Akisunni Indoor Cold & Hot Grow Zones

An odd event today,

My order of 3 x 65 watt 2700 bulbs finally arrived, with 2 of them broken. I added the one working one to the grow mix. I went back and checked the lumes on each of the CFLs (now 4 bulbs in grow area).

2 x 105 watt 5500 with 5,000 lumes each
2 x 65 watt 2700 with 3,900 lumes each

For a total now of 340 watts and 17,800 lumes in a 16 sq ft area, with the lighting in really a 4 cubic feet area.. Its blindingly bright now. I noticed as I walked away from checking on the plants that I couldnt see very well. Its like the feeling you get when someone shines a bright flashlight, only its not one spot. My whole vision is duller.

I doubt I am going to add any more light in this space for now. Its so bright I need sunglasses in doors...

Photo Update of all three girls. I need to turn the images for the bud porn. The plants are happy. The two outdoor are doing really well considering its mid November. Worse case I bring them indoors, chop the bud off the one, and reveg both in 24/0

Semi Big Update

The giant cold air wave in North America finally hit my little piece of paradise. The forecast, while above freezing isnt much. I decided it was time to take drastic actions on my two plants outside in bud stage in buckets. I have built a quick DYI second flower space out of my cold veg space in the deep freezer. I will have to find a new home for the clones up in the top shelf.

I am still waiting on the 2 replacement x 65 watt 2700 flower CFLs from the last shipment of 3 that were broken in the mail. This means that the Veg space doesn't have any real 2700 red shifted spectrum. I grabbed the makeshift LED panel for getting some additional spectrum into the plants until the replacement bulbs arrive in the mail. The local Lowes is out of them, and have shifted their supplies to LED house bulbs.

The two plants are currently getting:

1 x 65 watts of 6500
2 x 23 watts of 6500
plus my DYI LED Red shift emergency lights.

Since the plants have been getting extra dark time of late, and this setup doesnt have any real 2700 range CFLs yet, I am going to alter the grow time here. I will be shifting the plants to 36/12 while in here. This lets me push as many lumens as I can into the plants per night shift until I get better control of the light and brightness of the veg space.

Quick Update,

Now that the two outdoor plants are safely inside and warm, here is a top down view of the plants as they are settling into their new home for the next few weeks.

Looks like plants are doing well. Looks like the big one is wet a lot. Foliar feeding? Foliar feeding can be quite good for plants in veg, but once flowering, the extra moisture could lead to mold issues inside the buds.

Good job growing, and I love the remote monitoring setup.

Thank you. They are wet due to me using a hand powered mister due to ultra low humidity. Its been as low as 20ish. So once a day or so I give the plant some moisture besides what it can tap. Now that I am in flower mode, should I stop misting it completely?

In high heat, the plant will draw up water from its root area, and sort of breathe it out of its leaves, through transpiration. Personally, I'd water it more frequently, instead of spraying the leaves, when it's budding, because of the possibility of mold. Sativas are often more tolerant of moisture than indicas, because indicas often have tighter bud structure that can hold moisture too easily.

Ok, thank you and I will follow your advice. I have grown up on a farm, and have three large garden beds in the back yard, but this is my first time growing the medicine instead of sourcing it.

The big plant is happy as hell. Its on a standard 12/12 pattern. It has a ton of small flower sites. It has really slowed down on its water needs now that local conditions are rainy.

The emergency (read abandoned but now useful deep freezer) is working great. I have it on an augmented 36/12 light pattern to help the two outdoor plants to restart growth after their cold/wet/dark November outdoor shock. I have to say the plant with two weeks of flower time has simply exploded with flower growth since the move indoors. Its almost caught up with the Big Girl for comparing bud to bud. I am pondering 36/12 for both flower spaces in January/Feb for the next grow cycle.

The increase in light time really seems to have an impact on the growth rate. I cant wait to try putting two clones from the same plant into a comparison grow off with 1 using 12/12 and the other 36/12. I might have to go buy a couple of $99 deep freezers and put one plant in each one. Same lights and CO2 but with different light patterns.

I have also dropped two beans (unknown) into some wet moss to see how they do in a 36/12 from seed pattern.

A quick update.

The big girl hasnt been thirsty since the double watering. Its still giving digital readings around 800 on a scale of 0 to 1023, higher is wetter. I give it watering when its around 300 for context.

Big Girl is starting to grow budlets everywhere. Its a beautiful process to watch. She is putting on enough lower growth, that I am going to try and save the plant after harvest and reveg her with 24/0 after harvest. It would be nice to see see her grow a second canopy again.

Clones:

I took three clones off her at the 2 week window. Of the three, only one has started to grow roots so far. Its been about 10 days. All three look healthy.

Seeds:

IMG_231215.JPG

I have dropped two bag seeds into some damp organic premium moss. At 3 days, one has a tap root going in the right direction about 1 inch long. The second one has cracked its shell. These will spend a week or two getting their roots started into a grow medium and then will be put into my "Emergency" Flower area. A converted freezer. This area is using a 36/12 grow cycle going forward.

These two seeds will be treated to that light cycle for their life. I do not expect to upsize them after the first real planting. I want to see how 36/12 treats seeds to harvest. I hope one of the seeds is a girl. They were found in a quality bud that appears to have gone Hermie, so its possible they are females... fingers crossed. :volcano-smiley:

After test tasting its first pop corn bud, I want to save this plant. Its a Maui Blue. Amazing creeper buzz. Its prob going to be my personal choice going forward, something I clone and grow in perpetual grow cycle to keep stocked. Its that Good.

Follow up to the above update.

I have put together a stealth grow space for clones and seeds. Its to replace the shelf in the deep freezer where I had planned to do this in a 24/0 veg lighting, however when I needed to convert it to a flower space, I realized I was screwed for a safe place for the small clones and seeds.

The new space is inside the house inside of my desk. I have a formal office setup with desk and credenza. In the credenza is a space prebuilt for a tower computer. Its 12 inches wide, 24 inches tall and 24 inches deep. Which makes it perfect for growing the little ones before they move to a flower space in the garage.

The space inside my desk... Even has space for mister.

My first successful clone, rumor is its a Blue Dream.

The clippings, two possible clones...
IMG_23397.JPG

I now have three spaces growing girls. One in my office for little ones, one in flower mode 12/12 and another one in flower mode in 36/12. The idea is that the ones in this new area will be prepped and added to the 36/12 space has its first harvest plant taken out of in about 2-3 weeks based on time estimates.

My perpetual grow with its necessary stages is coming along...

Nice idea with the desk. :goodjob: Be sure to protect the desk from humidity, though. I'm guessing the desk isn't cheap.

:Namaste:

AMK,

Yes Sir, I need to return to that topic. It is a former jungle hardwood, so it is used to water... cough cough...

In a prier life, I had more expensive tastes then I do today.

However, the buzz from the first popcorn I have grown here from the oldest flower plant (now around 50 days of flower) was so good, even counting toaster quick dry... I flashed back to when I was in Oahu in 1987ish fishing with locals at 3 am. I love a good maui wowwi sub strain. I spend really good money for stuff that isnt close to the worse bud this plant will generate.

I am most definitely going to get another clone of it from the local dispensary, I keep wanting to harvest this plant in a way to save it, but I also want max bud off this plant. Looking forward to being self sufficient for the first time ever. That's a small used sports car per year in saved cash... lol

Quick Clone/Seed Zone update.

The Clones and Seeds are all growing nicely. I am still waiting on the 2 X 65 watt 2700's to arrive in the mail, to upgrade the emergency (36/12 Flower) zone with. Once I do, that will free up the 2 x 23 watt 6500's in there for in here at the Stealth Grow zone for 24/0 clone/seed lighting needs.

I checked on the other two clippings. They have spouted mini roots. It appears that I am 3 for 3 in the clone to root process now. I also checked on the second bag seed, and it had a root now.

I moved both of the seeds to a moss lined grow container with organic potting soil below them. These will last them until they outgrow the new stealth desk grow zone.

Seed/Clone Zone:

3 X Blue Dream Clippings
2 X Mystery Bag Seed "Natural Hermi based Seeds"

Flower Zone:

1 x Blue Dream
1 X Maui Blue
1 x Stinkie Pinkie

I expect to move the Mystery Bag Seeds to the 36/12 zone at harvest time for the Maui Blue, which is about Dec 10 based on the excel sheet I have up and running now for every plant, every major event. I took the amazing 420 excel version, and augmented it a bit. It now tracks every plant by its root day, clipping/seed/purchase day, Veg days, in addition to its Flower days. Can track the full life cycle of a plant now.

I want to thank Mr Krips for giving us such an amazing tool...

This is a cool journal! Even if the higher tech stuff leaves me going :scratchinghead: ... lol. The low tech stuff though, like cloning in ziplock baggies and DIY CO2 boosters, is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing! I hope you won't mind me peaking in from time to time. ;)

I am excited to have you visit. Please drop in anytime and share a nugget or two of wisdom... While I spent years around gardens, this is oddly enough the first time I have decided to try my hand at growing them. I am a student here.
