Whippersnapper Re-Veg: A Learning Process, 1st Attempt

Sorry for the delay to those 2 people watching this thread lol, the pics continue:

Day 2 of re-veg light schedule (18/6), these pics were taken immediately after the 2 days of 24hrs light (to force veg from flowering) after culling the males:

Day 9 of re-veg:

I decided to up-pot to 5 gallon buckets (from 1 gallons, and not a moment too soon!) with a layer of coarse perlite at bottom, the soil consists of about 60% Fox Farm Frog, 15% coir, 15% peat moss, 10% sand... they seemed to really like the up-potting :)

Due to new hair growth on the youngest of the nodes, I decided to switch the light schedule back over to 24hrs ON at the advise of a few books I have on the subject. I figure a few days wasn't enough to revert them back to veg growth. Maybe they never fully convert back over, if anyone has re-vegged before please add your experience! They are showing heavy vegetative growth but there are new hair growth as it continues (just a few hairs, no actual bud growth is growing). The books I have suggest 7 full days of light to re-veg so I'm trying that.

Re-veg Day 12:

Due to the continued growth of new female hairs/pistils on the newer, younger growth (the ones that were not previously there during the previous light schedule of sexing and showed up many days after the light schedule was switched back to vegetative), I decided to switch the light schedule back to 24hrs on for the full 7 days. I want to ensure that its in full vegetative mode and believe I may have skimped on just doing a few days instead of the full week as recommended by several books and a few online posts I have read in the past.

This day marks the start of a FULL 7 days of continuous light. Although, they are big enough to just start budding anyway, I want to grow them a little bigger. They are now about 2 months old, all of which are vegetative growth excluding the 8 days of flowering to sex the plants (2 days 24hrs darkness and 6 days 12/12).

They are still showing strong vegetative growth, as you will see in the upcoming pictures but are still growing pistils and a *tiny* bit of trichomes around some leaf edges. I'm still feeding all on a vegetative schedule and only one seems to be showing nutrient deficiencies indicative of low amount of flowering nutrients (P & K). I assume this would give evidence to show that they are indeed in a veg growth cycle but I'm a bit puzzled as to why they are still growing pistils and cant seem to find anything about this. Any input from experienced members would be greatly appreciated.

Re-veg Day 16:

The plants are still showing strong vegetative growth but still are growing pistils on new nodes. One plant is showing some Magnesium/K deficiencies which leads me to believe that its still confused as to which cycle to start producing for and is somehow stuck on flower. Maybe? If that's possible. I'm thinking this is because I didn't re-veg with a full 7 days directly after switching back to veg cycle.

I've never seen these deficiencies so prevalent this early in a veg cycle and I'm assuming it has to be due to pistil development...although there still are no flowers, which is good. Some leaves are twisting which hopefully means that its in the process of converting back to veg growth fully, as I have seen in other sources.

Re-veg Day 26:

OK, admittedly, I've been neglecting them for the past week with not as many nutrients as they should have gotten because I've been very busy. They got some micro-nutrients and some Bloom (2 part) as much as I could which is maybe 3 times in between day 16 and 26. The soil I mixed drys out much quicker than what I regularly use and haven't had much time to keep up with it as much as I should be.

More twisting and deformities of the leaves along with some of the leaves growing 1, 3 and 5 finger leaves. I saw this on some other re-veg articles/posts/books and is supposed to be normal for when you switch back over to re-veg so I'm not worried much, hopefully its finally switching back over to veg fully now. We'll see. I'll keep it growing in veg for another month or two just to get it to fully switch over and see if it auto-buds on this veg light schedule.

I'm fighting the urge just to bud but don't want to abort the re-veg. Its a good learning experience and don't want to get weird, misshapen, stringy buds either. Also, I want it to grow out of the weird and twisting leaves to get it back to fully veg and then switch over after enough time has passed.

Have u done clones cut in flower stage??

My clone is finally looking like a veg plant, been weeks after I cut it in flower
It still shows pre flower hairs

I bet it will have hairs for a bit and get away from the 1leaf growth soon

Thanks for the experiment my friend

No, I did lollipop them which I forgot to add on the 26th day of reveg though, which may be adding to the stress of the plants. Well, not completely lollipoping, but I did take off the 2-4 lower branches and all the inner small new growth of internodes closer to the main stem.

Re-veg Day 31:

The first 2 pics (88, 89) show the nutrient deficiency getting worse on one plant. It seems to be only that plant affected so severely but a 2nd one is showing on some of the older fan leaves as well now. I didn't add nutrients enough between the last post and this one and I suspect that's why the 2nd plant (91, 92) is showing deficiencies (also the continued pistil development). The previous one (the first 2 pics), I assume has such a deficiency due to genetics (?) and possibly not fully switching over to veg due to not doing the full 7 days light initially.

90 shows the weird leaf development that makes me think they are finally switching over to vegetative.

Hope all is well in your world.

Is this grow still alive?

We would love to be updated with some pictures and info.

How about posting a 420 Strain Review?

If you need any help with posting photos, please read our Photo Gallery Tutorial.

I am moving this to Abandoned Journals until we get updates.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.

:Namaste:

Sorry, so much came up and I wanst able to get to the journal in time. I will be finishing this up hopefully within the few weeks.

Quick update:

-I decided to eventually switch over to bud sooner than planned (a few months after re-veg) which ended up being a great choice. It wasnt too soon and it was a real nice bud for all except one (which was doing terrible already a month prior due to it just not liking the light changes and just decided to slowly die apparently. The entire plant was 7g lol

-It got harvested and then made into bubble hash due to me not being able to properly dry or cure it either. I cut them down at aprox. the right time and hung them up for 10 days which was way too much. Hence the hash.

Rest of the pics coming within the next few days.

This pic shows a few holes in the leaves, any ideas what they are? I've been keeping a close eye on this one and it hasnt spread and there are no signs of any bugs/insects. I'm thinking over-fertilization or a deficiency? So far it hasn't spread on this plant either...
A passing bug perhaps, taking an opportune munch on its way to somewhere else?

A passing bug perhaps, taking an opportune munch on its way to somewhere else?

I believe it was actually nutrient burn or something, it never grew or expanded and in fact shrunk after that particular watering. Never spread to any others either.

I find it entertaining you failed to properly dry and cure your harvest while making ignorant comments about the subject. You are right. Some do it right some do it twice.. better luck next time guy.

Aw geeze, that comment I made must have really hurt your feelings for you to start going through my comments to see what you can rip me on. I'm sorry about that, guy, I hope this entertainment I've given you helps with that lack of confidence and fills that hole you have inside. In the mean time, go ahead and ponder about your future, because once you grow up big and strong and are able to move out of your parents house you will learn what it means to have to prioritize and manage your time. For some adults, there are more important things going on in their lives than properly curing a test crop that almost got abandoned anyway. Besides, the point you are completely missing is that I didnt start out this project looking for shortcuts on how to do what I wanted, I had to end up dedicating less time to it due to life issues that came up. I'm not sure how you can compare those two as being equal, but youre welcome to. Anyway, I hope you had a good nap and arent feeling so cranky today, Zonked.

Hey don't give up. I used to work 50+ hours a week sometimes it was hard to get to my girls but always made time. I was confused for a minute when I read re-veg because you flipped the cycle to flower to see the sex then flipped back to veg. If I'm not mistaken I believe that is "sexing" finding the sex of the plant. RE-veg would be taking a flowering plant after you've harvested only leaving a few nugs then cutting the root ball about half then putting it in new soil with fresh veg nutes and switching the cycle back to flower to keep that strain alive. I did this my first time years back was fun, stressful but worth it to keep a Top grade strain alive for a mama plant.

I hope all is well!

OK. So here is the rest of the journal now that I have more than 2 mins to spare.

So I left off where I was wondering about the nutrient deficiencies that started to show and were honestly worrying me. Maybe I could have gone a few more months in veg as I had intended to do but I didn't have the time to keep an eye on the deficiencies much less attempt to correct them. I then decided to cut right over after the below pics.

I took these pics to show some details of where the plants are at right before switching over to flower light cycle (for the 2nd time in order to finish the plants). The continued pistil growth was also worrying, all plants after a month or so of re-veg started to show nutrient deficiencies that are common for late budding in the veg cycle. I tried for a week or two to compensate but it wasn't going for it and I switched the light cycle. That, with life issues, necessitated me to switch to bud.

DSCN1940 - I believe this plant was 2 weeks into showing deficiencies. Try as i might nothing seemed to help. At one point it started showing nutrient toxicity so I stopped and flushed. The deficiencies continued. I wasn't sure if it would make it another month or two anyway. Strange.
DSCN1941 - Deficiencies showing, leaves dying, this is the other side of
DSCN1942 - Weirdly developed leaves. Deficiencies showing, leaves spindling, etc. Same as DSCN1940, DSCN1941, DSCN1942
DSCN1943 - Nutrient deficiencies at bottom and middle creeping up. Weird leaf finger counts, etc. Showing multiple deficiencies for about a week or two now, so a lot of the brown spots appeared in a week.
DSCN1944 - Same plant at DSCN1945, weird leaf finger counts, pistil growth, etc.
DSCN1945 - Just a nice shot. The one plant that seems to be holding out on sickness/nutrient deficiencies.
DSCN1946 - Same basically as DSCN1947 below (+ you can see the pistils growing at the internodes...in retrospect, much, much less than a flower cycle. I felt like these pistil growths were sucking nutrients (P&K) at the wrong time and after a few weeks of trying to compensate it was clear it might not work):
DSCN1947 - Twisting, mottled leaves that are showing deficiencies creep up to the top. Leaves are also dying, ahead of schedule and suddenly. Plants dont seem to be handling the light switch real well a month+ into it. Leaves have various amounts of fingers, some even and others odd. One has 1 finger. I like to think its the middle one.
DSCN1948 - Drooping leaf tips, not too worried about it along with some light leaves on the newer top growth. Not a big deal. You can see some leaves have 3 or 5 fingers instead of 7. Happened when the light switched from bud/flower back to veg (for 2nd time, re-veg)

PS: @Rucifer999 I was actually wondering about that, there seems to be conflicting use of the word depending on where you look. Is there anywhere that distinguishes between the two (and super cropping, etc) because its hard to gather info when people seem to call re-vegging (or whatever) multiple names.

This is actually a continuation of the previous post. Same thing, these are pics of where the plants are at right before switching to the final budding light regimen.
Not too much here, I just needed to take pics because the frequency i had been taking pics to document this process had really dropped off and a week at least had elapsed. Maybe 2 or 3, I honestly cant remember (I wasn't even high those weeks!). I do remember thinking it had been too long since I last took pics of the grow room.

Anyway, real quick description of notable pics:

Strange leaves, new growth was STILL growing crazy leaves a month after switching back over. Weird lag time. Maybe that was an issue...I wish I could have isolated a plant and done an experiment. :(
DSCN1962.JPG

This plant actually had quite a bit of pistil growth. As said before, I tihnk the pistil growth was the reason for the nutrient deficiencies...they just kept growing and despite it being in a veg cycle, it kept pulling the other nutrients that are typically used in flower cycle in order to grow them. The leaves are also showing some trichomes on the leaves. :)
DSCN1965.JPG

Call Dr. Greenthumb, ITS DYYYINGGGG!!! Fan leaves are not-so-slowly dying from the bottom up and doesn't seem to stop.
DSCN1967.JPG

DSCN1968.JPG

Weird spindly leaf. Its normal for this to happen when you switch back to re-veg and the plant gets stressed converting from flower back to veg.
DSCN1970.JPG

More tomorrow.

At this point, the lights have been switched over to flower (bud) for about a month.

Again, obviously didn't have the time to get more pics in between, but this is a week or three before I started plucking the buds off the plants. Because I was pressed for time at harvest still, I trimmed the fan leaves off all the plants one day and the next started taking buds off by cutting stems. As you can see in a later post, I had to cut one plant entirely and just hang as is for a few days. It still dried to a crisp because of the low humidity and high temps within about 4 or 5 days.

Some quick info on the pics:

This pic may have actually been a few weeks into flower. Still very green.
DSCN1974.JPG

Still very green, beginning of budding cycle.
DSCN1975.JPG

Same
DSCN1976.JPG

About a month in, getting frosty! I was shocked that the nutrient deficiencies didnt seem to be continuing. The plant seemed to be responding to the light cycle and nutrients (I switched over to a bloom nute regimen).
DSCN1987.JPG

Blurry but frosty. Bud thickness picking up, not bad for such an abused plant. I wasnt sure if it would give anything but little popcorn dust-speck buds. This fucker pumped out quite a bit of trichomes. It just started exploding around week 2 or 3, I guess it was just waiting to start pumping out trichomes....
DSCN1988.JPG

Deficiencies basically the same on the leaves as they were 2-3+ weeks ago. Strange. You can also see the Morning Glory flower in the background. :)
DSCN1989.JPG

Budding from the side. Not bad at all. More than I had expected.
DSCN1990.JPG

Blurry close-up. Maybe it was the frosty buds that wouldnt let the camera auto-focus get right! :)

About a week or so later it was time to harvest. I didn't harvest them all at the same time, it was over about 4 days and most of the cutting of leaves was done before cutting the branches off the plant.

I have to say all but one turned out better than expected. Ill be turning all of the plants into bubble hash.
