Yet Another Cheap But Efficient CFL Grow

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

Thanks man! Glad my 1st attempt was able to give you the confidence to try for yourself. You will not be sorry! Just keep up with the tying of branches where you want them. This helps with light penetration to get more "tops". I was tying well into the first 2-3 weeks of flowering.

:goodluck:

Thanks man, so far so good. The last one I LST'd isn't doing so hot. Gonna post a couple pics in a bit. God damn soil LOL note to self and everyone on here, DO NOT USE SHULTZ TROPICAL SOIL!!! The stuff sucks.

Pics in a bit.

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

So first off, plant #5. This poor sap ain't doin' to well, I might scrap her if she gets any worse. I figure it's a pH problem..either a zinc toxicity or nutrient lockout. I don't think they like the soil at all. I tested the pH today and it was 7.0 exact, the runoff being 6.9 when i flushed #5 yesterday. I guess this strain needs a bit more of an acidic medium. Lesson learned. :)

In other news plants #2 and #3 seem to be thriving, with hardly any nute burn by the looks of it. #4 is also starting to outgrow #1 which was originally the biggest plant.

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

Shultz tropical soil. It's apparent now after 4 waterings that the stuff is complete garbage. It hardens up to the point where I have to squeeze the pots to crack the soil, just to get enough oxygen to the roots (it's horrible..reminds me of your average ground dirt) and needs to be watered way too often, considering it's a moisture control-type medium. :lot-o-toke: Not impressed at all.

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

Hey Zep, just checking in to see how your doing. Guess you didnt like that soil much. Not familiar with it soooo, I would think tropical would be coco like or sandy. Been hacking balls at my house. Waiting on some stuff that might save my ladies! DM Reverse, am hoping it helps.

Yea the soil was a bummer, found out after I threw out the bag that it contained some kind of slow release nutes. Might as well have been using MG :lot-o-toke:

Been pretty busy lately and havent really gotten a chance to get on here at all. Hope all is well with you Tmac, I'll be popping over shortly to catch up on your journal :)

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

Now for the bad news...about a week ago I came home to a huge mess. My youngest dog, only a little over a year old, got into my closet (which I shouldn't have had open -_-) and destroyed my whole setup, knocking over a bucket full of distilled water and ruining my carpet. I was too pissed off to take pics of anything, I just stuck her straight in her crate, where she stays from now on every time i leave the house. Anyways I did manage to salvage two of the plants...of course the ones I LST'd were the ones I came home to her munching on. Despite all of them being horizontal and covered in dirt, i was able to get two brushed off and nurtured back to health for the most part.

So now I got these 2 short, 1 month old, nute-burned plants to deal with...I just went screw it, and put them into 12/12. Today they are a week flowering, still no signs of sex on either. Flushed them both an hour ago, and now i'm just waiting for the soil to harden up a bit so I can get them transplanted into a better medium.

Hopefully this starts to get interesting..so far this has got to be the lamest journal on here :high-five: I have been allotted one major screw up, let's see if I can avoid any more :lot-o-toke: I'll have pics up soon of my last two little guys, and as of tomorrow I should have 2 more PK seeds germed and ready to plant. Try and stay tuned everyone, I know it's been boring but things will pick up! LOL :)

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

Sorry to hear but a pup left to its devices is gonna find something to do.... crating is always a good thing! Glad you are pulling them thru... just give them a couple more days they will take off!! :high-five:

Re: Yet Another Cheap But Efficient CFL Grow :)

I guess your dog likes weed as much as you! :) Sorry, bad attempt at a lame joke. Seriously though, I'm sorry to hear about your girls being munched on. I will stayed tuned for the bud porn.

Re: Yet another cheap but efficient CFL grow :)

Oh man that sucks... My dog is the same way. I Think id kill it if he did that to my plants lol.

Throwing good vibes at your plants man

If she didn't know better, I probably would have came close LOL. She's just a pup though, so she doesn't know any better. Thanks for the good vibes man! :)

Thanks Tmac :) Sure enough you were right :rasta: I woke up this morning and found some nice pistils, which werent there a day or two prior, so I am now 100% sure they are both female :slide:

Thanks man, but I hope that's not the case as they turned out to be females! I'm sure she won't be going near my closet anytime soon after a whole day of being crated. You can definitely count on some bud porn in the near future though

Pics will be up soon. Man have I ever been slacking! :lot-o-toke:

And now the update.

This morning I woke up to this

And the two seeds ready to plant, that I had started germinating a few days ago. They should be sprouted in a day or two.

The two girls I have left are finally out of the horrid soil. Re-potted them in Hillview professionally formulated medium. They're already starting to pick up :)

Re: Yet Another Cheap But Efficient CFL Grow :)

Thanks guys, I was a bit worried a few days ago when i saw some 'bulb like' growth near the lower part on one of the plants where there should have been pistols, :lot-o-toke: but so far the bulbs haven't progressed at all and now there's a ton of pistols all over her. The other plant is doing well and thriving with new growth :)

Of the two seeds I germed and planted a few days back, one of them has sprouted. It will be #1, and the other #2.

#3, the one with the bulbs

Re: Yet Another Cheap But Efficient CFL Grow :)

Looking beautiful Zep. Just keep checking them.... look under the little leaves around the buds. Balls really like to hide. Between the stem and bud is very popular! Of course I maybe a little paranoid about them at this time. Having 4 girlfiends hermie can upset a girl!!

The thing is they took longer to show they were girls. Then the one plant took even longer.... then I let my guard down for a few days... that all it took!!

Yea after seeing how easy they can just turn on ya, I was a little paranoid too but...NO BALLS :) All pistols so far, although the one with the nuts is a little slower developing. Both smell awesome :yummy:

As of today they are 4 weeks flowering, pics are of this morning before lights on

I also built a little veg cab...still gotta get some lights set up in it. The two seedlings are about a week old as of today as well, and they had to get their own light schedule, so the veg cab was a must.
