420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow By VetSmoke85

I'm in. Looking at the latest pics I am wondering if you are over watering?
:welcome: Yeah looks a bit that way but if anything I think I've under watered. Usually let them dry up completely between feeds but this time I'm using organic amendments and need to keep some moisture in the soil. I've let her get almost completely dry though. Figuring out the balance.

You know the plant gods can't let you have a big fast plant without some challenge lol. Perhaps she got less nutrients than desired due to the dryness and amendments not kicking in yet?

Yeah was wondering if that could be the case. She's visibly grown since the watering yesterday but I don't like the discoloration in the leaves and I see purple veins now.

I went through all the pics and it looks like she went red really quickly all of a sudden. I wonder what the stress is. Perhaps she is hungry? The browning almost looks like the beginning of phosphorus deficiency.

Due a top dress at the end of this week so I think I'll just do that on the next watering and see how she responds.

Thanks. Popped a post on. Will have her back on track in no time I'm sure.

I have several thoughts here... first I agree about the overwatering. Just because this is an organic grow doesn't mean that we can abandon the need for a wet/dry cycle. The microbes, if you had any, would be fine drying out... it doesn't kill them. The roots still need to see oxygen between waterings.

I think I am seeing a magnesium deficiency here... that is not a biggie, just add some organic calmag.
My question is where are the microbes? You are intending an organic grow, but you are pH adjusting your water? We pH for synthetic nutes... it is not needed in an organic grow. But at some point you need to add some microbes to this thing, or all those organic additions are just going to sit there. So far, you have been enjoying the free Nitrogen in your soil, but now as the plant is getting bigger, you need a wider range of nutrients. If you aren't planning on brewing some compost teas, you probably need to look into a microbial inoculation product such as URB, Voodoo Juice or RealGrower's Recharge... and there are probably more out there these days that do the same thing. Get a strong microherd working in that soil, and this will turn around quickly.

Looks like a pH issue thats really not that bad. I get plants with brown spots in seedling stage. I usually pull those early leaves anyway cause they too close to the soil.

Could just be that - too close to soil. I never let leaves get close enough to touch soil or the container. Better air flow is good.

Thanks for the feedback. Below is the description of the grow product. I thought it had microbes in there but maybe I misunderstood.

Yeah from what I understood I wouldn't need to pH the water but the website said to do that so I thought I'd follow their recommendations. Maybe I'll sack that off. I've got some biobizz calmag so will add a little on the next watering and allow it to dry out fully first. Thanks again.

Thanks Bo. I'll keep that in mind. I'll try to do a slurry test this week.

The Grow has the fungi but no mention of microbes. The wormcasts definitely have the microbes but what type and how diverse? I've been going nuts digesting living soil and microbe content/information and those are the key workers which break down those dry amendments into a more available form. The fungi do a similar job but do more of the transporting part concerning water and nutrients. I'm also looking online and it isn't clear if, what or how many microbes are in the light mix. Biobizz actually have a new microbe product similar to recharge coming out too.

I'll pick up some of the Ecothrive biosys and add that. Can't do any harm.

Can go out to the woods look for a old log laying on the ground. Take a bucket and a scoop. Look for EWC right beside the log.

Scoop and add a handful to your soil top dress and water.

There's your microbes and fungi.

Here she is today on Day 24. Not too bad. Tomorrow I'll be picking up some ecothrive biosys and charge to help boost the microbial life. Will have a top dressing of grow formula at the next watering too.

Here's an undercarriage shot so you can see the beginning if training the quad branches out.

Thank you. I love close-up photos of training techniques.

Hi Vet. I'd like to follow along. I don't think I have any interest in doing quad-lining myself but I'd still like to see how it works.

Thank

Hi! You're more than welcome to tag along. Great to see you here. I love the training part. I've done two small quadlines in my little cabinet previously but this time I'll be trying to fill my tent with it.
