re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

ya you know i am going to try this.:high-five: that soil mix is cheap. what do you feed them? and where did u get the compost from? are you PHing ur soil or letting the micro life do it? IMO organics is a good as it gets when making ur own soil just like mother nature, last i remember mother nature wasnt mixing up nutes in her waterings. dont think ive seen her with a PH meter also?

ive been a big fan and always wanted to try SubCools super soil, just allot of work, but its cost effective in the long run because it last so long. just a pain to find the stuff.lol

It's a lot of work and last I heard, SubCool grows in 7gal pots. That helps his soil last through a whole cycle, but I agree that if you build and feed your soil, everything else will take care of itself.

I've used two kinds of compost, one much hotter than the other. I got a bag of this cheap organic compost that they pile in front of grocery stores these days. Pretty decent stuff, dark and rich, no big chunks. Then I got a bag of this Paydirt chicken manure compost, and it smells pretty strong, but I went ahead and mixed in the full part. I'm not getting any burn with this compost and my plants love this mix.

I'm sure I could go through veg without adding anything, especially since I'm only vegging 2-3 weeks currently, but I still get big growth spurts when I supplement with a liquid fertilizer.

I've used several with good results, including GH's dry Maxi-gro and Maxi-Bloom, Botanicare's CNS-17 series, and the FF trio.

They all work well, but since I'm growing in both soil and coco, among other things, I'm mostly using the CNS-17, as that is more of a coco-specific nute that also works well in soil.

Since the soil is fairly rich, I keep the ppm at 300-400, and supplement every third time or every other time I water, depending on how the plants are doing. There's always a nice growth spurt after the liquid nutes, and absolutely no burn or any other distress, so that's what I've been using lately.

The GH Maxi series is *excellent*, but you do need to shake it up good to get it all in solution. I got a hand immersion blender and solved that problem. Well, actually, I took the one from the kitchen and I'm hoping Mrs. Sun doesn't notice ;).

The fine print on GH's application chart for the Maxi series says to only use it every third watering, and to use 1/3 dose if you're going to use it every time you water, so it's high-quality, incredibly cheap, and concentrated, but you gotta read the fine print, or you'll burn the hell out of your plants.

The CNS-17 and I just click. Nobody hates to PH more than I do, but both the GH Maxi and the CNS-17 buffer PH so well, that if you use a consistent source of water, you only have to use the PH meter a couple of times until you get a feel for things. I don't break it out at all except if I add something new or do an occasional check, and I'm always right where I want to be, so essentially, there's no PH'ing at all with these nutes once I get a feel for them, as long as I'm consistently using RO or rainwater.

I've also run a few pots with my soil mix and just Dynamite Mater Magic, but growth was slower and I wound up supplementing with liquid nutes.

Just ordered a bag of FF Happy Frog Tomato and Vegetable, so I'll let you know how that goes ;).

re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

its best to adjust PH in ur medium with D lime and not worry about ur water.

But doesn't dolomite lime have to be in the soil for a couple months before it stats to work? and also isn't that for adding to soil? Because I've never heard of anyone using it to pH water before.

the frost and smell is like no other jacks ive ever seen and the most frosty plant ive ever grown hands down. if only i had a good camera to show you guy

I wonder how much of their success is do to the Spectra lights over an HPS?

Just ordered a bag of FF Happy Frog Tomato and Vegetable, so I'll let you know how that goes .

Mine should be arriving tomorrow, I also have the Happy Frog Fruit & Flower (which I bought as part of the moonshineman super nothing but water mix)

My next grow is going to be equal parts FFOF, FFLW, FFPM, and Perlite Then I'm going to load it with azos and mykos, plus maybe some HF Tomato/Vegetable or FFPM Fruit/Flower depending on which transplant. Slap em into air pots. Plants go into standard 16oz Red Party Cups under CFL in pc grow tower (maybe upgrade to spectra LED if it will fit) for 10-14 days. Then into .8 gallon Air pots for 2 weeks. And Then :P into 5 gallon or 12 gallon air pot. I think I could grow as many as 4 or 5 plants in 5 gallon air pots in my 2.5ftx2.5ftx6ft tent with the 395w 2011 Spectra. Next grow will probably just be 1 or 2 plants in SCROG though. There might also be a 9 plants in 2 gallon airpots grow too :P

nice right up brother, thanks!
keep me posted on the HF, been looking at that

like i said its best to PH the medium and not the water. but you can add DL to water for faster results, its all talked about a few pages back by Be Irie he explained it real good in a few post.

I wonder how much of their success is do to the Spectra lights over an HPS?
i think they would be a success no matter what light, i think the organics and big roots system and environment played a big role. i think leds helped over HPS from seeing SS side x side, but i could have success with any light, but we will never know because i no longer use HPS

re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

Ok so I got the new fan/filter combo in and went from a 130cfm which isn't normally used for these grow filters
(6 x 14 ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FILTER ODOR SCRUBBER 130 CFM)

to a proper 190 cfm fan (Amazon: New Hydropronic 4" Inline Fan With Carbon Filter Combo Odor Control Air Quiet)

Tent: GL80 31"x31"x72" / 2.5ft x 2.5ft x 6ft
Light: 395w (total/actual draw) 2011 Spectra

I have my LED light hanging about half way up the tent, and about 10 inches of the plants.

Above light: Temps 8-9 degrees above room temp (temp of room tent is in)
Below light: Appears to be room temp, maybe a few degrees higher within 10 inches of the light.

With the previous filter above light temps were about 15 degrees over room, and up to 5 degrees above room where the foliage actually was.

It seems for use in tents you can count on Spectras raising your temps about 5-10 degrees unless you put too many or too few lights in your tent.

PS: I was more impressed with the actual filter on my foothill fan/filter than the one I got with the better fan. Plants aren't smelly yet so I don't know how well it filters the air. Its definitely coming out faster, hopefully it isn't too fast for the amount of filter or it will have been a bit of waste to have purchased this* *(As I don't feel the temps I was getting before were all that bad)

re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

It's not just about controlling heat, but providing your plants with plenty of fresh air.

Even if your temps were manageable with the weaker fan, your plants are going to do a whole lot better with the improved air exchange.

Amen, thats the key to my 100F+ temp grows, i have a ton of fresh air and CO2 and makes a world off difference..

Is there a point where too much air exchange becomes detrimental?

Just ordered a bag of FF Happy Frog Tomato and Vegetable, so I'll let you know how that goes ;).

Used regular happy frog. Too much perlite if you ask me. Crusts up real bad, cracks along the edges quickly.

Just my 2 beans worth.

Your jacks are rocking it Irish! Love it...love it.

thanks bro.
these were clones from a med club
That is some serious frosty goodness!!! Is there a significant difference in the end-product that is grown organically vs. traditionally?

As a side note, isn't it sad that the term "growing traditionally" is synonymous with "using chemicals"?

:rollit:

thanks buddy.

ya that is sad.lol.. to be honest i will know more once i harvest and smoke some, but ive grown Jack crosses before and see plenty of them (none organic) and these are the best ones ive seen, the frost is unreal, and smell is allot stronger then anything ive smelt from Jack. the colors are just allot brighter. just seems pure. but i will have to do a smoke report when i harvest to see if its truly better tasting. ive smoked allot of Jack so know how it smoke pretty good.

re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

The Jacks look gorgeous. Still waiting for flowers on my test clones. Looking forward to being able to grow such a crystally plant.

re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

ya i added stuff to my soil, EWC and humic acid and feed them seaweed

lets hope they like it, i was always under oppression that seaweed was better during flower.

ladies are looking good bro. looks like they will start fillin in.
how long u got to go for the jack?

got my crystal chunk tonight, she looks good. nearly ready to lst :)

re: 480W & 720W Grow LED Hydro - Land Of Clovers

Short of having your plants sucked out through your exhaust fan, I don't believe so ;).

If you're exchanging all the air once a minute or somewhere near there, I have to think that the CO2 level is going to be very close or equal to the ambient level of CO2 outside the tent.

Once you get close to the ambient CO2 level outside the tent, it's not of any benefit to exchange the air any faster than that, and too much air *motion* can create stress, so the "Tim the tool man" approach to ventilation prolly not a good thing.
