4 Strawberry Kush F5's - How Red Can We Get 'Em?

Question Scrogdawg - I am a SCROG man myself - grow in coco and train em quite severely beforehand - do you stretch out your girls using LST? if so, how do you support the root & stem base to avoid them moving about when you splay the branches up top?

I see you top from very early on - maybe you rely on this method to bush em out?

Cheers :)

By the time I start tucking, the roots are solidly bound in the hydroton. Theres no movement at all at the base.

I top once then let the two main branches and however many side branches grow upward in the corner of the scrog. Once they reach the height of the screen I start tucking and work them toward the sides and center of the screen trying to leave a top in each 3" square as best it fits. I remove fan leaves as necessary so the tops are always getting direct light. Generally thats a fair amount of defol as I'll have 70 or 80 tops on the go. Once the screen fills to about 70% I will flip to 12/12 lighting. It takes me about 10-12 days to see first pistils which I then consider day 1 of flowering. If the stretch is tall enough (ie; Sativa) I'll put in a second screen and tuck them sideways again with necessary defol. I also switch to flowering nutes at day 1 of flower.

Heheh :)

Can't see any mention of how the redness will be achieved - any word on the ScrawgD?

The redness will be achieved during the last 2 weeks of flowering/flushing. I plan to put an air conditioner into the tent and force the temperature down into the high 50's or low 60's. I'm hoping, we'll see how it works...or not.

Thanks SD -

So the hydroton is the bucket underneath? now full does it get with roots? total rootball?

fair play, i didn't imagine that would hold tight

Do you defoliate much shoot growth or just the fan leaves?

Are you going to bring the temp down just in their night phase?

I had heard that cool temp at night towards the end of bloom brings out red & purples depending on strain - guessing strawberry kush is named cos it goes red? lol

here's my SCROG - laid it last night - slightly different method - I LST train in veg to spread wide, bush em out a load, then about ten days after flip, defoliate the smaller inner and all the lower growth & sling the net

did a little super cropping after this too, gonna go feed em and take a few pics of the super cropping now :)

Btw do you give em a period of darkness just before you begin flip?

Me I turned lights off say from 11am friday to 9pm saturday - what's that, 34hrs?

Lets the flowering hormone build up and sends a strong message that it is time

I find when the lights go back on they have generally all got pre flower pistils coming out - seven days after flip I will find pistils on most if not all nodes

nearly two weeks into bloom now and they are deffo into flowering, all tops showing pistils in the new growth :)

This is a net pot filled with hydroton. It sits in the top of the bucket. This is a young veg plant with early root development. The water level is kept about 1" below the bottom of the pot.

This is a root ball from a harvested plant inside a 5 gallon bucket. It fills the bucket.

I've haven't given them a dark period prior to flipping in the past, might be something to look into. Thanks.
I only trim fan leaves.
Yes, I'll drop the temps in the night phase.

Holy crap

Subbing up here, nooby DWC'er hoping to learn and just plain drool on good looking plants!

Welcome. All questions or comments are fair ball here. We have a bit of fun and do a little growing too.

That is a really clean grow setup. It's light years beyond the under-the-stairs grow, but I kinda miss those days. You with your innovative setup that met the budget while including the tools needed for your thoughtful, methodical, data intensive grow style. Tunker's with his mad scientist "try everything and damn the torpedoes and take no prisoners and nobody dies on my watch" approach. And me just throwing money at it cuz I like new toys.

Come to think of it... nothing has changed! LMAO

Kind of sums it up alright. But if Tunkers should happen upon something I like, I'd steal it in a heartbeat and call it my own.

Now drop some Mama Thai x Thai Stik and some Mama Thai x Pineapple Chunk seeds and lets move on...

I think tomorrow will be flip day. The scrog is filling up nicely. Probably have an average of 15-20 tops on each plant to grow out. 60-80 colas will be a full house for sure. Did some heavier defol under the screen to get a little more air in there, I'd noticed some water droplets hanging on the bottom sides of a few leaves.

Done! And thank you!

Should prove interesting to grow three strains in one RDWC. .

RIP Hawaiian MUTT :rip:

That looks like a good mix. All are very bushy and fairly tall so its a good thing your RDWC is spaced out like it is. Yeah buddy, let'er buck.

I don't hesitate to defol at any time during flower if its needed. Heavy if its needed for sure. My yields have been good so I don't think its hurt anything.
