Humidity - the lack thereof - is what kills my cuttings.

It's like night and day. In the summer with solid 50 RH I can root cuttings just sitting in a cup of water.

Have you tried bagging them? They really need a lot of humidity.

That made me laugh out loud man. I'm driving to work right now, the wipers are going so fast I'm worried they're going to blow apart and I can barely see through the waterfall to dodge all these giant puddles (while staring at my phone of course ftw) . Picture a movie set after they yell 'turn on the sprinklers!' It's been raining and raining and raining day after day for long as I can possibly remember Rained all last summer too. The floodwaters surround my cabin and grow-room. Rh in the grow is in the 90's except where I run a dehumidifier in the bloom room.
Here's a graph I found online of the local humidity index.

* that drop was when it froze and the rain stopped for a while before resuming

Having said that- you totally could be right. Maybe those clones need more - just made me laugh when I read the word 'humidity'.
I'll try the baggie thing. Humidity or not- it seems like a great way to make a controlled environment that will keep out the hordes of hungry horny pythium zoospores beating themselves against the sides, frantically flagellating their flagella.

Hahaha! They'll just smoke a J and wait man.... infinite flagellating flotillas of em. :)

2017 was a pretty crappy year all around, mostly worldwide, not so bad here at 420. 2018 HAS to be better!

I'm glad to know it wasn't just me thinking that. It seems like Chinese astrology is usually uncannily accurate. Let's just say -they were not wrong about the Year of the Cock...
Of which there are only two days left!
And on that note-
Roots!

:woohoo: Here we go. :slide:

Oh I totally clone topless (teehee!) in those conditions.
Put your thermometer right on the mat with a small piece of plastic underneath. I sometimes use a food thermometer down into the medium.

Of course, this doesn't work with us growers living in more arid climates. ;-) Sue's baggie method is the best for me, when Spring comes. Don't get enough ambient energy in Winter for successful cloning.

It's going to be a while before I try cloning again, as I'm at the tail end of flowering for the Jock Horror Autos, and have a foursome of AK 47 x Durban Poison growing for seed. (need to build up my seed stock).

That leaves me with a mother White Widow Lady and her two clones, and two vegging AK 48 clones, which I'll up-pot when I have room, and trim to keep a semi-even canopy before the switch.

It's not hard to keep a perpetual grow going, esp when one inherits plants from family. :thumb:

Cloning is something i really miss when it's not working. Plants in the veg room getting bigger and bigger, flower room getting emptier and emptier. I abandoned a bunch of strains cause I couldn't get clones. Malawi, Golden tiger, Mama Thai, Critical Cheese, Peyote Purple. Yeah I've got seeds- but I'm just going to want to clone them too before flowering. Seems like when I don't- I flower out ones I wish I had.

Notes- the Clone King thing arrived yesterday and I set it up- feb 15.

In function it's the exact aeroponic thing I made a few years back which failed to get me any clones. But this is way slicker looking. I put it in a different room cause of the zoospores...

Goodbye year of the cock :thumb:
Here's hoping the Dog will treat us well.

Worlds oldest seedling is putting out something that like a bit like leaves.

I assume your humidity is high enough not to need to cover the clones. ;-) I tried a DIY cloner that operates the same as yours and I got nasty water and withered clones. Even changing the water regularly didn't help.

heya friend,, cheers to ya

just wanted to relate my latest cloning system,, briefly,, and it can be brief because their aint much to it

all similar to the others, and like you, i have tried em all, least a bunch of ways,,, so

i plant the clone in a solo cup with premoistened soil, as normal,, all good

then as a dome, which for me and my low humidity is essential, i use another solo cup with just the top lip cut off with scissors , and it snuggles down oh so nicely inside the clone holding cup,, and stays put.

the end

since using this system i have been running about 80% success,, and, of course, i always take two cuttings of any plant i want to retain,, like i need to tell you

i have not lost a strain in a while but came very close just now with losing a og kush,, i had the first two clones fail and took two more from the plant a week into flower and one took,, so i just saved it

yay for me

cheers agin friend,, karma sent fer all yer endeveours,, nice to chat agin,,

oh, btw,,

High humidity is what I got AK. There's doubt about many things around here, but no doubt about that. And anyway, from what I've read, aero cloners aren't normally supposed to need domes.
I abandoned the dome thing years back because I always had problems with cuttings festering and rotting. I wasn't around enough to baby them and open the lid once in awhile to give them fresh air. The only reason that I can see in my environment to use a lid is because it makes it way easy to keep a steady and even moisture level without ever topping things up.
But- because of this I'm liking the looks of the ones in baggies. So maybe I'll revisit the dome idea, Nivek. I haven't messed with them at all and they are still at the perfect moisture level. Which is obvious I guess- cause they're sealed in bags. Maybe they'll fester and rot too. We shall see.
Pardon the lack of proper updates here- it's still my mission to tidy up this journal. Have been working all day every day and regressed into some sort of a shambling zombie-like creature which only exists to 'get the job done'. There's an end in sight, but only viewable with binoculars.
Is it just my imagination or has 420 gotten much quieter since I was last around? Seems like threads start up and very few people come along to post on them.
Almost every social gathering point I know around my parts has gotten quieter because of F$&@book. I wonder if that's what's happening to 420 too somehow. As one of many I know who isn't interested in reading that particular book, it's very weird being outside looking in. Like 'everyone' has an invisible means of communication. Oh well- I think I'll keep it this way. Outside looking in is kinda my comfort zone.

I've been doing the bag thing. Try to keep the leaves from touching the bag. Don't spray. Keep the leaves dry. Water sitting on the plant will trigger the rot.

I think your impression of traffic at 420 really is just a reflection of your involvement. I don't think the numbers are down. If one checks the metrics, one sees normal fluctuations (oddly, they seem to follow growing seasons), but not much other than the normal ebb and flow.

That's a relief Tead. I totally understand what you mean about the reflection/feedback cycle - which is really interesting in general, and a big part of the crack addiction thing that can happen here sometimes. But it wasn't my involvement I meant. I guess it was just a series of coincidences then. Seems like looking back on the last month or two most of the threads I've visited or posted on have stagnated or died, with lots of threads left hanging- leaving me wondering where everyone is. But like any sort of mirror, appearances can be deceiving. I was going to look at the metrics- but can't find where they are stored anymore.
But there's been a lot of changes and random fluctuations in the hive since I started hanging out here and I know an old geezer like you must have seen many more.

Whoops just saw your post afterwards AK.
Ahh yeah- Olympics. I don't have a tv. ;)

TV,,, ewwww,,, seriously,, the root (rot) of alll evil

I have also noticed, perhaps a changing of the guard, the change in members memberships,, possibly,,.. I think the brass has noticed it too,, maybe the reason for the shakeup comming down the pipes

Perhaps the old group you visited with has moved on, or some of it, and a new group is forming,, i think this is the situation here. Many of the members members from months passed have discappeared,, like you did for a while

Even this thread,, which was wildly popular,, epic even, has trickled to a few remaining responders,, like me

Shite happens, things change, go figure

Anyhooo, sure glad for this thread myself,, near my only connection left to y'all

So,, cheers, peace, and karma sent friend

WC: We're all watching the Olympics. That's why we aren't posting that much.

They've had ongoing problems with the mobile app not posting photos, among other complaints. That had a hand in the quieting as well, and it should change today with the update.

Weaselcracker, you were resistant to the idea of journalling to begin with, to my recollection. :battingeyelashes: I'm not surprised that you discovered you're still more comfortable without one running manic, but oh my goodness, do we love to sit in the room and visit with you my friend. Plus, this is where nivek is most likely to check in.:hug::hug:

I swear nivek, we need a cannabis/Lego challenge. Just a fun thread for members to post their own Lego pictures with our buds. What do you think? If I start one, do you think they'll come? :battingeyelashes:

Heya sue,, peace and karma sent to you Sue,, you are truly the heart and soul of 420mag

I will absolutely play Lego with you. Nice to have some 'fun' with a camera and y'all.

You build it, and i am there with a hammer and nails to participate, pontificate and possibly perpetuate the possibilities inperpetuety,,,,, perhaps

I am not even looking up the spelling of those monster words, I hurt now

Heres lookin atcha friends

I'm of at least two minds about being on 420 as much as I used to be. I miss the creative outlet and the online friendship, and the opportunities to learn how to grow better. And my plants do grow way better when they know they're going to be shown off regularly.
I shudder sometimes when I think of the hours I sometimes just surfed around endlessly when I really could have been doing something better. Not always easy to find that balance.
Circumstances changed. I had a sort of pointless caretaker/watchman job for a while that gave me a bunch of enforced downtime.
A whole lot of other circumstances have come and gone in the last year. I'm sure that applies to most of us and explains why some have bubbled right out of the soup pot here.
Right now I'm just working on some more demanding/time consuming work.
Starting to think work is a dumb-ass way to make money.... But the work is for a worthy goal- mine and others- and it will pass.
I will be back on here sometime more when the time's right. There's just not always time in life for everything.
Late for work! Here I go. :passitleft:
