On Thursday night, the Discovery Channel's controversial reality show "Weed Wars" became even more controversial when a father administered medical marijuana to his five-year-old son in an attempt to ease his seizures.

According to "Weed Wars," Jason has tried to soothe his son Jayden's hour-long seizures since he was four months old. But after finding little success from traditional medication, Jason desperately turned to Harborside Health Center, a medical marijuana dispensary in Oakland and the focus of the Discovery Channel reality show.

"I'm not trying to get my son high," said Jason on the segment. "I'm trying to cure my son's seizures."

In the episode, Jason administered a tincture of medical cannabinoid (CBD) orally with little resistance from Jayden. The CBD tincture he used was non-intoxicating, meaning that Jayden should not have felt any side affect or high.

But with loaded controversy surrounding the use of medical marijuana, critics are sure to be outraged anyway.

Since airing this fall, "Weed Wars" has aimed to shed light on the medical marijuana industry and dispel the myths and stereotypes that might surround it. The medical marijuana war is one that Harborside Health Care has battled for years, and the center drew national attention when it was hit with a $2.4 million tax bill from the IRS last October.

"What kind of drug trafficking organization actually files a tax return? None of them do," said Harborside CEO Steve DeAngelo to The Huffington Post. "The very fact that we filed a tax return and told the IRS all the details of what we are doing proves we are not a drug trafficking organization."

Harborside is certainly testing the limits of public acceptance with the recent episode, but DeAngelo claims that establishing trust is essential to the cause. In an article titled "Don't Call it Pot" in the New York Times, DeAngelo explained that maintaining a safe and legitimate environment is the cornerstone of the organization. "We want to make it safe, seemly and responsible," he said. "If we can't demonstrate professionalism and legitimacy, we're never going to gain the trust of our citizens," said DeAngelo. "And without that trust, we're never going to get to where we need to go."

Did everyone see that Jayden's seizures stopped for 4 days after being administered CDB?

Ok? They stopped a little boy from having life threatening seizures...so what's so controversial about saving a little boy"s life?

My God! What the hell are these "nay-sayers" in favor of anyway? Killing kids? Just makes me sick!!!!!!

I vow to change this way of thinking until the day I die!!!!

Really, What kind of people are these?!!!

Controversial?...My big ole butt!!! I'm pissed!!!

Jim, I guess you could merge mine with yours...right?

Please do if you feel the need to only have one "weed wars" thread

Sorry for hijacking this show from you brother I can see you had this one in mind for you and that's totally cool by me bro...Ok? Mad respect! :Namaste:

I have been hearing a lot about this show. I don't have the Discovery channel but will be looking at it on Youtube. They say people fear what they don't understand but what about when they don't even make the effort to understand? I just hope someone doesn't try to take his son away from him for giving him the cdb.

Well said sista' girl! :bravo:

There are lot's of kids getting this kind of help in the MMJ states, so they would have to take ALL these kids away from their folks if that were the case...I would think? I don't think they could just target one out of thousands...would/could they? That would not be cool at all!!!

I wasn't aware if the state was medicinal or not. And would it really matter in the case of child welfare? I mean we would see it as aiding the child but they would see it as abuse in their small closed minds. They would prefer the child take man made medicines that over time will take their toll on that child's liver or who knows what else. MJ was used way back in the day before there were pills being handed out. If it was good enough for people back then why can't it be good enough for us today?

If state agencies - either the DA or Child Welfare -IF they decided to make a stand, then they would go after a big, prominent target first, so YES, the dad is taking a risk. For example, harborside is the target of an IRS audit citing section 280e (?)....did ALL Oakland dispensaries receive a similiar, simultaneous audit notice?

The biggest key for the Dad, and Harborside is did the dad obtain a medical recommendation for the child first? Not sure if I saw that on the show...

Yes, he did get a rec. :thumb:

That's just it, he was taking pharma meds, he said they weren't even working because he was having at least one seizure a day but later in the show, they showed that after they gave him CBD he was seizure free for 4 days so...y'all tell me what's wrong with a little boy getting help, if only for 4 day's?

The dad even said he saw such an improvement, the little boy was acting like a normal kid again... truly touching/powerful/compelling stuff, if you ask me. :Namaste:

Check one for the home team! :bravo::bravo::bravo::goodjob::welldone:
