Watering and fertilizing question

The perlite helps it dry faster? It would seem like it would retain water but I guess it's worth a try on the next batch.
You'd think something like sand would help it drain faster and let it breath more.

What will happen when a plant is left in a pot that is too small? Will they always try to grow maximum potential and die from root suffocation, or will it adjust to container size and become a "bonsai" ? I'm growing in 2 gallon pots as an experiment.

Depending on how long you veg in the same 2 gallon pot you might be ok.
I’m flowering a clone in a solo cup that hasn’t become root bound.
Just a bonsai like you mention.
It’s in a window so it grew slowly.
Under led lights it might be a little worse.
Btw this is an old thread and you might not get a reply from the OP.

It will continue to grow until the roots are so thick that it becomes "root bound". It will only be able to get so much out of a limited amount of soil so the above soil portion can only get so large. Most root bound plants do look and act like they are not healthy.

or will it adjust to container size and become a "bonsai" ?
Bonsai is a growing method that involves both deliberate root pruning and pruning of the top part of the plant to match the amount of root growth. Properly done the plant remains healthy and can live for a years. Some Bonsai trees are over a 100 years old.

Want a real fun experiment. Try growing in a 1 gallon or 1.25 gallon pot using a natural dirt & compost based
soil mix with minimal amounts of fertilizers and see if you can get the plant to produce an ounce at harvest:) after drying and curing.
