100% Virgin Grower

Re: 100% Virgin Grower- Day 2

UPDATE: Checked on the seeds first thing this morning....no activity as of yet. Im not going to be able to order the MH system until tomorrow so Ill get that delivered fastest way possible. I decided to go with the 400 watt enclosed MH system. Its going to put me back about $190 after tax and shipping. I see that as a great deal, especially with a 5 year warranty.

I read that germing 6 seeds is usually what people will do in order to insure that they have at least one female out of the batch, so I have high hopes. On the other hand, I wont be too discouraged if I muck this grow and have to start over.

Im also going by the nursery today to see what I can get!

Today is a beautiful day. :peace:
i strongly suggest that you buy a good brand light, and not an inclosed ballast. That ballast is a source of heat and should be outside the grow . And if you buy a switchable ballast, then you can switch from mh to hps, by switching bulbs. I suggest lumitek !! :yummy::yummy:

Thanks OilFieldTrash, Ill do that. In the meantime I have 4 CFLs in two clamp reflectors with y-adaptors pushing 6400 lumens for the seedlings. I have these in the rubbermaid container with the reflectors clampt to the top (mylar as well). The seedlings are in solo cups on top of a shoe box to put them about 3 1/2 inches away from the bulbs. I spent $31 for this setup and I think it should be sufficient until I wire the t5's in. Any suggestions or opinions?

Are you in a state that has MMJ? That what it sounds like. If not then buy some feminized seeds that way you know they are female :):goodluck:

How many watts is your T5? It sounds like you have a logical way for this grow. I will be checking back in. Also I am going to use some official reg seeds or bagseed as well to get germination and prepping for veg growth down pat before i start ordering the good seeds :):Rasta:

Hey Myzz, thanks for your continued input. I definately think you should do a bagseed grow first to work out any kinks. This has helped tremendously because I keep on finding more things that I should do differently and have made many returns and changes. I have made some mistakes that I have learned a lot. You all have been a huge help! :thumb:

I will check into that. I took the t5's back. They just didnt seem right. I saw them in the store lit up, and it was really red light. I need veg lights so Im either going with a MH setup or stick with CFL's then switch to HPS lamps for flowering. It will probably be most cost effective/yield effective to go with a switchable ballast and MH/HPS for veg and flower. 400 watts will be sufficient for my grow. Thanks for your input Slowpuffer, I hope that I can provide some great bud porn soon for you guys and gals.

Update::smokin::smokin::smokin:I checked on my babies this morning and one has barely sprouted over the surface. It seems a little slow...Im thinking I dont have enough lumens on them (6400). Its only covering about a 1'x1' area so maybe you guys have a suggestion? In the meantime I think Ill get a couple more reflectors and put another 4 bulbs on them making it 12,800 lumens. I am trying to be careful not to overwater them, but the lights are very warm and close to the tops so I am checking it frequently. Im going to add a fan soon. Im very very stoned right now. :peacetwo:

 Today is the third day that I have had the seedlings under the Cfl's and it has been pretty successful. :smokin::cool::smokin: Two of the seedlings have made it about an inch above surface while I can see signs of two more of them pushing out as well.:yahoo: Not much of an update but I will try to have some pics up for you guys after work! In the meantime, there are some great journals in progress in the forum! :reading420magazine::reading420magazine::reading420magazine::reading420magazine:

Sounds like you're off to a good start bro. I did my first grow with bagseeds and CFLs.. It was an extremely budget grow, but ended up with an ounce of some damn fine smoke. Hang in there and you will be surprised as to how well bagseed can grow.

My current grow is a bagseed mix.. I have 3' monsters starting to swell with buds. I can't wait to smoke them. It's going to be a good summer!

just checkin in on ya im glad to see all is well with your grow keep up the good work.

Thanks for your continued support Stouse! :peace::cool::peace:

Your first grow was actually my first journal Crimson! I have to give you credit for a lot of technique I have picked up as well as inspiration to do this budget grow with cfl's. So, THANK YOU for everything! I only hope to have as much success as you had with mine. :passitleft:

No problem bro, I'm glad I could help you out and get things moving.. That grow is a great example of what you can do with practically nothing.. I had bad soil, bad lighting, no nutes, and no experience haha. You're already ahead of that, so I see good things in your future. Stay on top of them and we're all here if you run into any problems. :bong:

Ok guys I have 4 sprouted! Im hoping for 1 female out of this! I should have bought feminized seeds from the bank but I instead bought top44 (remember this particular grow is bagseeds until I germ the top44's). Does anyone have a particular Nirvana strain that would be best for my next grow?:grinjoint: I think I may be getting ahead of myself! lol...anyways, I have been giving these babies a little bit of water each morning and they seem to be loving it. Ill give another update after work!! :smokin:

Soooo these things are about 3 inches tall now....the second set of real leaves are still trying to get themselves established...part of me is thinking this is moving too slow. I think I may change my bulbs to all daytime CFL's instead of having all the different ones going at once for veg...Ive got some pics I want to share with you guys, I just need to find my upload cable...i must be :smokin: lol...sorry for the lack of updates...i been finishing up my next album! Ill be back soon to post some pics. Get my album April 20th fools.

Hey guys...sorry i havent been keeping you all up to date with me on this grow. I learned how to transplant the hands-on way...i was only able to successfully transplant two of the 5 that were growing BUT my Top 44 seeds came in so I germed 3 and all 3 popped and are now in soil.

So hopefully these Top 44 babies can catch up to my bagseeds that are really moving fast now. Any time the leaves start to curl or look burned I dont worry right away and they tend to clear up no problem. Everything minus me killing 3 of the bagseeds (while trying to transplant) is going VERY smoothly. I have continued to be very minimal, only adding lights when needed. I did go out and buy a bloodmeal (nitrogen) supplement and the two bagseeds seemed to really love the feed. I only did that once but they shot up a ton over night when I fed them.

I know that me not growing with MH/HPS lights and not using the right veg and flower nutes is going to effect my yield, but I really am trying to get my feet wet with this grow. I have 3 kushberry seeds that a buddy of mine gave me that will be used with my next top 44 grow.

it will definitely affect your yield, but you can still get some very good bud from what you have. The important thing is always improving on the previous grow and before no time you will be chopping pounds down

Thanks for the words of encouragement bro! I have some good news I think...I got home today and my house smelled like straight funk so I checked my plants...and although my plants are barely over 3 in. in height, they are showing signs of sex...and if Im not mistaken they are both females!! Ill have to wait a day or two to know for sure, but isnt it strange that they are already showing their sex, or is it strange that they are only 3 inches tall? Theyve got a good amount of vegetative growth I just feel like their not big enough to start flowering. What do yall think?

thats definitely pretty small to be showing sex, but I've seen it happen. My current batch showed sex before the light cycle was changed, but they were also 16" tall. Throw some pics up when you get a chance. There is a possibility it is just new growth, but it could be showing sex, only the pics will tell.

Ill do that big bro I appreciate the input...Step out on the balcony, Ima put this headband I got rolled up in the wind...:rollit:

Aight guys, thanks to Crimson, I am totally unhappy with my grow so far. I know I said this was going to be an inexpensive/minimal grow, but I've already invested about $180, so whats another $300 to get it right. Ive done my shopping and have decided that I am going with a 2'x4'x5' grow tent with a 400w switchable ballast. I am ordering Fox Farm liquid nutrients as well. I would buy all of this stuff locally but my local hydro store marks up their prices somethin ridiculous, so I am ordering all of this through amazon. So yea, new grow space, new lights, new grow medium, new nutes..I think that should change the results Im getting substantially...just look at the difference in the big homie Crimson's first grow (with CFL's) compared to his current grow (with MH/HPS)....difference of POUNDS!!!

As for my current grow...Ill finish it out in its current home and according to its original plan. I may start my next grow under CFL's for the first week or two in hopes that it induces more females or even just to keep them from stretching too much. After that first week or two Ill put the MH in there.

nothin to update...these things are getting pretty stinky though!
