AKGramma's Perpetual Grow

Honestly- I normally throw the pale ones out. It was just because I paid 50 bucks for those three from HSO that I figured I needed to try. They weren’t the super pale ones- just a light green colour and very small.
Normally if a seed doesn’t spread out in 48 hours in paper towel I figure it’s not gonna make it. However I did have one that I left in for a whole week and it sprouted after a week and was fine- so if it’s a costly or precious seed then it is worth trying.
I do prefer the ones that sprout in the first 24 hours.

Looks like I'm going to lose the last White Widow clone. She is living right along all my other plants, being fed and watered and treated for mites on the same schedule. But she is wilting, after 4 months of veg, and is only about 12" in height and width. The stress of mainlining her slowed her down a lot, and her stem never got any thicker. I just sprayed everybody down well with plain water, like a heavy rain, and will see if she perks up by tomorrow.

If she doesn't improve, I'll have to terminate her. Her leaves are not worth saving for herbs, either. :rip:

Sorry about your loss. :rip:

Never had much luck with the White Widow clones. Way too many generations behind them. I DID get a couple males from WW seeds, however, and was able to cross with the AK 47 x DP ladies.

Cool, what you going to name the cross?

I came up with this: the AK 47 x Durban Poison (x White Castle) cross can be named:
AK Durban Castle 47.
Can't think of anything else that describes it's lineage.

I like your choice of name, but I don't think they look primarily Durban. Sue said the original seeds were AK 47 x DP, so in my cross, the male ancestors are DP and WC and the female AK 47.

The White castle gave it really big leaves, more Indica than Sativa, and a rapid growth rate. The topmost leaves have 9 fingers.

The Afghani are pure Indica. The 7 fingers of the leaves overlap, they are so wide. These three are my first pure Indicas. So will be a nice change from the hybrids I've grown so far. I hope one of them is a male! :goodluck:

The only heavy Sativas I grew were mystery seeds from Nirvana.leggy and buggy as Hell.

I'm looking forward to the the experience of growing Indicas. I understand they are a lot less picky than Sativas.

I was reading a newbie's journal which will record the progress of his mainlining project. That post made me realize that both my mainlined White Widow clones failed to thrive a couple months after the second level of training. At that point when they withered, 4 and 6 months in. I had the four mains laid out, and they were grown out to about 7", then they withered and died. A third WW clone, which was untrained, also failed to thrive. I guess WW's aren't something I can't keep healthy, esp those who are clones so many times down the line that they have no vigor. But they were a freebie from a neighbor, through my grandson, so at least I didn't put out $ for the seed. Lots of $, however for electricity and food. :rip:

There IS some WW ancestry in some of my hybrids, however. The vigor of the other strains make up for it.

So I'm down to the ATFs, One purple Kush, the Afghani, and those pollinated White Castle (AK Durban Castle 47). They are all in synch, so it wont be a perpetual grow this time, when the youngest ATFs are ready to switch. The ATF's are very slow compared to the other plants started at the same time (around the end of April).

OK, comparison:

The veg unit posted on May 31, 2018.

And same pic taken today, with lights out, using camera flash only. All have been fimmed. I won't do anything fancy, except to tie down if necessary. The pic below is the same layout as above, minus the WW in the upper right corner. I just terminated her in place and left the bin, as it was still wet from the last feeding.

Hmmmm. I need to move that AK Durbin Castle 47 in the middle back to the right back and give it more room.

EDIT: already done, and slid more to the middle to catch more of the LED footprint.

I have three plans to finish out this grow.

1) if the Afghani and ATF's give me both males and female, I will breed them (separately) to increase the seed supply. The rest will be grown to harvest.

2) If they are all females, I will grow them to harvest..

3) If I get only male ATFs and/or Afhani, I will collect the pollen and grow out the rest for bud. As an alternative, I may crossbreed them. The later version of ATF already has an Afghani ancestor. But the one I have may be pure. No way to know till I do some research as to where Sue got her ATF from.

The hobby has lost it's appeal, so will be shut down at harvest. I HAVE to get the light bill under $100 a month.

There's no one in the family to share the "joys of growing" with.
It takes much too much of my time to keep visiting the "what's New" list, scrolling down till I find one of my buddies, and having to visit them every time there's a post (to get a notification in my email).
The cost of electricity is becoming an unnecessary expense.

I've already reverted the former "flower unit" back into it's original purpose as a rolling closet.

So no more perpetual grow in the foreseeable future. When the ATF's get large enough (they are the youngest of the batch) I'll switch them all. Then I will return the shelving units to storage.

Will I ever grow again? I don't know, but it has to be a whole lot more fun than this. I have enough supply to last years and years, as tinctures and powdered herbs.

Until then, I'll still post updates and pics of the final harvest, whatever form it takes.

I hate reading that, but all the same... I know the feeling. If you've no reason to do a thing, sanity dictates you stop.

I HAVE to get the light bill under $100 a month.

I understand that motivation, too.
