Another Brix In The Wall: Sweet Pink Stink & Coked Out Girl Scout

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Thanks Shiggs! I'm wondering how far down I should trim the tops? Will the plant split where I cut them?

All 4 in #10's got 3ml of trans plus small plop of tea each in 2 gallons of water.

Some pics of their underparts and the clones.

High Ween.
Your yard is looking green and the veg growth is prodigious.
Keep it green Ween.
Stage out

Looking like a freaking pro over here ween! Your plants are beautiful my friend. Should be very exciting.

When it comes to the drenches, duggan got me in the habit of drench, trans water, plain RO, repeat. I think there are guys that use TransWater with every water, including the drench. But all of the results are the same, quality bud. I'm hoping to get a better feel as I grow the next coming year. I feel like a robot when I go in that grow space. I want to be like these guys that can know exactly what is needed every time.

You're doing awesome bro

Cheers

Thanks Doc!

Ween they are in alternating branch mode so they won't split when you top them. Try to take a shot of each plant that contains the whole plant from the side. That way we can all give advice. Include height and max height of hanging light if possible. That info is key!

Below are the best pics I could get without moving them out of the tent which would have been tough with my gimpy arm. Their heights range from 20"-24" from the soil so add 12" for the pots and they're about 3' from the floor. The tent is 6' and I imagine the Goliath will need about 6-8".

Thanks noob! Quality bud is certainly what we're shooting for. :passitleft:

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Ok, thanks Shiggity! I'm a little scared about doing this. I'm new so it seems counterproductive and I guess I don't fully understand why I'm doing it. Do I just measure 6-8" down from the top of each top and chop? Then once I see new growth coming out of where I chopped, flip?

Don't forget that I'll be taking all of the small plants 5 in #1's and 1 in a #10, leaving those 3 big ladies.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

If you are taking out plants then you may not need to trim. I was thinking that what you showed was the final density before flowering. If that is so you will have some side to side wiggle room.

So back to the question of why. In the first 3ish weeks of flower your plants go through the stretch right? If they are already crowded then the plant senses that. The plant says uh-oh...if I want to catch pollen to make seeds and if I want to get the best sunlight to make energy I must stretch farther than my sister plants. So it kicks the stretch response into hyperdrive. More stretch means tall lanky plants and no light penetration to the bottom. It also means the plant must spend more energy to push nutes up the stem against gravity. It also puts the tops up higher in the room where heat is more of an issue. In our grow rooms each foot is quite a bit different heat wise.

But in your case if you have side to side room after taking other plants out you may be fine.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Buds should be dry in the next day or two so will move the smaller plants to the other tent and will post pics. Making a little room will make it possible to do some LST to bring em down and open em up, maybe that'll be enough. Should I try that?

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Ween, remember that the highest top on a plant will always get the most growth hormone. It can be less than an inch difference and the plant will know it. So you can use that as a measure to shape the plant. Lower the tops and pull the laggards up. And don't be afraid to lop an aggressive top off. As long as it's still vegging, it'll react quickly with new growth.

:Namaste:

[Edit] I've described training in veg this way before: The plant is going to grow a given cubic mass of branches and foliage in a given amount of soil. We can shape that mass. Instead of a pine tree shape, we can force a level top and we can narrow the canopy to suit our lighting penetration. Growth does slow because the plant has to adapt so frequently, but at this stage it's in such vigorous growth that not much phases it. In the end we get a more productive plant. That's cultivation. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I love this whole post. You have a way with words GT.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

I ordered some of that green tape. So I moved my 4X4X6 tent inside, the massive carbon filter plus the fan which I mounted right on the filter are taking up a lot of space.

Please pardon the purple pictures people.

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

OK so BIG or should I say GOLIATH news to share!? I received my Perfect Sun Goliath today and after the shock wore off, I got to planning on how to get this monster hung. My tent would likely collapse under the weight, it's already carrying a massive can carbon filter plus fan so couldn't add 57 lbs to it. I got some fairly heavy duty hooks and screwed them into studs right above the tent, I cut little holes in the tent and threaded the rope from a couple ratchet hangars through, with my injured arm I maneuvered the light into the tent and on top of a 5 gallon bucket with a flannel on top, then hooked up the provided hanging wires/carabiners doubling them up and raised the light with the ratchets, then added the additional wires/carabiners hooked the the top outside of the tent frame as a backup. Goliath is 24 inches above the plants which I need to train and or chop before I flip or I'll be in trouble quickly as there is not much room to raise the light, maybe 12-18 inches...? Will need to figure out how to shorten the wires when I need to raise it.

Anyhow, on to some pics!

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

Hey Ween, holy crap brotha, that thing is big,...me like! OK, IMO, you should get that up as high as possible right now, so ya don't have to do it later. The footprint will be much better with it too ....being up higher Ween. By the sounds of your space up top,...it will be soon time to bloom.....soon! Just a couple thoughts bud. Cheers eh!:high-five:

re: Another Brix In The Wall - Sweet Pink Stink & Girl Scout

That makes perfect sense Duggan! Thoughts on how to shorten up the wires? I could not raise it much without shortening them. Thinking maybe I should thread them through the brass holders, wrap twice and connect with the carabiners....?

Do you have any little chain? Like "jack chain?

No but I was able to get them pretty high. I threaded the wire through (doubled up) and connected with 3 carabiners. I then reconnected 2 doubled up wires on opposite corners to the top frame of the tent as a backup. Will get some chain so I can try to get it even higher. There is about 3 feet between light and plants. I can bring the plants down 8-12" with some training. Will do that tomorrow.
