Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

im sure autos will improve as more people grow and breed them, i wonder if breeding an auto with a none auto plant would weaken the auto side and make it grow bigger at possibly an extra week or 2 of growth, but it would increase yield, im sure we will see a new autos that are big hitters, i just harvested a greenhouse seeds auto bomb and i love every bit of the bud of it, its so tangy and fruity like sour sweets, its a really nice smoke, i harvested the top and left it a week then did the rest, when i got to the last few buds and was trimming them i found some small bananas, only small though so not sure if it seedied or not. i wouldnt mind a seed from it though, its the best tasting bud i have grown so far.
But then look at my g13's poisen dwarf, it was a quick finish as well, or so the seed bank described, i planted the seed and it sprouted, it had no stem, each node grew on top of the leaves below and after 6 weeks it was only an inch high at the most, so i decided to lst it to get the nodes below to grow, as soon as i lst'd it it grew like crazy, more than an inch a day, then it went into flower, but it took 3 months roughly to grow and flower, so this wasnt a stable strain, but things will get better, more people will buy them and cross them then cross them back and im sure we will end up with some big hitting autos, till then i cant see more than an oz per auto, but their is a jounal on here where the grower got 4.5oz per auto, i put mine in smaller pots and i know for a fact they would of got bigger in a bigger pot, not much taller but they would of bushed out loads, they only grew out as big as the pot they was in, so ill use bigger pots next time,

But... but... an auto IS a cross between a Ruderalis and whatever S/I the breeder chose...

I like Deadhead Ripper better now that you bring it up again, but I think I was trying to avoid having Ripper in both names or some silly thing. I think I'll go back to "Deadhead Ripper". Too many other "Jack"s out there, too, so it makes more sense to make it clearly a Deadhead and Jack the Ripper cross. Thanks!

OG Ripper = (OG Kush x Jack the Ripper)
Deadhead Ripper = (Deadhead OG x Jack the Ripper)

So I'm thinkin' if I cross the Larry OG male with the same female, I could call it Larry Larry...
Then my wish is to cross Blackwater with Blueberry and call that Black & Blue, and then with the Larry OG and it'd be: Black & Blue Larry.
God how all the names really mess with me. Hard to keep them straight as there are so many... Larry...

yep, an auto is rud plus a indica or sativa, but then when the have cross the rud with indica they get an auto seed, but what im told they then do is cross the new auto with another none auto plant and this produces the higher yield, but this could be crossed with other none auto and other autos and im sure after time they will have some really stable auto with a decent regular yield, till then i think certain autos are not stable and others seem very stable, the one i had finished when it was meant to, the only difference was the expected yield and plant height, so as more breeding is done im sure these will get a lot more stable and produce more buds

Another drive bye. Hey seen you used a OG Kush in your seed adventure. I guess I'm alittle lazy but was it the female or the male? I have a sweet looking 4' bush of OG Kush about 6 weeks in. I did manage to cut afew nice babies off her. The plant I got has a great smell to. Kind of fruity and loaded with young sparkle. The plant has a look of a great plant. I seen very few oldtimer grows without it in their gardens. I've never grown it but I've heard great things about it. I was wondering if you got a chance to smoke some of it??
Dude that one strain, Chocolope, That's another one I've heard was top shelf. I've heard of alot of local growers at the hydro stores here, talking about growing it. Pretty plant. Then one of my favorites, SLH. I've only grown it out once and that lemon smell still sticks in my nose. That one I 'Will' grow again. Stupid me, my PE didn't make it last time I tried it. I see alot of people growing it. Least on this site. I seen somewhere people growing a plant called 'endless sky'. Suppose to be another great production plant.
Well XLR looking good keepem that a ways. Keepem Green

Hey Wood!

The OG Kush was a female - I pollinated her with a Jack the Ripper male. OG Kush is the second best bud I've vaped/smoked, next to Chocolope which is still my favorite. The OG Kush that I grew was actually pretty similar to the Chocolope as far as the high and even the taste just a bit. I'm like you, I mostly grew it because it seems to be a favorite of a lot of seasoned tokers - and it's a classic. Mine was a terrible yielder, but I've heard that's not unusual. They say the trick is super-cropping the OG to get a good yield from it. I supercropped some of the branches but got lazy - I definitely should have done more. Mine tastes a bit like Doublemint gum to me, but it's a hard flavor to pin down. My wife thinks it tastes nothing like Doublemint gum, so who knows! One thing I can say, is that I really love OG Kush!!

This is my second Chocolope. The first one didn't turn out well for me, and I only yielded around an ounce from it, but it was the best I've had without a doubt. Great for my nerve pain, and very upbeat/social. Mine tasted like fruity pebbles, but some taste like chocolate. There was a bit of chocolate in the exhale, but it was all fruity on the inhale. The one I'm growing now smells identical to the last one I grew but should yield a LOT better.

I can't wait to try the SLH. It smells like Lemonheads! The pheno I got is as heavily Sativa as I've seen. Very sativa leaves and bud structure, and a mega stretcher. Sure smells divine though. I can't wait to try the SLH!

Thanks for dropping by my friend - hope you are well!

I crossed the Jack the Ripper male, with my Jack the Ripper female, too. HOWEVER, be aware that these seeds may be subpar. Whenever you cross a strain back to itself, such as your Larry Larry idea (love that btw!) you can get a fairly wild expression of recessive genes, many of which may be undesireable. On the other hand, it's often a way for an experienced breeder to really find and bring out interesting traits that may be laying beneath the surface. For you and I though, we'll probably have better luck with the other crosses that have more genetic diversity. Not saying don't do it while you're there, but wanted to point out that these can be much bigger wildcards. :)

My Big Bang Auto was something like 4.7z. I believe it was probably my Big Bang Auto journal you're referring to (link in my signature).

I don't have anything against autos, personally. I'd grow a thousand of those BBA's again, I know that! My thing is, I like diversity and like trying new strains. The Big Bang Auto I grew though is still also amongst the best bud I've smoked or vaped. Probably in my top 5!

i knew i seen a big hitting auto somewhere it was a while back but now i know where to send people when they dont believe me, loads say they would love to see an auto that big, im going to have a read through that journal mate, might even pick up some info i can use to improve my autos next time i grow them, any chance you can remember where you got the auto from, id like to give it a try, the auto bomb i harvested is by far the best bud i have smoked so far, loving every minute of it, so id like to try other auto as well, due to their quick finish and no lighting schedule

Yea, I know, but THANK YOU for reminding me. I was really, just kidding around about the Larry/Larry. All the names people come up with, makes it hard to pinpoint something particular, especially when from one place to another checking out the same names, one might find a world of difference in the bud (taste, potency, etc) and it is just crazy how many there are out there... Makes my head spin.

Grow update - Day 41 bloom (Near completion of week 6)

Okay, I don't know what happened, but out of nowhere I started getting chlorosis on some of my Chocolope leaves. I've given them a thorough flush with Sledgehammer, and hopefully things will start to right themselves. I think I caused this by either or both: waiting too long for my periodic flush, and maintaining a PH that was too consistently low. I've been letting it spend too much time at around 5.5 - 5.6, and have been so busy that I hadn't really noted it wasn't creeping up ever. So, in addition to flushing, I'm operating at about 6.0ph at the moment. I've never really had or seen leaves quite exactly like these on the Chocolope. It doesn't seem to have hurt the plant or the buds otherwise. The leaves themselves look healthy other than the chlorosis. The buds have swelled noticeably even recently.

I think I'm approaching the fix correctly, but I'm curious if anyone's had or seen leaves quite like this.

Of note, there is no purple stems. There is no signs of bugs or infestation. They appear burned or locked out, and the chlorosis isn't interveinal it actually is veinal. Primarily, the tips, the serrated edges of the leaves, and the veins are affected. Started at the top and worked down. I think it's a combo lockout that includes magnesium, but I'm open to suggestions. She did get heavier defoliation than the Deadhead and SLH, which aren't as dense naturally as the Chocolope was. For some reason, I'm not really that worried. I'm doing the right things, and I think she's just stuck with some ugly leaves now. :)

Deadhead OG and Super Lemon Haze both look great. No lockouts or leaf chlorosis at all, no obvious deficiencies... This Deadhead is a clone of the one in the last grow, but the buds are quite different. Curiously, the calyx size and bud structure was dramatically more sativa-like in the last round, giving me reason to believe that the shorter light cycle from the last grow (11 on / 13 off) may contribute to more sativa tendencies being expressed, as DJ Short has hypothesized. Hmmm... The bud structure is much more traditional looking this round, and the calyx size isn't as pronounced (so far anyway!)

They should be about 3 -4 weeks from harvest.

X taking MJ porn pics again!
Thought I'd share with you what I have done the last 2 grows. Seems to work REALLY well, at least for me.
From the begining of veg I do not use the Zone or Solica, instead I feed them H202, Hygrozyme and Orca. They really build a huge root mass this way. Once I flip them I switch over to the Zone and Silica for Keeps the root mass I have going really white and ofcourse we know what the silica does. Just thought I'd pass that tid bit along :circle-of-love:

"Big Bang Auto" is from Greenhouse Seeds. I got mine as a freebie from the Single Seed Center. What a great freebie, huh? When I grew mine, I could only find one other completed journal for that strain, and for what it's worth, their yield was about the same as mine - over 4z. I can't recommend the strain enough for someone wanting to grow a good auto - its a dandy. Mine tasted like green apples! :yummy:

The funny thing is, the plant went through a lot of poor growing conditions along the way too. Due to a flooded basement, I had to put it next to a window for a few days during its veg phase, and in the closet at night. Shoot, there was a ton of freak stuff going on. More than once, early on, it was almost scrapped. I was really glad I didn't give up on it... Placed 2nd or 3rd in the POTM with it - not bad for an auto!

High on my future seed wants list, is the regular version of it. I miss it!

Hi A1! Really good seeing you out and about, I know you've been really busy lately.

Great tip! +rep for sharing that - I appreciate it, good knowledge for the toolbelt! Fewer floods in early veg was also something I found helpful for root development this last round, but I may want to try something like what you did at some point. :thanks:

I'm pretty jazzed on greenhouse seeds and strain hunters. I really want some of their strains. Would love to get Himalayan Gold and make Charas!

I love that they have those great grow videos for their strains. I liked the BBA a ton, and I'm really excited about Super Lemon Haze. Himalayan Gold sounds great! I had to look up Charas... have you made it before? Is it basically hashish?

Hey donpaul.p - what other auto's would you recommend?

I just grew out a couple of Himalaya Blue Diesel Feminized auto's from Short Stuff in soil... Out of 5 planted, 5 sprouted. Out of the 5, three were males. ( I kept them and saved pollen)

Out of the two females left, they both auto flowered at 18 hours of light per day in about 2 weeks.
They grew to slightly above 12 inches tall, but were quite bushy plants, and thick buds. They smell great, hints of sweet like blueberry/diesel and are sticky, but not as frosty as I've seen. That may be caused by the fact that I had two other plants from some kick ass sativa bag seed in with the auto's, and I turned the lights to 12/12 to throw the sativa's into flower. So the auto's grew about 2+ weeks at only 12 hours of light a day.

I'll be able to give a smoke report someday soon as soon as dry/cure is done.
I think it was worth it because they flowered so quick. But I'm going to try the strain Green -o- Matic Feminized from Greenhouse, but will grow them at a 18 hour day instead.

XL - following your lead - i'm going to try Big Bang, the pollen I saved from the Himalaya Blue Diesel males, I pollenated some of the buds on the bag seed plants, hopefully I'll get some good seeds, and I can't wait to try them if I do, to see if some are auto's.

Time will tell :)

Kind regards
