Tricky one that mate my light started life as one of those warehouse lights

My ballast is built into the left side of the above light. I seen (hps/mh) printed on some internal components when I opened it up to make it 2 part ballast + light to reduce heat in the room.
I don't have any info or model number to google.
I may just chance a metal halide bulb and if it pops then buy a metal halide conversion bulb lol

Yeah, general consensus is it's "ok" but still not convinced lol. Been watching the shite footy tonight lol :)

I'm unsure of what risk I could be taking.... Basically hps need a big bolt of electric to get started so there be a built in starter. Possible risk I'd guess be the surge of electricity blowing my mh bulb......
If that's the only real risk I'm happy to give it a go
If someone said it increases risk of fire for instance I wouldn't do it
 
If I turn my MH off I have to let it cool before starting it up again. The HPS bang straight in with a MASSIVE inductive load.....would hate to shower the girls in glass :(
 
Sooo wish I could aid on this one chap. But yeah girls out for the firing up me thinks! Wish I could just pop over with my unused balast lol
 
If I turn it off and back on again within a few minutes I simply won't light up. First time I tried it I thought I'd blown a fuse or tripped a switch. After 2 new fuses and LOADS of panicing, it came back on lol. Basically, if I switch off I know it'll be 5 mins before it will com back on :)
 
On one way of looking at it. Is as it was taken from a commercial usage then it was made (dumb ass proof) most probably so I reckon you will be fine.
 
Oz dont do it lol any of the hps or mh should not be re fired until bulb has cooled. Same as not touching them and leaving oils on em etc. If I have to turn mine off they stay that way for at least half hour before I light up again.

Here's a thought if mh doesn't require a starter...... Why does it need a ballast?
Iv just seen a 400watt mh bulb on flee bay. Claiming its self ballasted? A 400 watt self ballasted bulb never seen that before
Not in mh/hps
 
Fleabay.....gotta love it. No shitting here, a guy I know bought "100 disposable cigarette lighters" for £6........he received 2 boxes of matches. :thedoubletake::laughtwo:

I searched it and found "175-400 watt self ballast MH multiple use lights"
