It was interesting what Homer Simpson said on some other mega crop thread today. That he doesn’t usually feed higher than 5 g a gallon in flower. I will try that - feeding very low. Though I feel like I already sort of have. Usually not quite that low though.

I’m using rainwater so basically RO, and peat. Tried it with and without calmag.

Anyway I’ll run some tests in a couple weeks once the clones get a bit bigger.

A few minutes with the grain grinder and I have more than enough flour. Aromatic.... Even enough left over to make a delicious gluten-free cake for my girlfriend next time she’s being annoying

Hell yes. They’re glowing red within a minute. Shards shooting all over the place. Easy to crumble after that.

Hey @bluter
:passitleft:
Did you run your mega crop through this , I see a lot of people talk about the "balls "

test the rainwater. might have something to it. i'm not real sure why you even want to grow with mc. you're pretty close to organic. and i really haven't seen any issues with what you're doing already.

if i had the circumstances i'd probably grow closed loop organic. but that's a dream.

i wanted to feed under 6 this run. i always wind up hot. i'm right at 6, running 8.5g / 5.5LRO actual, fed daily.
i always wind up hot. i been at 7g / gal on previous runs. never really had issues, but did some trouble mid flower.

also found mc hard to dial back once up there. i kept this run leaner and like it more so far. we'll see how it plays as i hit mid flower and beyond. they did not look as good as i like going in.

Thanks bluter. Yeah I’m keen to try it just lighter all the way through. If I hadn’t seen Vetsmoke’s Gorilla Glue I think I would’ve already completely moved on. Gave MC a good try. Now I’m just sort of at the post-mortem stage.

Ha ha. I’m doing the dishes right now..... hoping to get away with having run oyster shells through the grain grinder but definitely would get the evil-eye if the gf found mega crop in there. Pretty rotten stuff.

I find the balls dissolve just fine. I can see them in the bucket and I just stir until they’re gone.

not so much the dissolving but the different amounts you get in a scoop full
especially when mixing small amounts

i just toss mc in the feed water the day before. don't even bother to mix til i ph and feed.

i'm not anal about my water measuring either. it's always at least a couple 100 ml out either way.
plus i just toss the new stuff in with what didn't get used last feed. and i might be a tenth or two out on grams as well.

so what.

nothing works exact in mc. it's best to relax and get over it. then it seems to work monster. :p

Can't you guys mix up a larger quantity of your MC? Not a super size or anything, but the more you mix, the lesser of a chance there will be for error or deviation, then just draw as needed from the mixed up sauce, like maybe a 5 gallon pail or something.

don't over work yourself ... it's only a little weed :)

maybe part of my approach is due to the fact i was forced to simplify. i had to find a system that would lend itself to having another person nurse them through flower without my day to day involvement. and be simple enough for them to understand with a minimum of equipment. and no dirt. and not much weight. i wasn't left with much... :cheesygrinsmiley:

i didn't really want to learn or grow hempy style, and i wasn't real sold on mc either.
life gives you lemons ... and now tinctures and extracts and edibles and topicals and delicious smoke ..

sure. but i really don't find it necessary.
it depends a bit on media. it makes no difference in anything passive.

forced to simplify
For three years, till recently, I lived in a different town 100 km away on weekdays. I only visited this grow on weekends. Being a single parent at the time, I had one or two late nights per week after the kid went to sleep, to throw some food and water at the plants, do all grow maintenance, harvest and trim all night and try to get an hour or two sleep.
Seat of the pants is the way I’ve always done it and MC seemed like it might fit. The idea is to be able to go back to weekly plant visits at least when I want to.

i honestly think organic soil grow is better under this scenario. hands down. water only.
in a close running with a proper super soil btw. same thing water only.

mc soil / hp promix type grow is second best. it can edge out a super soil on issues long term too.
i can see advantages / disadvantages with all.

i taught my pops to get plants through flower. mc helped him to hone in on watching the plants and asking me questions when he had doubts. now he rarely asks and just does. he makes the call to go to daily feeds on his own now, and made the call to get to 6g /gal, but stay under. :)

it's not a super nute. just simple. on the basic nute there's only two things you can do. more. less. duh.
the rest is up to you.

Thanks. I hear you and I agree I should be doing organics. Lots of local ingredients too it’s just a learning curve and ‘new learning curves’ don’t usually get me as excited these days. Busy with lots of the regular stuff.

I used to look up super soil threads and see all sorts of recipes and lists of amendments, only to figure out I couldn’t source stuff like the Brazilian three-spotted newt tongues and the yak dung extract here. Places like Build-a-soil wanted hundreds in shipping - same as the high brix kit, etc.

But things have changed a lot in the last year or two in Canada and I’m sure I’m running out of excuses in the organic dept.

Excited about making my own peat mixes. Now I just need a volcano so I can get more perlite.

perlite is cheap and plentiful.

$30 bucks for 110ltr bale at any outdoor landscape or garden supply all day long. it's going on 3 yrs and i just opened my second bale .. :cheesygrinsmiley:

There’s no perlite here to speak of. There’s one store that sells little bags about 10 inches long for $15 each. But there is a guy who sometimes drives south in the spring with a truck and does orders, so I’m gonna try to hook up with him if he goes this year.

i'll have to take a pic of mine. you'd weep. no one landscapes out there..?

a quick google shows the stuff delivered at $45cdn for the same bale i get. i can't linky. pretty sure my stuff comes from edmonton ... there's usually a shipping sticker lol

i buy it local at a garden supply place that carries hydro and other grow stuff. their main business is lawn care and underground sprinkler systems. the best hydro shops aren't even hydro shops.

they're the guys that told me about jacks and mc and other dry nutes. they don't even sell the stuff, and weren't trying to make a buck.

I live in a designated ‘remote area’.
Maybe a pic would better show the situation.
So I looked for perlite in Edmonton just now and went with the first one that came up. ‘ Exclusive shipping across Canada‘ right below the name. A 4 cubic foot bale is $45 so I ran one bale through checkout.

Think I should go with the express option?

This is pretty much the story with all shipping to here. Sometimes you get lucky and find cheap shipping but never on large bulky items like this. Many places won’t ship here, period. Amazon for example is completely out of the question because they charge 200-500% of the product cost for shipping on the items they will ship here- and about 80% of their stuff does not ship to this location.

wth are you ? arctic circle. 90% of all canadians live within 300 km of the US border. true fact.

i'm not afraid to drive too. i live in the west and worked with a touring show production crew. 800 km overnight with teardown and set up was a reality. and we did northern stuff as well.

i also worked in the mountains and drove supply to remote alberta hostels for a couple years. that was fun. no running water / electricity. communication by radio only at pre-selected times. did back country snowboarding from a couple.

we'd get stuff shipped to banff / jasper/ lake louise / rocky mountain etc no worries. then pick up there. was the same as shipped to calgary or edmonton. businesses there would accept the stuff on our behalf. it's part of the business model.

I’m just in an out-of-the-way nook. It’s complicated to explain. ....:D. You can’t just drive to here.
I grew up in the Yukon mostly. Grew up out in the bush by fly-in as a kid, and lived and worked in all sorts of bush camps all over the north BC and Yukon in my younger and not so younger days.

I’m glad they all live down there because it keeps here a lot nicer. But you can’t have it all. I really don’t mind one bit. It does take more effort to source some things, and sometimes I have to attempt to explain myself when my Internet or phone isn’t working and people on the other end say stuff like ‘why don’t you just go down to the local Starbucks and use their Wi-Fi....’ or ‘Just go grab one at Walmart’- stuff like that. :laughtwo:
