Winging It In Winter By The Window: Soil Auto Grow

What Azi said!^^^

I'd wait till there's a few less new pistils- there's not many now, but a bit too many to call her "done"(imo)
Not long to go though- maybe 5 more days...
I went away for the weekend and returned to a bit of a jungle this evening.
Once they realize it's flowering time, that may be the case every evening for 2 or 3 weeks...
They're looking great, Carmen- healthy as can be going into flower!

Is that room in complete darkness from sunset to sunrise? If you turn on a light in an adjacent room you'll disrupt the flowering hormones you need.
It's not and I have no way of tenting them at all :( Does that mean that they won't flower? Oh no. Even outside there are streetlights. Is there any hope for a harvest at all, or should I be trying to re-home them?

You have a better chance outside with faint streetlights than inside with lights going on and off and it not being dark until you go to sleep. Constant low light is better than intermittent or brighter light. Darkness is best obv.

I think outside was what the folks who have flowered in spring before (something I still don't understand) were talking about.

Can't you hang some black plastic garbage bags from the light at night?

Depends on how you like the effect. More cloudy = a more 'up' high, more amber = more couchlock.
Thanks Azi. I know this in theory... it's the practiced eye and confidence to make the call that I doubt. I had a feeling that it would be another week but I need to hear it from you guys who have way more grows under your belt. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks Carcass. I thought another few days. I needed the confirmation.

Gosh, I hope my light situation isn't going to mess my plans up completely. I've just made a video and am going to post it as soon as I remember how to reduce the size.

It's really hard to tell from a video because the camera has a different sensitivity from reality or the what the plant sees.

That said, I'd get some pushpins and tack a sheet up in the doorway leading to the hall (or at the plant end of the hall) to keep that light out of the room, especially if it's not a constant source. On and off and on is much worse than on.

A  dark sheet if you can, or maybe black garbage bags clothes-pinned to the sheet or something.

You know, to really dress it up a bit. :laughtwo:

But seriously, the dark material will help absorb and block the light.

Sorry I am lagging a bit with responses here. I'll get some pushpins and sheeting tomorrow. Yikes! Thanks for pointing this out.
Looks dark enough to me.
They're right, you do have an awesome accent!
Thank you and thank you Mel. I think the camera is picking up more light than my naked eyes but rather than risk it, I will get some dark fabric and push pins.

Busy looking at options online atm...

Lmao! I think I will try to get some blackout fabric, the stuff for curtaining maybe.

I still think you're better off taping up some black garbage bags to the light frame. Take care of the window and the hallway in one fell swoop. :)
Light frame... I didn't get that part at first... do you mean construct a sort of tent?

Or that. Doesn't have the black garbage bag esthetic, but maybe you don't care about all that. :laughtwo:

And I would be remiss if I didn't suggest attaching the garbage bags with duct tape (instead of the clothes pins) for that true authentic feel.

Kind of, like a curtain hanging from the frame that you can lift up in the morning.
I can imagine a couple of variations of a frame, one would be drilled into the wall like a curtain rail, and the other would stand on the table. A standing one can't work because it is split level and would require some clever engineering, beyond my skill set. Unfortunately I can't drill into the wall to erect a curtain rail because it's not my place. Is that the sort of thing you envisaged, Shed? Heaven help me on this one... I reckon it's back to autos after this lol.

 You remembered the duct tape.
