Vex, IMHO a lot more light, and a lot closer, is what is required to give your seedlings the stout stem and broad leaves they need.

Maybe a separate place with a dedicated light, the light doesn't have to be huge but it does have to be closer. Or drop a single round LED down there if you want to share the space with more mature plants.

If you're paying retail for seeds you want them to develop big stems early. It pays later.

Keep rocking it bro.

Peace, Hyena

They are very stretchy and begging for light.. my babies are always super short cause i keep the light as close as i feel comfortable. About 24" with my 300w led and 2-4 inches away from the t8 lights in my germ box. I keep them as short as possible to accommodate my 5' and 6' tall tents.

You could just replant the stretchy babies and they will have lots of stem to grow many new roots once you bury them in the soil.. they will looove you for it lol

Cant wait to see the RADDWC up and running
Long overdue! I figure I'd 86 the A/C, and run a non sealed room. Bringing in fresh air and exhausting outside.
Oh what a wonderful day that will be Vex! Remember to breathe deeply whilst gluing! Jk don't do that lol. Lucky blueberry is getting promoted to Hydro sweeeet!
Lol!!

I hope it works out, man.

Can't wait to see those buckets running! Heck of a setup Mr vex

Thank you Hyena, and Welcome!

Going forward I'll be sure to give seedlings adequate light.

You can give them a lot more light than you think. Here's a shot of what my seedlings usually look like very young with those 300W Mars Hydros down there closer:

This method produced seedlings that are 6 inches wide when they are three inches tall. I'm not sure if it ultimately makes a difference in the final plant...I think by nature plants eventually catch up...but I do think this kind of seedling with a superior initial growth trajectory grows faster, is healthier, and probably allows you to flip them a week or two earlier. That has been my experience and why I use the light blast technique to make stout muscular seedlings. They are also much more transplantable, they take it quite well (if you have to do so).

Heat control with a tiny fan is all you need. Try it. Just an idea to play with but it works.

Peace, Hyena

Im sure it is a great method im just.... scurrrrrd! . I lost my first kush seedling to burn. So I just let them do their thing and bury the stem. I just wish all leds had the same distance requiremnts hahaha.

I do love the stoutness of that seedlings! I suppose working the lights down a little every day may ease my mind and maybe give the plants a quicker veg. Thanks

I can also vouch for the mars 300 in that aspect. I have mine at a fixed height in a four foot cabinet and have had no stretching and it will only burn at less than ten inches, and by this time the plant is usually ready to move into the six footer. That panel has great coverage but much less intensity than the ps lights under 18"

Thanks for the input!

I've decided to cull the 3 seeds that haven't germinated. I'm sure I screwed something up. Oh well.

Moved the ever stretching NYC Auto to a slightly bigger container. She's still a bit long, but I'll manage. .

Lowered the GROWant light as well.

I also pulled the clone of clone, due to limited space in this tent. I'll take some cutting once moved to the new RADDWC.

I'm really liking this new GROWant LED. I've been tinkering with some custom settings. The remote has made it much easier!

I'll post a video of my custom configurations if hopes it starts a nice discussion on optimal settings for each growth phase.

.

The key to keeping the lights closer is:

1) The hand test...if it's too hot for your hand after 20 seconds, its too hot for your plants. And,

2) A gentle fan which blows the air between the light and the plants, and just catches the tops of the plants but doesn't really blow directly on them.

Do this for the first several weeks and it will produce absolutely stout seedlings.

Two weeks:

Remember: Light is food. They can't get too much. Only too much heat is bad so judge by that.

Holy hairy wang of Gerbil Vex... Catalina's lean-to is filling up again! Can't wait til they are chilling in the rad! I don't think you did anything wrong necessarily, the beans, while fat and juicy, were very thick skinned and I had them fail one after another until I went nuts with the emery cloth on her seams. Did the trick but a loss is still a loss. There seems to be a recent upsurge in member-produced F1 hybrids though . I'm sure you will come across something interesting along the way!
