1st Grow: Blue Dream

Hmmmmmm. might be cheaper to source 6 or 8 cit cobs.

I am still trying to understand what a QB brings to the table over cobs. I know their the newest...
I was thinking about trying to incorporate the 2 together. Has anyone done that? I was thinking like a qb in the middle, two COBs then another board at each end of the fixture. I don’t know enough about the science of it to know. Just seems to me that combining the technologies into one unit would give the best of both worlds. Just a thought.

The big factor for me, and those in smallish tents with all LED varieties is # and placement of ballasts. This is where the heat is for the most part and getting them outside the tent can help if possible.

Running combo lights requires sometimes running an additional ballast for the different fixture. I am pretty sure we can get 6 or 8 cit cobs on one ballast but when you cut that in half and add a QB for half the wattage, your running additional ballast/controllers.

Just something to think about.

The QB for me is more suitable for larger tents because the light source is one plane (granted larger) whereas COBs emit from multiple points and are easily spread out moreso with mounting.

I am light agnostic really. It's what really fits and is sufficient to the application. If I had enough space and cooling I would run HPS in a heartbeat.

Are boards available at 3500K yet vs just 3 or 4K?

I think if I ever build a light I'd go with the Samsung strips. Rider sold me on those.
Yep this! ^^^

If/when I upgrade mine a little its going to be with strips I think. Although I have thought about combining some cobs in there too Magoo :thumb:

My light is covering 2.5 x 2.5 grow area in a 3 x 3’ - not 2 x 4... :)
