Winter Outdoor Grow 2009/2010

Do you think the yellow might be the plant taking N from the fan leaves while the roots develope? Are the clones heavily foliated? I didn't notice any pics of them. I prefer to keep the amount of leaf sort of low while the clones are living on stored energy until the roots grow. Clip bigger leaves by half, etc.
Good luck with the white flies, hopefully you noticed them before they got too heavy. damn critters sure like your plants.

checked back a couple of pages, those papaya's are looking much better

Yellowing of the leaves may be caused by plant using the N to develop roots. I just had those darn flies on the yellow leaves so it could be that or even a combo of both. Most leaves where taken off, The ones that remain had been cut in half and I am getting new growth so I think they will be fine but we will see.

The bugs sure do, I was pretty lucky last grow all the way through until the end with the worms. I was hoping that a late season grow would have fewer bug issues, guess I was wrong about that. But it is all a learning experience and not that I am glad I am having the issues but the more issues I do have and get control over the more I am learning and the better I get as a grower. So I take it all with a grain of salt. Thanks again, I am very glad you are around with such great comments and advise. I would rep you but they are being pretty stingy on letting me give them out..

Sonzor..Ahha. here you are!, Good catch on the bugs bro, glad ya got them under contol. Plants look really good in the pics. I prefer starting the seeds out directly into soil, just a preference. Just seems more natural to me, plus it eliminates having to transplant. Yours are looking green and healthy to be sure. Keep up the great work. I'm in!!!

I thought you'd probably be on top of the best handling of your clones, but I'd rather point out the obvious and be redundant than fail to mention something that might help.:goodjob: (thats partly because the obvious is all I know, lol)
Your outdoor temps don't get very cool I guess so there'll probably be critters year round. There might be some other plants that you can grow that are deterents, possibly.
I understand your approach, makes a lot of sense to learn to deal with possible issues when there is less at stake. I have faith in your ability to get the bugs under control.
Every day is a new lesson for me, great pasttime and produces good meds in the process. Not to mention the soothing effect growing has on ones state of mind.(critters excluded)
It's the thought that counts when it comes to reps, I've been trying to repeat reps on a few growers here and it takes forever to get far enough ahead. Whatever, I just enjoy seeing the progress folks make as the days pass.:nicethread:

Thanks so much GMT1975A glad to hear from you. Its nice to have you stopping in. I try to also start my seeds directly in soil and for the most part it works out. These durban poison seeds have just been an issue. I decided to try the paper towel method for the last four DP seeds and two popped so it could be dumb luck or the DP seeds are really fickle who know just glad I got a couple. Thank again..

Thanks for stopping back in and thanks for the advise on the cloning. I do appreciate it and I must be doing something wrong with the clones cause I really have not had much luck. And for me every day is a new lesson not only with growing but all parts of my life and I think thats what I enjoy about growing the MJ plants. There is just so much you can do to hurt and help the plant and I think it will be an endless pursuit and so many different avenues you can take. I think you could do this for years and years and try something new every time. It has turned into more of a passion for sure.. Thanks again for stopping in and you comments are greatly appreciated...

What's up bro just stopping in to see ur ladies and they are looking good!! congratz..I think I'm gonna try to clone a couple little 1's and see what happens. Do I need a rooting gel or can I just set them in a cup of water or dirt until they get roots?

:peace: & Love from the Glove

My 1st grow

Not that I am any expert but I do you rooting gel and put them in rock wool. I did read something yesterday. A this guy uses rooting get but just puts them in a cup full of dirt and does not need a humidity dome. I think I will try that next time. Anyway thanks so much for stopping in and you comments.

Hey Sonzor, I don't know how I missed out on the last page but, here I am again. I found that the seeds are ready or ripe when you can pinch out the seed from the pod easily, I crushed some that were obviously not ready but most of the seeds that are buried in the middle or under the growth are older and need help dropping cuzz of all the sticky leaf. I left mine in the bud till it dried. Good luck and thanks for checking out my new journal.

A little update....

Still nothing from the Durban Poison. I have started my last 4, but I don't really have high hopes for these. I think they are bunk. I don't want to bash the seed company but I cant even contact the company at this point. 3 out of 20 seeds just does not sound correct. Especially since all other seeds I have bought are germinating at pretty close to 100%. I don't want to bash the company so I won't give out the name but if you read the next sentence and figure it out good for you. It was a really popular band from Washington State who's singer is no longer with us. I hate to be negative cause this site is nothing but positive. I just want the buyer to beware. Enough of that.

I just got my seeds from the band in Washington State whose lead singer is no longer with us. I got 10 White Widow, and one "Mystery Seed".

All 11 sprouted with no problem whatsoever. I lost three over the weekend due to an excess heat problem in one of my rooms, but that was my fault.

Do you think that you might have just gotten a bad batch of seeds? Because EVERYTHING I got from this company sprouted easily!

Looks like you're rolling along with some nice plants and seedlings!

This winter grow experiment should be really interesting!

Durban Poison, yummy strain!

Thanks ss they are finally growing at a nice pace and I hope they do ok over the winter. At the very least I will have some nice clones for the summer. Thanks for stopping in...

Thanks so much. They are drying now and holy cow, they are some thick and very stinky buds, I am kinda sad there are seeds in them. I will try the pinch out method once they are a little more dry, 4 to 5 day I would think. Thanks for stopping in and you comments are greatly appreciated.

yayks,!! nice small plants with nice sized buds if we would look to proportions!!!:D

I am pretty amazed with the size and how thick these buds are and the smell, holy cow strong overpowering, amazing. I did use fox farm nutes since I was only going to use them for seeds and not smoke and I think it really made a huge difference. Thanks so much for your comments and stopping in.

Yes I am sure I got a bad batch. I know this happens my only concern is the company stopped selling these seeds and had some fem hybrid they are now selling. I just think they where old and they where trying to get rid of them. All others seeds I have that are from this company had a %100 germination rate. When I had 3 out of 10 pop from the first batch they did send me 10 more that had the same issue 2 out of 10, thats 5 out of 20 popped, 2 turned out to be male, One was very weak and slow and died in the summer and the 2 are just little babies so we will have to wait to see how those turn out. And they did send me some random seeds for my trouble which I think is kind of weak on there part. It takes along time to start a grow and you really don't want to wast your time and space on seeds you have no idea of there genetics, its sort of a waste of time. And is that not why we go to the seeds companies in the first place. If we did not care where our seeds came from we would all grow from bag seeds. I probably would not have used the random seeds except I am going to throw them out this winter to see what happens so no loss on time its just for fun if they turn out to be crap genetics, oh well not really a loss. I just think they got a little greedy with me and where trying to pass off some old seeds. Understandable I guess, why pass up some dollars. But they did lose a customer in the process, I mean I would be pretty stupid to order from them again when there are so many other companies out there that I may or may not have those issues with. Anyway, sorry to be so long winded. I try to stay as positive as I can. I just think its nice to have peoples opinions good and bad so when people make there decision its a informed one. Thanks so much for your comments and stopping in, it is much appreciated...

Whats your method for germinating the seeds?

straight to the dirt?
paper towel with humidity dome or plastic bag
growing medium?

Most of the time, I soak them overnight and put them into a cup about a quarter inch down in the soil with plastic rap over the cup held on by a rubber band. and placed in a warm dark place.

Most of the time this works great. The only time I have used the paper towel method was on the Durban Poison when I was not having much luck with them with my usual method. I don't really use this paper towel method cause I don't really like to touch the seeds after they sprout, it just seems to me that too much can go wrong. Thanks for stopping in...

Just thought I would throw this in here for a little filler.

This is my first attempt at producing seeds. It is a cross between Bubble Gum and Super Lemon Haze. It looks like I have a few seeds in there so I am pretty stoked about that. I had a couple that popped out during the drying and fell on the floor and they are looking nice a ripe. I have the rest of the seeded buds curing in a jar. I will let them cure for a week or so and then remove the seeds and see what I got. After that they will go in the fridge for a week or two to improve germination thanks to the advise of SettingSun. Then off we will go. Anyway here are some pics.

Nice job on the seeds sonzor, maybe never again get a bad batch from a seed bank. Good plan to let them rest a while in the fridge, said to make them more viable.
The bud is looking pretty decent also, seeds or not.

:goodjob:
I know I can't rep you yet but the thought is there.

oh yeah never enough pics.

Thanks Mmmmick, That would be nice not to have to order seeds, Thats just another worry I would not have to stress over. And the buds di look good nice and frosty, I think I probably have a ounce or so of it. I read the buds are pretty much useless for smoke but they do look so good I might have to give it a try. Thanks so much for stopping in and your comments are always appreciated...

hey sonzor, nice job on the seeds. i never heard about chilling the seeds before geminating. does keeping em in the fridge simulate early spring?
