Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

High everybody! :passitleft:

Start off the day with the Devils carnival 16 days into flower. Well we clearly have a male and female plant. Sprayed 4 branches with the STS and now I'm thinking we didn't have to do that much. Sacs everywhere and they showed up a lot faster than the colloidal silver. With this they didn't even try to be a female.

In 5 weeks we will have a ton of seeds. I'll have more pictures up later tonight of the rest of the girls. They all got a GE drench last night and are looking great today.

:roorrip:
Sorry I haven't been following too closely, what's this STS you guys are using? I've been curious about making feminized pollen for a while.

I'll let Nis answer you on that. We started talking about it around post #1838 if you want to read up on it. There is a lot of info, and it's spread out throughout the rest of the journal. So it could be time consuming to read it all. I bet Nis gets on here, paraphrases it for you, and it'll all make perfect sense.

Have a great day!

STS or Sodium ThioSulfate is used to "reverse" the sex of a female plant. What it does when sprayed on the plant is blocks the ethylene, the chemical produced by a plant to make female Flowers, so it will then allow male flowers to form. Previously we used colloidal silver to reverse the sex of a dark devil Auto and it worked great. But with this method, it worked flawlessly with a lot less effort.

On Sunday November 27th I did a basic write up on how we did this this, so if you go back to that it explains on how to do it. I'd tag a link here but my links never work while on my mobile. I can explain more in depth if needed though.

Breeding room update STS application

Today is flip day for the devil's carnival. So with that we have the first silver thiosulfate (STS) application. The recipe we used was from heirloom and it is the one he used and was very successful with. Make sure to have gloves on when handling these chemicals and we wore long sleeves. Use no metal tools either for the silver. We used plastic spoons, glass, and a piece of paper on the scale.

Here is everything you will need:

Silver nitrate
Sodium Thiosulfate pentahydrate (pentahydrate use 1.56 times more than anhydrous version)
Distilled water

First up: 1g silver nitrate put into 60mL of water. Stirring. Should dissolve in about 10 seconds.

DSC_015032.JPG

Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate - 6.25g into 240mL of water. This needs to be a 4:1 ratio to the 60ml silver nitrate solution.

DSC_015128.JPG

So in total:

1g silver nitrate in 60mL of water...check
6.25g sodium thiosulfate in 240 mL water...check

So now we have our solutions. Separate they can store for years in a cool dark place (light degrades the silver). But now we want to take enough to do our sprayings. Mixed together it'll last the 2 weeks we need it to. Now we will mix it at 4:1 with the solution and then 5:1 with distilled water.

We took 10 ml of silver nitrate solution and rapidly stirred it into 40 ml of the sodium thio solution. Once that was mixed it was then stirred into distilled water at a 5:1 ratio. Since we had 50 ml solution, we mixed it into 250 ml of water. BAM! Time to spray our victim.

She has acclimated to her new home and is looking quite healthy. Starting to look more like her carnival mother everyday.

When you go to spray this solution, it is advised to put news paper down. Well we just had a large 2'x2' box that she fit into to spray.

DSC_015825.JPG

We didn't want to her to be all pollen so we marked the branches to be sprayed and put a bag over the rest to protect them.

DSC_015930.JPG

Sprayed like she had mites. All over. As Heirloom said, "If I had a vat of it, I would dunk the whole plant."

DSC_016034.JPG

She will have 2 more days like this a week apart. A total of 6 applications. After the first application today, around noon, and the final one will be just after I post this. Once this is done she will be in 12/12 and in 4 weeks we should have pollen. On spray days...twice a day. No direct light. The carnival reveg that will be pollinated also will stay for another week in 18/6. So when pollen flies, it'll be prime pollination time.

I hope this helps anyone that wants to dip their toe into breeding or to just make fem seeds. If you want to go the colloidal silver route, you can and we did with success. Just wanted to try out what the pros use.

Everyone have a great night. Bud pictures in a bit. Been hitting the hookah this afternoon. :hookah::bigtoke:

:bump:

Ain't it funny the breeder says 1.3lbs max yield on these autos I just ran and I don't think I got 2 bags off each plant and you got 4 off one twice as much as me I hate all of you!!!!.lol seriously though how can there be such a big difference from breeder info to what we're getting?

Ohioboy can't stop!! Ohioboy With Fast Buds - Let's See How Fast Exactly
Usually for their estimates they use square meters. So in a 39" X 39" square you could pull that much. Atleast for photoperiod plants that's what they do. The cheese we had over the summer was about that size and got 14 oz. Off of it and they said 450 per m2.

For this reason I want to run an auto in DWC and see what happens. See if we get closer to the number they saw. Or try one in a 15 gallon pot and see. I personally think 5 gallons for an auto is enough but doing experiments will tell.

Psst Nis, did you see that the lemon venom plant has been born?? She's so cute! I'll try to get pics later, my phone was upstairs when I checked on them.

I pulled 4.5 zips off my most recent auto in dwc. Thats a high mark for the 3 autos ive grown. Im back to photos this time around but i intend to go back and try to beat my record.
Canna, did i read you have a baby lemon venom? I got a few as freebies so i will be watching to see what can be done with them.

why the commitment to autos?

i probably missed something.

just curious

(does it allow you to skip a veg area, thus only having 1 garden? I guess this makes sense, as with traditional setups/plants you really need both veg and flower)

maybe i answered my own question lol

did i already ask this like 8 pages ago too?

i forget most things.

You can leave the autos under 18/6 light and just pop them in and out as they come and go. Or you can grow photo period plants under 12/12 lights, some folks are doing that here too. Cheers man!

Since there are two of us, we decided that Nis takes care of the photos, I take care of the autos.

Autos flower when ever they want, but don't take as long to grow as a photo. You get more yeild over a longer period of time with the photos. Autos take less time, and get less of a yield, but it's nice to have a variety of smoke to smoke while we wait for the photos.

How was that answer? Clear as mud? Lol! Have a great day bud!

You forgot to mention that when growing autos one can get the occasional dwarf. I've had 2 small ones out of 6 I've grown. But they are fun to grow and help to fill in when some variety is what you want.

Tonight I took some pictures of the Devils carnival. This is one beautiful plant. Has had no yellowing from the STS or from any other factors. Other than the slight clawing, she is one healthy plant. Day 19 since flip.

Under some T5s.

The pollen sacs are in abundance and look like they are ready to pop.

Then on the female side of things they are looking great. One of the traits I was was hoping to stay from the DDA was the purple....well they are purple!

Kinda odd seeing a male and female on the same plant....I guess we better get used to it.

Work is starting to get back to normal so I should start having some extra time to get on here and do a proper update. In less that 60 days we will be on white Sandy beaches...instead of white snow. Much needed time away. Everyone have high night.

Doing some bubble bomb dabs tonight and mixing in some cheese joints.
