1080w LED Inferno

wow I just checked 420 Magazine's Nug of the Month Contest: May 2010 and i have 21 votes on my XJ-13. I am a very happy man right now! thanks to all of you who voted for me.

It was an honer to be growing a Jack Herer strain after Jack Herer passed away. Jack RIP brother you strain truly kicks ass. You will be missed by us!
thank you for all your hard work to make cannabis what it is!

My planned method of venting is from the tent into my room since It will be in my closet whcih is why I am thinking about bout this material to help prevent the heat signature recognition. Some on the hood of the light the ducting and in the tent and possibly in the closet It comes in 100SF 4X25 rolls. Just another thing to budget for along with all the other great things I am picking out of this grow. The LED's seem like a choice for people who plan on doing a perpetual grow save tons of $$$:nicethread::bong:

they have those radiant covers for your light hoods that do just that and keep heat from radiating out. from what ive read they work great and keeping IR and temps down. their like $50. you can also get some insulted ducting at Home depot. if your really worried about FLIR. I for one dont worry about that stuff at all. I have friends who run 4000W of HID and never had trouble and the bird in the sky fly's by all the time. But i understand the peace of mind and doing things to prevent things. but to be honest the only time i would think you should worry is if your running mad watts and venting the heat out side. you just have to be smart how you vent your heat out, and make it look like a dryer or somthing

I have a chiller for my main box when running hydro but when cloning I have a one quart system going that'll clone one plant at a time. Works great in winter.Guess I'll have to go the H2O2 route... will the 3% work? Not sure where I can find 35% around here. What is this slime anyway? Is it the first stages of pythium?? .V.

3% is what you want. If you ever end up with 35% you need to dilute it to use it anyway. That slime is some kind of anaerobic bacterial over growth that will suffocate the roots and allow pathogens to enter the plant.

With a RH of 22%, a swamp cooler could really help you. They start at less than $100. Just a suggestion.

I have a portable AC unit that uses evaporative cooling and only kicks on the AC compressor if the evaporative is not being effective. I experienced the opposite of you - it dehumidifies my room as it does the evaporative cooling. It's pretty inexpensive to run, but then ambient here has only been in the low eighties lately.

Too lazy to quote:

With an oil-cooler, radiator, etc., I would be concerned that the nutrient solution flowing through it might leach some undesirable elements from what the thing is made of since it doesn't have to be "food grade" or otherwise safe in any way for human consumption. Maybe rig up a "non-contact" type of cooler where something other than the nutrient is circulated and then used to indirectly cool the solution in some manner?...

Hey TS, I was describing an apparatus to cool the air, not the nutrient solution. It exchanges, or moves, the heat in the air into the water. Float a couple of frozen plastic milk jugs of water and replace when the ice melts.

i think sometimes you guys forget i am running a hempy setup so a chiller isn't going to help me since its drain to waist. a traditional A/C can not be mounted in my grow room. and i can add air stones because my plant roots are sitting under sunshine #4 and tons of perlite in a 2" res.

Guilty as charged. I forgot. Guess I'm not big on drain-to-waste systems as I've spent enough time in wastewater treatment plants to know that 99% of the stuff that goes down our drains goes right through the plants and back in to the river or wherever the municipality dumps it and so I probably subconsciously blocked it out, lol. Plus my head is not in a good place right now which can't be helping.

Yeah, if it's in an attic then it'd look kind of unusual if you had an a/c stuck through your roof.

I was thinking that your pots were all perlite and that you had 2" or so of solution sitting in the bottom of them at all times. Which would seem to be an acceptable location for an airstone. IDK, I shouldn't have been posting today because half the things I read either don't make sense to me, or I find I'm reading the same line or two over and over, or I get two or three people's grows mixed up. Think I'll just go lie down and stare at the ceiling until morning.

Ahh, like an air-to-water intercooler. Sorry man, I was confused (see above).

You guys have a good night, I'm out.

LMAO you crack me up!! it sure wouldn't look good with an A/C unit sticking out the roof.lol. that is too funny.

Wow mighty brave playing in that heat.

Hey u seem to like those LEDs, what other LEDs have u tried?
I have a procyon and a couple ufos and have never been too impressed, other than a couple successes when things were dialed in absolutely right. I pretty much have givin up on them other than as a secondary side grows. Do you think the glh is a big step up from what i've got? (I do feel the bud turns out a little better under the LEDs, as far a flavor and smell goes)

Good luck with that heat, I get worried when it gets over 80! I've dealt with temps like that but man they were suffering.

Your lights got me thinking "led" again, and i've already pissed away a grand on mine!

Ive used a HGL 120w, a PS 90w ufo, and a PS 180w jumbo ufo, then of course my GLH 600w.

Ive never had too much luck with those other led lights, seems the quality of buds were lacking compared to the GLH light on my last harvest.

I dont want to step on any toes but i am not a fan of Procyon led lights. Ive seen lots swear by them but ive seen so many grows with those lights and i haven't been impressed. to be honest i think any of those lights i said is a step up from that light. but so far GLH lights are my favorite and thats what i am gonna stick with from now on, unless i see some impressive grows from a few people using a different light. Ive spent over a year trying different leds and at the end it was a waist with week harvest weight and decent quality nugs.

take a look at my buds the 600w grew. read the page i posted the pics for info on the strain, i noticed you grew a strain just like it, so match quality to your grow and let me know what you think? 420 Magazine's Nug of the Month Contest: May 2010

and take a look of a plant that won me 420 Magazine's Plant of the Month Contest - April 2010

both of those plants yielded around 4.8 oz per plant for a total of 19oz from 4 plants. this is the reason i am gonna do this grow with these lights and not go back to HID, well and its too hot to run HID.lol

These last plants i grew were the most potent buds i have ever harvested. my camera doesnt do them justice.

If your gonna use leds again do your homework and look at others grows to make up your mind. I dont want to tell you witch light to buy, thats not my place all i can do is give my honest opinion from what i have seen with my own eyes.

I will never say Led is better then HID because i love HID but from what i have seen so far i think leds might produce better quality buds. watt for watt.

Irish, Thanks again , Lots of good info happening here for me a Newbie LoL. anyways isn`t that 22 RH Really really, REALLY Dry???

Would that not also Hurt the grow??? So adding something to get the RH up wd. that also not help the temps??

I don`t know just asking?

Those are some amazing buds you submitted to bud of the month I am surprised you don't have more votes. You did a very nice job with those... Great job and good luck...

I went thru that journal a bit, damn dude, mighty impressed.
I expected those results with my leds, got nowhere close, and you killed my hps with them too. Alot points to mad skills, but your lights sure held up thier end of the deal as well. Can I +rep a light?

I am amazed when I see people still touting the Procyon... It should not even be compared to the new LED's, as there is no comparision.. LED's have come along way since my procyon a few years back. I can't wait to see some of the LED/HID grows coming up... Irish has done one hell of a job with his grows and is showing what can be done with them when done right.. Pay attention boys and girls, you are seeing R&D for the possible future of indoor gardening. You don't have to jump on the bus, just keep an open mind.... :reading420magazine::ganjamon:

LOL. Flashbacks. "Viva Las Vegas." LOL.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyway...

I may have asked this one already, but does your light setup produce an appreciable amount of UVx? If not, have you considered adding some to see if it helps or hinders either the plants' health, yield, or both? In my mind I could make arguments for it being likely to go either way, but that happens to be an unstable battlefield today so this is NOT a suggestion but rather merely my curiosity talking.

Might be strain-dependent I guess. If a strain is one of the ones known for producing Δ5-THC and known for producing more of it in the presence of higher UV, then it would seem to make for a more potent yield but that says nothing for the conditions that they are growing in.

I hear you on the heat - our room went over 100 today, and the plants finally showed some stress on the leaves nearest the light. Poor girls.

We just hooked up a portable a/c... ran the exhaust to a T on the fan, good thing it's metal piping since that mother blows out some HOT air when it's trying to cool a 100 degree room.

Anyway you can rig up one of those $100 window a/c units?
