300w LED - Sunset Kush

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Yeah man, I've been smoking MJ since I was 15 and I'm 32 now and I've never been that HIGH. It was crazy how intense it was. It felt like I was under water looking through a coke bottle glass or something. MY vision was crazy, I was almost drooling on myself(I think I did once or twice). I'm like, WTF did I put in there. I woke up at 4 in the morning to use the restroom, banged up into the wall almost fell over still MAD high. I couldn't believe this was happening with just left over vape scraps. This year has been a stellar for CA Chronic, but that was ridiculous. It was almost a 24 hr roller coaster that I kind of wanted to get off of. Too much of anything is usually never good. I was never a big eater of ganja, but I have here and there in the past. I know now to watch the dosage, I never respected eating dank brownies, until NOW. :hippy:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Yup, if you eat brownies (or any edible) make sure you know how much and what is in them. I had some friends make butter for a batch of brownies, and they used a QP of rhino. One batch of brownies between 12 people, all very heavy smokers. I didn't get there in time to eat one but those who were still awake all said "don't eat the brownies" then passed out. Every one of them slept at least 12 hours and were still retarded high the next day! Too bad they didn't realize how potent they were, could have cut each one into 4. :peace:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

The last time I ate a brownie, I cut it in half and gave half to the wife. She passed out early. I didn't feel the effects for like an hour and then I thought I lost all control of my mind. I didn't want to fall asleep because I was convinced I was going to die. I hate it when I lose control of my thoughts and images just bombard my conscientiousness. It was a total bummer trip. I will (probably, most likely) never eat weed again because of that.

Sorry to go off topic so much.

SS great job. I'm enjoying this grow and, as always, learning from you.
Thanks!

The two remaining girls are doing good. No alternating nodes or flowering yet, but it's getting closer.

The lights are at 16/8.

I missed having three plants in the tent, so I added one of the VK crosses back in. I LST'ed this plant a couple of weeks ago and it responded very nicely. This VK cross is from reg seed and sex is still undetermined.

Halfway is outside and I'm waiting on the male flowers to mature so I can collect some pollen. Removing him from the vicinity of the females seems to have slowed down his bloom, which doesn't surprise me because I believe that plants can sense and react to each other and adjust their timing in order to best ensure procreation.

If I don't see any definite bloom action in a couple more days at this light schedule, I will flip them to 12/12.

The two Pure Power Plant seeds I planted to grow out as clone donors for the upcoming LED/HID comparison have sprouted and are doing well, so that's on-track.

thanks for your support!

Well, it's one thing with a professionally made edible where the dose of THC is therapeutic and consistent, and quite another with home-made edibles, which can vary in strength a lot.

Some people have never smoked and would rather not use medical marijuana that way, so it can be a good alternative if care is taken.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Thank you OMM, I hope so too!

This plant responded to LST very well, but the other VK cross just sat there and did nothing for a few days, and is only now showing some branching response.

First plant I've ever seen do that, and I was thinking it might be a sign of maleness, but I've LST'ed several plants that turned out to be male and they didn't stall like this one.

thanks for dropping in OMM!

take care my friend ;)

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Yep, I supplemented after the transplant into the larger pots with FF Grow Big Hydro for a week or so until the level of the OC+ nutes built up, and it's been just the OC+ since then.

The medium is Perlite with 20% Turface.

Just got back from the grow room. Nodes are starting to alternate and there are tiny preflowers, but so small that I can't tell if male or female.

I like how LR2 smells when growing. Nice skunk funk. Not one of those strains where you might mistake the smell for something else. You know exactly what's growing in there ;).

No pic updates because I couldn't post for a couple days due to software issues, and I'm going deep sea fishing all day tomorrow, but I should be able to update Monday night.

:thankyou: brother Soniq!

I've been wanting to do this LED/HID comparison grow for a long time, and I'm hoping it generates lots of good information and discussion.

This grow has the promise of being a true and unbiased demonstration of how these two technologies stack up against each other, and I'm both honored and stoked to be the grower.

Let's make this grow something we can reference when all is said and done.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Can't do a pic update on this journal due to not being able to find the "upload photos" button, but I'll update with pics soon as I can.

In the meantime, I guess this was meant to be a two-plant grow. Perky turned out male also. Good thing I started the two VK cross seeds when I did, or I'd be down to one plant. Neither of the two LR2's that turned out male hermied, they're straight males, and I suspect the seed bank sent me reg seeds instead of fem.

In any case, Butterball and the VK cross, heretofore known as Vicky, have shown female pre-flowers and should fill the tent in nicely. Butterball is, well, a butterball ;), and Vicky was LST'ed and has bushed out nicely.

I'd rather have pollen from Halfway, the earlier flowering male, who is doing very well outside, so Perky's a goner. I try to not waste anything, so he's headed for the cannabutter pot.

Let's see, what else.

The 80/20 perlite/turface doesn't retain enough water to be a good medium for these pots. Using 50/50 perlite/turface, or straight coco, or 50/50 coco/perlite would work a whole lot better. I was watering twice a day and decided to set the pots inside some deep saucers that will hold a lot more nutes. I'm still using the bubbles to aerate and keep things fresh.

Again, sorry for the lack of pics, but hopefully it will get fixed soon and I can upload.

:thankyou:

You know exactly what's growing in there
Olfactory love is deep, odor control ain't cheap but
worth all the effort it takes to grow the sensual kind.
or straight coco
I doubt there is any percentage perlite that can improve upon pure coir.
Not for water retention/availability, nor for air-flo permeability. IMHO

I don't know why other peeps cut it with stuff, but my reasoning was that it would give me a buffer as regards the instability some growers have with it, at least until they get their game down, and still significantly improve the wicking over straight perlite.

Speaking of media, I was at OSH today and they had big bags of horticultural pumice. Did some reading on it, and it sounds excellent for hydro.

But yeah, that's why I would consider cutting the coco 50/50 with something else until I learned it well enough to use it straight.

I read somewhere that after re-hydrating, it helps to prep it with cal-mag in order to lessen it's tendency to hold on to them.

I do think straight coco would work really well in these self-watering pots.

Butterball is a trip. This was my late-sprouting runt, that I almost culled because I didn't think she would amount to much. She turned out to be the only female out of the three, and grew from a runt into a big round bush. She started her stretch a couple of days ago and is now up to 17", having grown 2" today.

We're going into the stretch with two great ladies ;).
