since we uploaded photos so here are some from tonight. For what ever reason on our iPad we can only do one photo at a time. We can select a bunch but once you submit them only one shows up so we just do one at a time. If anyone can steer us in another direction that would be super cool.

Here is our Train Wreck Auto that we topped, love all the buds but she may be in need of some trimming, were chicken to just start wacking off leaves so we didn't lol.

This is our Train Wreck Auto we didn't top ( we did break one branch when we tried to tie her up though lol) she seems to be furthest along of all the autos.

Here are a couple shots of the photoperiod girls. They for sure are much larger plants and have at least 4-5 more weeks to go. We are getting some leaf yellowing mostly on the purple kush. Of course we thought she was getting less picky once she got in the big tent lol she showed us who's boss. The green crack seem to just do there thing and are not much trouble.
