'Hello' said a very interested dude who's wanting to get his outdoor grow started..... My I go to the start of this Journal and frantically try to catch up? I'll sit down here at the back, I won't be problem, honest!

Bookmarked.
hi Mark, hope thats not your real name if you live in AU lol, anyway sure you're welcome as everyone else is, no rush, not too serious here

Sculptures in velcro and velvet. Outstanding. Hilarious. You sure grow pretty cannabis mr X.
thanks DD, again these are not just pretty faces, they gotta have the facets mentioned before, plenty of good lookers are in the bin cos they just didn't make the grade, eg Alphakroniks Jackpot Royale crossed with Mosca C99 approx 2013, that one were a very good looking result, resin coated buds, good yield, odour were sweet as, yet when tested its smoke quality were a 6 out of 10, they must be 8+ out of 10 to pass, so were not grown out again, it were solid proof that some types can have plenty of resin yet be relatively mild to what you would think, ive heard a number of types available from seedbanks like 'Peyote Purple' have this same issue, looks fantastic & resinous yet without real power
thats why i like to mostly research strains before they get crossed with others, proven very good quality types usually produce same offspring, though its never 100%
my goal as a pollen chucker are essentially same as a gambler, like throwing a handful of darts at the dartboard, eventually you will hit a bullseye, and that bullseye will be as good as anything you can obtain in every facet anywhere, when that rare gene combination are matched very well, anyone can do it without any skill level, if your pool of pollen chucks are large enough, and the best proven types you can find are used, though better be prepared that most wont be what you are searching for, about 1 in every 15 pollen chucks here usually result in that rare gem, and if you are pollinating an 5'/1.5m female there will be approx 2-4 thousand seeds of that gem as a result, nice knowing you got those babies in the larder!

I've sampled a friends purple punch from I believe IHG. It was the best looking plant I've ever seen in person. But smoke was average at best. Probably 6 or 7 out of 10. I've grown some that didn't look the best that were solid 8's. As a grower it's nice to see a beautiful plant. As a consumer it's got to be the right buzz I'm searching for. I'm not super concerned about types of flavors. But I do love lemon terps. The gassy, earthy, kushy all don't matter much to me. Just smoothness :) Smoothness is why I grow. Got sick of buying others erbs that was harsh. Took matters into my own hands

thats exactly what ive read about IHG's Purple Punch too on other forums, the Purple Punch from what ive read elsewhere as well were one of the major letdowns in the last 5yrs, widely promoted as the next big thing, certainly were a glamorpuss, yet when real growers like us grew it out it were a letdown, i almost got sucked into that one, glad i couldnt afford those seeds at the time & let others trailblaze into that B grader
*good to grow your own, its much safer, a person never knows what chemicals & poisons some people use on their plants when buying it from someone else

Us too. With a low and slow dry and a jar cure our home grown doesn’t even taste like cannabis. To clarify - it tastes like cannabis should, whereas nothing we’ve ever bought came close!

My last couple of runs have been water only. Using subcools super soil recipe. I'm not a big fan of Sub, but this mix is works. Smoothest I've grown to date. No tea's or pH water. Just r.o. water that usually is 6.5 - 6.8 out of the r.o. tap
i do not know anything of Subcool, only his seeds, which mostly are good, a lot of characters in this game i can imagine lol, that's neat you have a method going that's as least toxic as you can find, with us carrying pounds/kilos of dissolved plastics in our bodies as reported by eminent scientists not so long ago we are in a shitfight to maintain our health even at a reasonable level, no wonder cancers are rife, our toxic bodies are a perfect soup for those nasties to flourish

about 10+ yrs ago, not familiar with the internet being a latecomer, i read a review about Reservoir Seeds Sour Diesel & Chemdog types offered in seed form from Gypsy Nirvana, fantastic gear it seemed so i snagged a few packs, indeed that stuff is without doubt one of the finest herbs ive seen, and it really does REEK to the extreme, still growing it out now, point is it wasnt till about 1 year later i read of the Reservoir Seeds dude having stolen said genetics from some other cat who were the original genuine owner, and it were widely promoted for people to NOT buy his wares, now if i had seen this info before buying the Reservoir Seeds i would probably have not bought them...but then i wouldnt have some of the best genetics in the world in my larder right now? glad i didnt know of the negative info before the purchase lol

last i read on this saga were a startling admission from the original owner of the Sour Diesel...Reservoir Seeds had actually been in possession of the best of the cuts of that type, so it were the best in the world of its type as admitted by the original owner, if i remember now it were that Reservoir had not stolen those genetics, but had been gifted said genetics with the oath of not making it commercially available, which Rez did in the end, there maybe different versions of this story floating around & i will probably be scolded for getting it wrong somewhere, im only recounting what ive read elsewhere as best i could, im really not interested in the skulduggery of it all, as long as there are nice buds in the bowl & no one gets hurt its all good imo

I'm interested in breeding a few strains. It'd be nice to have a bunch of seeds to pheno hunt. Mr X do you do open pollination? Sorry if I've already asked. I'm a weed smoker and I forget stuff :laughtwo:
im lucky to live in a remote area with much bushland around with relatively few people, so i have any prospective males together in a group miles away from where i live and keep the girls together at home, when an proper male appears he is taken to another place miles away again to be with his harem of chosen girls, i have 4 different areas for these isolated matings to occur miles away from each other so cross pollination does not occur, so 4 different males are present, i usually leave them together for 10-14 days for a thorough pollination to happen, females are taken out to males approx 3wks after first showing sex because if females are pollinated early there will not be many seeds develop
its easier to choose females to breed with than males because their charms are more obvious than the male's, in males look for overall vigor, branch pattern, stem rubs between fingers to get an idea of its odour, in general a stronger smell usually indicates a stronger potency, also if you have a number of males of the same strain you can cut a few leaves from each of those males & smoke test them individually to test for which one is more potent, there can be large variation between male's potency
with choosing females again look for overall vigor, structure of plant, usually the females that finish earliest are not the most potent, so the mid to later term flower type females are usually the best, sacrifice your best male & females to breed with always, it will pay off
good luck with it there

hi @Dankman_420, error on my part about IHG releasing Purple Punch, which it never did, IHG released Platinum Punch(Platinum x Purple Punch) + others crossed with the Purple Punch, Symbiotic Genetics released Purple Punch 2.0, though it was the Platinum Punch from IHG which were where i saw poor reviews about, also saw poor reviews about Symbiotic Genetics version as well, when the Purple Punch were first released it were rushed at by many breeders & outcrossed to try to cash in on the hype, it worked for a yr or two before people realized what were up.
i don't doubt some of those others crossed with the Purple Punch may come out as satisfactory or even good, if the one its crossed with is powerful enough to make up for what the Purple Punch is lacking
