Alafornia's 1st Time Multistrain Medical Grow

I haven’t used one before but i have just made my first batch of cal-phos from eggshells - as per Emilya’s tutorial. You can either cook them first, for cal-phos or just grind the washed dried shells for a cal supplement. It’s done by fermenting the crushed shells in vinegar for a few weeks.

You can also buy a good quality cal-mg supplement and that would be fine to augment your soil if needed. I can’t advise which brand, I’ve never bought one. Calcium came from seaweed and rock dusts in my own soil grows. @InTheShed can probably recommend a good one.

TBH there should be plenty of all this in your super soil. I’ll have to go back and look at your recipe. BUt really, from memory there should be enough in there. If it were me, making some LABs is something I’d try first before supplementing cal-mag. Give your soil a chance to shine :)

Hope it’s ok if share a pic... this is my AK-47 “keeper”. I did let her go a week too long in the pot. I transplanted at about 4 weeks. From a 1 gallon pot to a 5 gallon pot. She just started showing deficiencies but looks great a week later.

Here’s the day after the transplant.

I will have to look at that tutorial. Now I have an excuse to cook some eggs. :D

ANd NICE! to have the RH up on such a dry day outside :thumb:Over 50% is where you ideally want it - so maybe think about keeping the wet towels in ther Ike Shed said - or maybe turn the extraction fan down some more...? :hmmmm:

Ugh, which is not a complaint about you saying what you said but what you said - that is to say thanks for the advice but I'm disappointed the humidifier isn't quite getting us there. Most of the time RH is hanging out about 45% in there. The humidifier itself read 50%+ at times but I was going by the accurite.

P.S. What's a good cal-mag and any other supplement good to have on hand for a soil grow? I don't want to feed nutes or anything at all if I can get away with it but want to have anything I might need on hand just in case or even if it should be a matter of course.
I use general organics CaMg+
But there are a lot of great options out there. I just happen to use this one.

(Edit) Liquid Karma is good to have on hand also. I use both of those with every watering. (Just about)
Till a week or 2 before harvest anyway.

Maybe the humidifier is right! :thumb:
Man its so much better than it was. ANd it’s consisent now too which is great!

OK - don’t mean to spam your thread... i went back and looking at the soil mix it might be a good idea to have some ca supplement on hand. The cal-phos from eggshells might be the best bet. There’s plenty of mg in your mix I think, and ca will come from the rock phosphate and the lime, but there’s no carbonated calcium source and that’s the good stuff. WHen I was researching and building my soil, and in many places since, I found that the ideal cal:mag ratio is 8-10:1. So having a cal supplement without extra mg might be good.

You haven't spammed at all. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

It can be overwhelming all the options and different advice, I remember. It still happens to me.

At this point I really just think, you built this great soil from a recipe that has had good results for others, and the plants just need some time to get friendly with the soil. You won’t know how it is until the roots are good and hooked up. Up the biota and give them some time. :Namaste:

Many of the best growers here actually aim to get their plants nice and root bound before up potting - and then they explode in to the new pot once transplanted.
Some plants handle this better than others, but I think you will agree that those gardeners going for nearly rootbound also put up with a few complaints on the lower fans while doing so. The poster asked what was going on with the leaf damage, and this was the answer. Is it as crisis? As you explained, no it is not. But, for some people, one leaf with signs of deficiency even in a couple of spots on the leaf margins, is too much, and a solution must be found. It is all a matter of growing style.

Please everyone carry on. I'm going to bed. I'll get caught up with you in the morning. Good night, everyone!

Aye, that wou' explain the ACcent, laddy.

Hey Al, whats up man the ladies are looking bushy. My seeds havent sprouted yet so I am planning on getting my tent set up tomorrow. I am considering changing my nutes. Any suggestions on something good yet not too pricey?

Good morning, BR. I know little to nothing about nutes. Hopefully someone who does can chime in with an answer.

Cant say ones better then the other but can say my plants did look better when I used them.

Thank you. I think I'm going to look at the eggshell recipe and go from there. I may get something similar to this at some point. Still learning.

I don't recall seeing that particular one before but there are several on the market. I mixed my own super soil and "cooked" it for 2 months before putting it to use. It's supposed to have everything they need from veg to flower. I don't know about any particular commercial product but IMHO nothing is better or more satisfying than making your own. I'll see if I can dig up the recipe I posted a few pages back.

Ah, yes, here it is. I did bookmark it for myself. You may need to consider adding the eggshells as this one is lacking just a bit.

I appreciate the compliments I've gotten on this grow, my first. I attribute the success to two things:

1. I studied the hell out of this before getting started. If you are considering growing cannabis then do your homework. I'm a busy guy and didn't know much about growing a tomato before I got started so it took me a few months to get a halfway decent grasp on medium, light, ventilation, flowering, harvest, etc;.. If you put the work in on the front end it is worth the effort. I still feel ill-prepared at times. I don't know how people who just decide to do it on a whim with no experience ever succeed. God bless 'em if it works for them.

2. 420 Magazine has the most helpful, kind, friendly, wonderful folks participating in these forums that you will find anywhere on or off line. You guys are always ready with answers to questions and sometimes you just see something and jump right in to offer advice. It is much appreciated and these plants would very likely not be alive without you. They would certainly not be thriving as they are. I'm not going to start naming names simply because I'll leave someone off. You also have been great with supporting me, not just the plants. I appreciate that as well - more than you know. Thank you all for being awesome you!

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Very well said sir!! Not only do you appreciate the help, we appreciate you for all of the sacrifices you make to better your family!! You sir! Are very respected!! :thumb:

I buy this stuff from peavey mart, it’s been treating me very well, pretty easy on the wallet as well. Three part system and I bought some extra cal mag to put into my repertoire

Beeen pretty easy with these nutes, I don’t have a pic of the cal mag I have but I hope this helps.

Greetings Al.
I'm all caught up. I give you props on not giving up on Westley. I have a couple girls that I've brought back from the brink of death as well. It's hard work, but strangely satisfying.

I'm using Mega Crop by Greenleaf nutrients. It's very economical and many members here use it to great effect. It is a one part system of powdered nutrients. You can get a free sample, but you have to pay shipping. So it's not 100% free... free enough. Lol.

Glad to hear that your kids are doing well and that you are grabbing those little moments of tranquility and enjoyment for yourself. Keeping oneself in a positive mental state is beneficial for all. Keep up the good work and fight the good fight!
