As long as you support the branch, it will be fine, no problem, just stay away from it.
 
I am not sure what your old nute schedule was. I use General hydro product, with Diamond Nectar and calmag and armor si, and mammoth p oh yes z7, and earth juice hi-brix also and thats my veg mix. Around 1100 ppm or so but i run high and see if she will tolerate it some and most would disagree with me. But i wanna see what she can handle and adjust always start at 1/4 to 1/2 strength

Experiment.....I read that if you do that it actually stimulated the host into expanding the root system as kinda like a defense mechanism. Plus I wanted more light to beam on the smaller less developed colas.

I don't know if it worked but I can tell you after I did it the inner foilage took off but I did not cut all of them.
They were strategically cut

If it was me, i'd discontinue the old nutes, and when they dry out again, flush them with about 3 times the pot size with water. Keep checking runoff ppm as you flush, when it reads same as water you're pouring in, then give them like 1/2 dose of new nutes. . Then next feeding full dose. You can get away without the flush, but I'd flush .
