The two Blue Dreams are having bug issues and they are so late there's not really anything to do except wash or remove infested leaves. It's getting to be a struggle, so I'm thinking of taking them this weekend instead of next. They are good at 63-77 days, and this Saturday would be 65 days. It would save me a week of struggling to contain the mess when I have to walk through the new bloom room to get to the old one. They are organic fed, so flush is not so much an issue and they are yellowing already anyway. If I take them down this weekend I can cut my losses and sterilize the entire grow. It's an incredibly seductive idea. My perpetual garden never empties all at once, so it's hard to do that kind of cleanup and I have to take what I can get.
What do you all think?

The Azatrol/Spinosad spray plan hinges on the time it takes for a spider mite egg to hatch (four days) and the fact that the spray will not kill eggs. My mentor holds that if you spray every four days, you kill all the eggs that just hatched. If they have not yet layed eggs you are clean. He therefore sprays every 4 days.
I realize that the spray leaves a residue on the plant. The only truly clean places are what grows after. When the insects eat previously-sprayed plant, they get the Azatrol. This shuts down their digestive system permanently. It also interrupts their ability to reproduce. I believe that once you are confident the garden is clean, careful hygiene and a weekly spray should suffice to prevent any outbreak. It also saves money (Azatrol is spendy) and even though it is just an extract of neem oil it's nice to use less 'pesticide'.
If not sprayed in bloom or after, there is no issue with trace human ingestion that might occur. Azatrol has a half life that allows it to decay to almost non-existent in the time it takes to flush and dry alone. I stop way before that.

I'm having a constant spidermite battle as well.. My mixture is 16oz water, 5-10ml of pure rosemary oil, drop of dish soap.
I've found that this spray kills eggs on contact.. The rosemary oil is the primary ingredient in SNS spray, at a fraction of the price. I'm sure adding it to your current mixture would only produce good results. I'm with you on the perpetual garden so I know what it's like to not have a chance to fully clean out your room 100%.. It seems like no matter what I do I'm constantly battling mites.. What's worse is the source of the mites was from bringing in an outside houseplant for the winter.. stupid mistake on my part, but at least I learned from it.
But since you're having a hard time getting rid of eggs, definitely give it a shot. I sprayed my plants and then took a leaf about 30 minutes later and looked at it with my trich scope. The mites and the eggs looked like they had melted. They were all deformed and black.

The attempt to transition to a 3rd-day feeding regimen has run into a snag. The Grape Kool-Aid and the Cheese in bloom are overdry after three days and cannot be transplanted up a pot size at this late juncture. I am going to try for better saturation and try to keep the 3-day schedule. Perhaps I can suplement with a small amount of straight water on the second day to tide them over.
The trimmers will be here Saturday to take down the two Blue Dreams. Looking at the leaves, they look pretty flushed already, so tonight's flush (and maybe one tomorrow night) will have to do.

It looks like rosemary oil may be out of reach for me. To spray my garden, I need 2 gallons. That translates to about 80 ml of rosemary oil at 5 ml / 16 oz water once a week. I would need to buy it by the quart.

It looks like rosemary oil may be out of reach for me. To spray my garden, I need 2 gallons. That translates to about 80 ml of rosemary oil at 5 ml / 16 oz water once a week. I would need to buy it by the quart.
I wonder if less would work.
that is a decent amount of oil now that I think of it. I know you have a lot of plants, but if you still wanted to incorporate the rosemary into it, you could always have some on hand and give the leaves a wipe down with a smaller mixture of it. If you do that on leaves that have a decent amount of unhatched eggs, it will prevent them from hatching.
cheaper alternatives could be to boil up some crushed garlic and habanero pepper and make it into a spray. I used habanero's with the rosemary oil a few times and it really helped, but it was really unpleasant to breathe in, although it really cleared my sinuses.. I wouldn't want to spray it on buds because smoking it doesn't seem very pleasant either haha. The garlic works well, they don't like the smell of it so it drives them away, but in turn, you have to smell garlic in your grow room.
I know you were running chives a while back, how did they help with the problem? Do you think it would be beneficial to keep a few separated and plant them in the pots with the plants? I saw a few journals on other sites where people would plant garlic in their pots to keep pests away since they don't take up too much root space they wouldn't be in competition with the plant.. Definitely something I've been thinking about lately, my mites are really killing my yield and it's driving me crazy

Thanks. I may try that again, but I think if I stay on top of the spraying in veg I can beat them. Speaking of that, I should spray any day now. Maybe tomorrow night will work.

I mixed up a boosted bloom feed, and it came out hotter than I wanted. I needed to dilute it down. Here's my take on dilution.
If you know how much liquid you have (I had 5 gallons) and the current ppm (mine was 1270) you can find out how much water you need to add to reach a specific ppm by dilution, or what ppm you will get if you dilute with a given amount of water. Of course this assumes low ppm water. Mine comes in at 110 out of the tap, so it's close enough to zero.
If I know what ppm I want to end up with, I can use this:
x = (p * v)/y
where:
v = starting volume
p = starting ppm
x = new volume
y = new ppm
If I want to know what the new ppm will be if I add a specific amount of water, I use this instead:
y = (p * v)/x
So I had 5 gallons of mixed food at 1270 ppm and I wanted something closer to 1150 ppm. How much water do I add?
x = (p * v)/y = (1270 * 5)/1150 = 5.52 gallons
Remember that 5.52 gallons is the new volume which includes the starting volume. So that means I have to add 0.52 gallons, or just a hair over 1/2 of a gallon.
If I wanted to know what ppm I would have gotten if I added 1/2 gallon to the original 5 gallons, I could have done this:
y = (p * v)/x = (1270 * 5)/5.5 = 1155 ppm
(remember that y = 5.5 gallons: x = v + added volume)
In fact, after I added 1/2 gallon exactly, I got 1160 ppm. Right on the money, really. The difference was due to the natural ppm of the water I added. I could add that in to the calculation, but then it gets a lot more complicated and it's probably within the range of natural variation in the strength of a batch anyway. It's nearly impossible to get exact measured amounts with measuring spoons/cups anyway. So this works for me. It always puts me in the ballpark.
As for units, use whatever. You don't have to use my ppm scale. You can use whichever, even EC values. You just have to use the same scale for both ppm values. The same for units of volume. You can use gallons, teaspoons, garbage cans, buckets or whatever as long as you use the same units always.

I just got myself one of those pump sprayers and I can't believe I've been trying to kill bugs on a 30-40 plant garden with a spray bottle. It would take me hours before to get all of the plants and I'd leave the room with tired forearms. This thing gets great coverage on the plants and it's a breeze to spray the underside of the leaves.. I feel confident I'm going to get rid of them finally with this.
I've been reading up around the web and came across a spider mite thread, the overall consensus there was to use lavendar and get the same results as rosemary oil.. They would soak the flowers in water, then dilute and foliar spray, along with soil drenches, and everyone that used it said it killed the mites and eggs.. Definitely something to think about for larger gardens as lavendar is easy to grow, making the solution practically free.

I agree about a sprayer. For my setup a big greenhouse fogger works great for drenching anything that can get that wet. Pumping a spray bottle will mess up your hand, sure enough.
Tonights feed is only different from two nights ago in that I backed the Biggest Bloom (0-3-0) off to 2 tbsp and that put the ppm naturally in better spot.
I plan to transplant this weekend and I will put some Matanuskan into bloom. Tonight I'll be too busy de-stemming the just-dried Blue Dream I took down last weekend.

I won some of that sns spidermite control spray twice. What can I say, it works. I saw a lil mite action, used it and they didn't come back like when I used neem oil in the past. I one time had a mite problem that would not go away for months. I neemed oiled them, I insecticide them and they would be back in a month. To get rid of them I had to shut down everything and start from scratch. I got them one time after that and used the sns mite control spray for 2 weeks and I have been mite free for over a year.

So for the entire duration of this thread and even before that, If I was taking a picture of the view below, I was taking a shot looking through the door into an otherwise sealed bloom room. Now it is storage, trimming and drying space, and toke central:
Even stranger is that on the left wall I have hung an old army blanket. Behind that is a hole the leads out of the grow:
Here is a shot from the other side from when I cut the hole last weekend. Through the hole you can see one of the Blue Dream plants about to be cut down, trimmed, and hung:
For a few years now, this view was looking out the veg room door into the garage. Now it's a bloom room. There's another door on the right, but it stays locked, bolted, and sealed from this side (emergency exit only):
All four plants in there are on day 26 of 56, so they will all be harvested in about a month. In the front row is Cheese on the left and 'lavender indica' on the right. In the back row are Grape Kool-Aid on the left and BigBud x BlueMagoo on the right.
The hyper-observant may have noticed there are pink labels. They were all given names from "The Color Purple" by one of my own offspring. They used the pink duct tape.
First, here's the 'lavender indica'. Her tops average about 28" tall (from the soil surface). Her canopy is roughly 32"x32":
Next is Cheese. Her tops average about 30" tall. Her canopy is roughly 36"x30":
You may have started to see some deficiency damage. I have adjusted for these and then pumped the ppm on top of that. The are looking good at the new growth. I'm comfortable with it as long as it continues to improve, and I believe it will.
More Cheese:
Here is the BigBud x BlueMagoo. Her tops average about 30" tall. Her canopy is roughly 40"x44" but very sparse. BBX is like that, but this is a strong example. I'll get a lot of little bowl-sized nugs from this girl:
Last, but most certainly not least, is the Grape Kool-Aid. This one was huge in veg and is easily the largest in here. Her tops average about 45" tall and there's a lot of them in a nice cone-shaped bowl. Her canopy is roughly 45"x48". I'm glad she's not stretching - she's a monster:
These next two are the same Grape Kool-Aid. The first is without flash, and I think very beautiful. The second is with flash and shows the trichomes in abundant reflected light. Both images are the same top from about the same angle. Close enough to see the contrast between the two views:
They all have curly scorched tips on a lot of their leaves, but they will be OK. They need CO2. I should move that to the new bloom this weekend too.

EDIT: I upstaged my own picture post on the last page. If you are the type of reader that tends to jump to the end, you might want to go back for this.
The Blue Dream harvested last weekend is now off the stems and in tubs to homogenize. They are are essentially jar ready, but letting the sit for a day or two in a large batch helps equalize the water content throughout, making it very uniform and predictable.
I weighed it out and there is 578g of dense, sweet, and sizable nugs. Jackpot!
