A Lotta Ins, A Lotta Outs, A Lotta Strands In The Old Duder's Head: Urban Grows Mad Stanky Dabs

Whew! Well done UA. :thumb:

It’s a nice neighborhood with incredibly helpful neighbors. :cheesygrinsmiley: Those organic soil guys have my greatest respect for the way they shepherd members through the process. :circle-of-love:

You may have wound through a more varied path, but it looks like you’re catching on nicely. Tim’s portrait was a nice inclusion, kinda pulled at my heartstrings. :green_heart:
Hehe thanks Sue. Helpful is a mindset. Its the staying focused on that task which is difficult.

i am catching on but real full on living organic is much more work than I am doing. I have the organic soil for dummies handbook and seem to only reference it when I am in trouble.

Its neat going back through my images and seeing things as I was seeing at that moment. Earthworm Tim lol.

Nice history Urb! And your pizza? I'd hit that! LOS is fun to learn and do things with. I'm a beginner and see there's many chapters in the LOS book to learn.
Thank you! Better than reading the old journals, just get the highlights.

Pizza is a big deal. They say pizza is like sex, even when its bad its good. I disagree. Bad sex and bad pizza are bad. I have had both where I wish I hadnt put that in my mouth...

LOS is challenging but worth it. Nice product and sustainable

I should be asleep but noooo.

Autpot System
I felt that this needed its own post. It kind of triggered a few things to discuss.

The autopot system is a bottom tray, gravity fed, automatic watering system. I felt my watering was an issue and I purchased this system to remedy that. Pretty sure Bob was the one who turned me on to this system, Now I feel I have some time in the seat to give a bit of a review and explanation.

The black reservoir holds enough water for me to be able to leave them alone for a week or two. Depending on where they are in their growth stage. It needs to sit a few inches above grade to ensure proper flow.

Simple designs are my favourite. Rubber grommet, rubber line, and a small rough filter on the inside. I avoid using things like ACT, fish fertilizer, or other biological ogranic fertilizers. Just to keep things clean. I have been out of H2O2 for a month. But typically I add some to my water regularly.

The lone Candy Cane is the only plant in the tent while the dabber seedlings grow. So I took this opportunity to change the reservoir and put some fresh water in.

Part of the magic. The float valve system
View media item 1746873

Critical part of this thing. That simple T knob. I manhandled the first one and mangled it enough where it wouldn't keep the float device in place.

So with a deft hand I ensured its place in history. No issues since I projectile vomited expanding gorilla glue all over it.
Two grows and zero issues. I really am digging the autopots for the freedom they give me as well as the piece of mind. No cables, no pumps, just simple engineering...and a little glue.

How about some baby photos!

Ok. I have to credit Duggan for this. Bit of a discussion about fans, filters, placement, etc on another thread. Basically a number things I do aren't Ideal. My fan and filter aren't directly connected, my filter is on the ground not above, and I had 7 feet of ducting wrapping around the area before exhausting. It isn't ideal. But we weren't talking about me and these are things I already know.

My set up is now solid and it hasn't failed in 2 years and my fan is OP. So while its not perfect its fine. The one thing that I did feel that I could change is the excess ducting.

I also wanted to show a bit more of the grow set up. It is hard to get a certain style of photo because of the small area I have the tent tucked in. This photo looks messy. The ducting comes out the tent, connects to the fan, the exhaust wraps around a bit before exiting the room. The blue extension cord is not in use, but in the tent in case of emergency. But looks sloppier than it is.

Regardless I cut off around 7 feet of ducting and hooked it back up. This is a good photo to show the flow of the tent, water, and ducting. Each situation is so different. Things I have done have either counter balanced or solved problems created by the space. Thats all I have to say about that.

I wanted to show you why I don't feel I need small plastic fans in my tent. Not yet. The circulation I get is good enough. (just the last grow or two without oscillating fans) Keep in mind, my filter was centred through the last grow with four autopots on the ground. So the video doesn't show the actual circulation when centred In the tent. I estimate the circulation would be more even.

Its probably important to mention that this isn't the ideal set up. Its just how mine is. I feel the oversized fan and filter combo for my small tent can let me get away with this.

I also want to show you my custom filters that help clean the air from the open tent ports, necessary to bring about the needed circulation and flow. Quick post, off for an event, but here you go.

Little vid, because of course I did, and my first song I ever made. Last year.

...when I was using powdered/bottled nutes in regular soil, I would use h202 to presumably give the roots a blast of oxygen and fight any nasties...since going organic, I have never used it in the soil, as it doesn't distinguish between good and bad bacteria...as a foliar to fight leaf bound pests, would probably be acceptable...
...usually any time away from the girlz, has been able to be planned around regular waterings...maybe 4 or 5 days without ill effects...my plant count is lower now, so rigging up a system to give me 7 or 8 days should be easier...I have one of those clay stone auto watering systems, I've never used...with a big enuff' reservoir, might work...dunno. but would definitely test it it before leaving, if life ever gives me the need or opportunity to do so...
...quiet night on the beachfront tonight...usual happy hour/sunset time with the crew here, then some grilled damn hot italian sausages, actually made by an ex pat from B.C. who has set up a nice little post retirement business making various sausage/smoked meats...having a couple barley pops, apparently rambling... ;)...cheerz...:high-five:...h00k...:hookah:...

I haven't purchased any H202 recently so I think I will just roll on without it. Seems ok.

Pretty happy with this set up. It works well. I am able to leave for a week, get a family member to dump 5 gallons in and I am good for another week. So two weeks away is all I really need. But more importantly the plant can drink what it needs when it needs it. My tender loving care abilities are limited.

Awww that sounds amazing Hook! We went to a WHL hockey game tonight and enjoyed ourselves with various tubed and pressed meats. A few drinks, some THC tablets. Life is good.

:) you've been a busy man urb all kinds of things going on here your babies look happy that's a good start good luck bud!
Babies are doing great, pretty excited to watch them thrive.

There is definitely a lot going on. Keeping myself busy and exercising the brain. Growing, photography, audiovisual, and day to day chilling. Taking 2020 for all its worth.

Great attitude and great journal

Photographing Your Plant for Contests
Since I brought this up earlier in the journal, I thought I would follow up with some proof of concept. I want to stress that I am not a pro. Just willing to share things I recently learned to improve your photos. Like a big brother taking you out to burn the clutch out on his trans-am.

I told you about the power of the cheap $15 light reflector/diffuser. Showed you some examples of what the diffuser can do. How about its ability to not only bounce light, but change its temperature or colour?

Beautiful colours on this Candy Cane Auto so I will be snapping lots of this through flower. I posted a photo a few posts back that was a idea, not a complete image, my good cameras battery was dead. This is what I was actually visualizing.

I needed a high vantage point to get an overhead shot of the bud and its amazing leaves, without a distracting background. At the end of this post I will show you how I did it. But lets see what this reflector can do. This is all camera, only one photo has been edited and its labeled. (all were cropped)

First off, here is a regular photo taken with my Canon D80 and 100mm macro lens. Candy Cane Auto.

Then a photo of the gold side of the reflector bouncing light into the shadows. I used a remote shutter. Everything done here is to prevent shake. Camera shake, motion blur/shake, plant shake. We want stillness.

Very golden, like a sunset, or sunrise. In this situation its a lot, particularly since the reds and oranges already existing on the plant. It is worth the effort to check the effects of each of the reflectors. You can do some neat things with them.

Here is a photo of the bud using the silver reflective side. Pretty nice and even.

I chose one of the golden reflective shots that wasn't overkill and lightly edited. But the morale of the story is that this $15 reflector is amazing. It can take your photos to another level. Give it a try, oven pan, or something shiny. Doesn't matter if you use film camera, a 15 year old cheap gift camera, or a smart phone.

This wasn't an easy photo to get either. I had to work for it. Thats what you gotta do when your best lens is a 100mm macro made for taking close ups. But do what ya gotta do.

Now that we stopped to smell the bud roses.

I checked in on the seedlings. Looking good. But a strand popped up in the Ol' Duders head, one that Hook put there I believe, about not using H202 since it doesn't know the difference between good and bad microbes. Which is totally the case. I have a post for that lol.

In this case, I used water and H202 in small cubes used post seed pop, and probably nuked any good microbes in the process. So I topped them back up with new soil and gave them normal tap water that has been sitting around for a few days. Should also give them a bit more nutrients available to push their next up pot as far as I can.

Thanks bud, lol yeah sometimes we need to look at things from a different angle before we see the light, I am often looking for the next photo while shooting the current one. But all praise be to the lowly reflector lol

Pretty excited about the babies, they are happy and looking good, with the auto not too far from chop. 2020 has been good to me so far.

Looking great brotha . Dabs genetics are awesome .
Thanks bud. Working it. This could be the round I put it all together lol. "Keep it together, keep it together..."

Is there a name for the Grape Krush x Stankberry @TheMadDabber ? Because typing that shit out all the time is gonna bug the OCD in me that wants smoother sentences lol.
