420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow By Modest Grower

Day 17 and the two in the tent continue to look better. Here is the one that had it the roughest. Took this picture just before topping. Tried for a FIM so we shall see.

Happy Monday! Day 18 and the ladies look pretty happy. Still carrying signs of the initial issues but they now look a healthier shade of green and are reaching up a bit. Slowly dialing it in. Ph is staying at 5.5 the res temp is 69F the tent is 75F and the humidity is around 70%

I think the two are growing very vigorously but also very compact. My plan is to raise the @Budget LED light to the top of the tent and crank it on intensity :headbanger:

Hoping to keep the growth rate going but get a tad more stretch. Temp and humidity should stay the same but I'll keep an eye on that. Let me know if I am way off on my plan, but we will see what happens!

Day 19 and we seem to have hit our stride!
I also think both tops successfully resulted in FIMMs or 4 points of new growth so that is exciting. Hard to tell from the picture but I included one just for reference. Both look promising though!

Moving fast now , tight node spacing

Some nice looking little shrubberies you have there MG. :thumb:

Looking like a fun experience & new challenge :green_heart:

I think the res needed to be higher in the beginner as to touch the beginner root zone area to avoid nutrient def or by PH issues or PPM for stage of growth a very long story.

But it seems weird why one plant suffers more than the other ?

Which may suggest a flow problem with in the RWDC system ya got running.

@Fuzzy Duck you are probably spot on about the level as I did raise it slightly on refill. I think flow should be ok as I was worried about the other side being lower as it is closer to the res but they both seem decent after refill. May have just been the roots took longer to get down there for the impacted plant which is true.

They are looking damn good man! Nicely done. That whole setup is just plain awesome. Makes me want to try it! But first I need to get through this grow unsuccessful. Haaa haaaa.

I'm paying attention to your tops. I am not entirely certain I understand what a FIMM is compared to just topping. Need to research that some more.

I haven't topped mine quite yet. I was hoping to do it after I transplanted them into their next pot. I am tempted to do it during the transplant so they can deal with all the shock all at once. I was planning on a slip pot next anyway which should minimize stress.

Thanks so much for stopping by and your kind words @BakedARea I have been so pleased with the set up for my first attempt. It might not be everyone's style but it checks a lot of the boxes needed from what I read.

As for FIMMing, there is a really nice picture online with a red line drawn and some explanations. I reference this image every time I give it a go!
Found the image in the first post of this thread right here on 420....
Thread 'How do I use the FIM technique on my plant?' How do I use the FIM technique on my plant?

Additional info: if you cut too high you get some deformed leaves and you can re cut. If you cut too low its basically topped which is cool too

Day 20. I must say, these ladies have told me when they needed something and forgave me soon after I gave them what was requested. Its been a learning curve for me but I think that says even more about these genetics.

This is my first time growing hydro in a DIY system and these two plants have been forgiving enough to allow me to continue to dial it in. Thank you again @Weed Seeds Express and @420 for this great opportunity.

Happy almost Friday everyone! No pictures today but a quick update..... the ladies have started some serious training and changes. These plants are growing vigorously and very grower friendly but I hammered them with the awesome brightness of @Budget LED lights a bit too close and too strong early on so the nodes are super tight but a little too tight at this stage. Great learning lesson and super happy I have the power to grow tight nodes on demand thanks to my new light.

Anyway, so far I have raised the light and debated lowering the power at the new height but since raising it have been full power. Today, I took some leaves that were shading future branches. My goal is to promote thes branches to grow out and hopefully gain a bit of length. I'll post a picture at the latest on Monday but I anticipate by then they will look much different. Time to water and feed the lady in soil, giving her a little calmag as well....OK one picture this is day 17 for this one I believe
