Alafornia's 1st Time Multistrain Medical Grow

Thanks Al. I knew your answer would be interesting. For a guy who doesn’t partake you sure know your way around this sweet herb.

@Optimus913 is growing a high thcv strain here..

Thanks, Double D.

Good evening, everyone!

Mixed day today. Kid refused to go to the dentist. I'm afraid he's going to regret it later but the staff was very understanding when I called hoping they could find someone to fill his slot. Still not taking his medicine like he should. We had an IEP (individualized education plan) meeting at school today. It's where we discuss everything that can help him achieve the goals that have been set. To know what one is like, tell your ex-spouse your problems while getting kicked in the balls by Santa's reindeer. IOW, there's real problems that sometimes aren't heard. It's a painful experience and you will encounter things that don't really exist, except on paper. That said, he has a good team there - the best we've had in 20+ kid-years of dealing with these things. They actually understand autism and seek to know more, they are caring and enthusiastically try to understand what is behind and driving his issues and seek ways to help make the problems better and do so in a professional and knowledgeable manner. They not only know how to write a plan but how to implement it as well. Not perfect, but as said the best we've experienced through many years. They are supportive of my son's use of cannabis and have noted often how much it helps him when he takes it.

I got a picture from my chair:

I also got my macro lens today. Enjoy!

Miss a couple of days and your 4 pages behind!

Looking great, some darn good information was dropped in those lines!

Happy growing!

That’s unfortunate about the dentist Mr. A!

Good that your son has such a great team behind him at school. It almost sounded like you were frustrated with them for some reason.

You have some GREAT photos with the macro!

I see your getting the hang of it!! :thumb:

Always good to see you, Canuckush. Thanks.

Yeah, the pain will come back but he's mad at Dad right now.

I'm genuinely thankful for this team. It's always a work in progress, but we have forged a great working relationship over the past year. If everyone we had worked with over the years had been this professionally competent I would not have quite the same view of IEP meetings or of the educational system. Unfortunately, they have been the exception so the frustration you sense has come from years of working with subpar efforts. At times these meetings have been beyond contentious with threats of litigation, tears, raised voices, and so forth. I usually go home from one completely drained. This meeting was so productive and positive that my voice cracked and I fought back tears while thanking the team for their work. It goes beyond just the meeting to the past year of working together quite closely.

Thanks, backlipslide. This macro lens with the cell phone camera has a lot of potential for some awesome photos. I don't have a tripod so I was holding the phone myself. I'll hopefully get better at it but I'm impressed with the lens (which can also do wide angle photos). I picked it up for about $30 in the rainforest. It is made by Aukey and has some good reviews. Now Tangled wants one. :)

Along with the lens the scales (one kitchen, one precision), hygrometers, empty capsules, and capsule filling machine were delivered. We're going to run out of the tablets and no one has them in stock so I'm going to have to pick up oil or tincture and get some practice filling the capsules until we harvest.

My next step is deciding on which oil infusion machine to get. SweetSue and others have used an InstaPot and I see they have one now that gets pressure up to about 15 psi. They have been able to infuse and decarb together and that idea is appealing. The one I'm looking at adjusts for altitude, which is helpful to us.

A long, long time ago, I knew nothing about growing marijuana. I tried growing a great white shark seed. Didn’t know any better, and started a seedling with a 12/12 schedule. It lasted, well maybe two weeks, give or take. Very little growth, and the light schedule ultimately killed the plant.

My friend took it over for me, as we moved. Tried to save it by putting under the 18/6 schedule, but was too far gone. :rip:
I can almost assure you that plant didn't die because of 12/12. Sounds like it dampened off to me. I have had several seedlings do that over the years.....cannabis and non cannabis. In fact, I have two right now that are battling that seedling battle.

I have a Durban Poison that germinated on Aug 21st and it stalled for 3 weeks. It finally started throwing out new growth last week. I also have a Hiydrow that stalled for 2 weeks but seems to be pushing through. It doesn't happen often but it does occur.

Too bad. Don't know why it's recommended with this strain. Kinda weird.

What interests me with my crew are the anxiolytic effects. THCV can counter the anxiety THC can sometimes induce and can lower anxiety in general. For the recreational user lower doses of THCV will impede the high from THC due to antagonizing the receptor but in higher doses becomes an agonist and causes a very euphoric and energetic high. Durban poison has a high THCV content and it is thought some of the old Hawaiian strain do as well.

Research indicates THCV might be effective to control appetite and diabetes as well as having anti-inflammatory effects. Other research indicates it may be effective in treating epilepsy and parkinson disease.

In strains that produce THCV instead of forming CBGa, the precursor to THC, CBC, CBD, and CNBN, some molecules get changed to THCV while the rest follow the usual course of forming CBG and then being converted into other cannabinoids.

THCV is quick-hitting and quick leaving. The effects come on quickly but are gone in about half the time as THC is active.

The other thing that interests me is that uplifting quality without the crash once it's gone.
There area few breeders out there that are taking a look at trying to breed high THCV strains. Durban Poison is one of my favorites for the THCV in it. After the back injury, I packed on a bit of weight that I didnt like carrying around. Started incorporating the Durban Poison into our cannacapsules and both Ms Stank and I noticed a curbed appetite. I used the canna capsules in conjunction with smoking and working outdoors in the garden and dropped from 260 lbs down to 195 lbs.

Its one of the reasons Durban Poison will stay in my garden....I just want to find the keeper plant!

Looking beautiful in the garden here :) All the plants have great colour and vigour!

12/12 from seed is not an uncommon way to grow, some folks do it exclusively. It keeps electricity costs down and plants just run to their own schedule. It’s not going to be appropriate for all varieties of course, but I plan to do it for some landrace sativas so they don’t get too huge on me - that will be 11/13 from seed as that’s how I run my lights in flower, and they’d be alongside others that veg’d under longer lighting

I do something similar outside sometimes too — plant just a couple of weeks before the solstice and then the plants start flowering as soon as they’re mature, usually 3-5weeks, so it’s almost like 12/12 from seed outside. It gives me nice manageable sized plants.

It’s interesting that MMG recommend that for that particular strain - maybe it has equatorial ‘roots’ :D I’ve been waiting for their website to come back up, too, as I’ve been looking for some info on the Candida CD-1. Hopefully it won’t be long.

Great macro lens by the looks Ala!

Definitely being investigated for that and other uses. Interesting cannabinoid and plant. I have some DP. Only question is "when?"

Seems like the site has been down for a while. Not sure what's going on there.

Thanks. This is a 15x piece and has a wide angle attachment. I used the macro lens with the phone's camera features to experiment with some very magnified shots. Seems to be a good lens. Maybe I'll get better using it. :)

This is amazing!

I mean! It’s heart breaking the struggle you and your family have been through to get to this point.

There for, that concludes to why I say, this is amazing!

Having a great team around your boy may make all the difference in the world. With the help of your medicine.

There’s brighter days ahead!

It’s amazing that the group is also on board with the medicine as well!! :yahoo:

an InstaPot
We have one of those!

Although, I don’t think my wife would loan it to me for such practices. Lol it’s like her baby, that she never gave birth to.

Scares the crap out of me!

I wouldn’t go near it for a long while of owning it. I’ll actually push a button on it now, but I have no idea how to use it.. shh!

Thanks for the faith, enthusiasm, and encouragement. I'm pretty down right now because despite all of that he has withdrawn and gone far backward from our high point before summer break. On a positive note he has better controlled his temper. My hope is that together this team can get him headed in the right direction. He's like the bucking bronco that has to be broken. We've been here before, and even worse, but these times are hard.

The main purpose of the InstaPot would be to make InstaPot! :D

Got some pictures, including playing around with the macro lens. First, the group from where I sit.

FYI: Today is Day 26 of 12/12. I watered everyone. They shared 5 or 6 gallons. My bucket doesn't even list its size and I've never checked to be sure. I just know it was two buckets full and I watered to runoff.

All strength to you and the family Alafornia, and Tangled. You seem to do a good job of keeping faith with the processes and finding joy and happiness within all the hardship. Those things arent easy so well done hey :Namaste:

:laughtwo:

Have you been using the Tea yet?

Thanks, Amy.

I have not used the tea yet because 1 I want to see what my soil can do and 2 I'm stubborn and 3 I really haven't thought much about it with everything going on. What I may do is try it out next time or since I am running two White Russian plants try it on Westley so as to compare with Nikita especially since Westley (though resilient) has been the weaker plant. Gonna have to think on that.
