Thanks heaps Stealth and King John your praises mean a lot to me! In hind sight a few more days veg would have got me a nice height above the screen but TBH I am stoked! I wanna take this opportunity to thank everyone here at :420: for their encouragement and advice. Heres to a smooth finish to the grow and a smooth smoke! May all our gardens be forever green!

Seeing as it seems to be a hot topic heres a little trick I used for my defol
IMAG09052.jpg

This works well for my scrog, basically with the light underneath I can easily see where the light is not penetrating. The darkest patches obviously need a little defol or possibly just some leaves moved or tucked to allow some light through, of course Im always careful not to allow any one branch to be too stripped and try to balance it all out. Probably not practical in all situations but works a treat for me. I tend to think a little once a week to keep it all tame shouldn't hurt.

Thanks heaps guys! Speaking of inspection with correct lighting, during tonight's dawn inspection I noticed about four or five of the buds in the most intense lit area have received some burns to the hairs which was almost undetectable under the hps. I have a temp probe right in amongst them and it hasn't gone over 77 for weeks. I lifted the light to 18" from16". Am I right to suspect simply light burn on the sensitive buds or is there something else that could cause burnt hairs?

temperature, light, nutrients and pH are all that cause your plants to suffer a burn. if you have ruled out temperature, your pH is under control and it is not a nutrient burn then all that remains is a light burn.

ph 5.7-5.9 check, temp at canopy level 70-80 check. nutrient has possibly been on the ever so slightly high side balancing on 2.4 overall ec, sometimes slightly drops sometimes rises. Would it be typical to show a symptomatic burn on the tips of buds first? The position of the burnt tips made me think light burn but 16" I would think was adequate distance but maybe not.
Thanks heaps KJC as a newbie I tend to question my logic on what must seem like the simplest things. Im sure experience will bring confidence.

16 inches from the light does sound like adequate distance. I have found that the pistils are the most sensitive part of the plant as far as nutrient overdose is concerned. unless your cannabis strain is easily susceptible to light burns I believe it is nutrient burn, look closely at your leaf tips for yellowing or browning indicating a nutrient burn.

ok ive done a vigorous inspection and even on the leaves around the "burnt" buds I cant see any nutrient burn style browning. The pistils on a small number of buds are almost looking like they are maturing but I know it must be too early yet. The majority have snow white fluffy pistils. I have already lifted the light to 18 inches to be safe and when I do my res change tomorrow I will keep it to around 2.2 and see how that dosage goes for a week.
Thankyou for your advice KJC!
Referring back to a later post, I was reading that the red in the stems and dark green to purple/red foliage can be attributed to a lack of P so I might start running the swell as of tomorrow as that is 5% P and see if that makes a difference theres not much reddening of the stems but still a little here and there and it makes sense as it came about just as bloom set in and obviously its demand for P would have increased.

Oh yeah Im a sucker for trying a new technique and was watching a flick on super cropping "snap method" so I thought I gotta see/try this so once again my poor mother plant copped it and she copped it bad. I will post pics tomorrow she looked pretty horrible but im interested to see the method at work. Im really just trying to get a little bit of experience with everything so I can see what works for me.
