Ronnie, So I am thinking about going hydro from soil grows and so far I like your set up more then any other I have seen. Last night could not sleep cause had ideas going through my head. I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to start...

I was probably going to be a getting a 4 X 4 grow tent and total of 400-600 W LED. And over time I may copy this set up to have multiple 4 X 4 tents in one room. So I want to be modular. Do you Think your current set up could be modified to fit into a 4 X 4, with the cooler and reservoirs outside of tent if necessary?

Should I start with one RainForest module stock to try it out? Or maybe your setup from completed grow?

Lastly, do you have schematics for your current setup and/or from last grow, or were you just winging it?

hey crawdaddy, glad to hear you want to go to a hydro set up. personally I will never go back to soil.
for a 4x4 tent I would go with one rainforest and copy my first journal setup. you could use 1/2" or 3/4" tubing and have your controller res outside the tent. the only problem with that set up is that the return line to the controller res can't run uphill that much which could pose a problem with a lot of tent setups cause your access for vents and wiring are up some from the bottom. you could raise the unit , but then your losing possible height. might be able to use two pumps one for each return and supply. I could draw you up a basic diagram and help if you have any questions. my first journal has some good pics of that system build and i'll draw you a diagram and post later.

I would not recommend the rainforest by it self because of a couple things. by itself there is no way to maintain a constant water level or control water temp. I feel you can grow 3 smaller plants or 2 very large plants. with 2 lg or 3 smaller plants in that unit water levels can drop fast, daily top off's would be required. you could put frozen bottles in res to help keep water temps down but they float around touching the roots and the roots don't like that. the only way for this unit to truly super charge the res with o2 is for water temps to be kept at 66-68f. at that temps water holds massive amounts of 02.
this is why I converted it to a recirculating system from the gate.
running hydro a water chiller is a great investment.:)

Thanks for that great answer. If only going to use one unit then be easy to fit res inside tent. If only do 2 plants a tent in the end that would keep my count low too.

Anyhow just some initial thoughts, I am at least a month or two away from purchase, got my outdoor grow and testing my new strains under my LED test grow. Then I am thinking something like your set up from first grow but maybe 4 smaller plants to start, still got more beans to pop trying to find that right pheno.

How hard is it to make the recirculating water in the rainforest bucket and to make sure good seal? I have like zero plumbing experience.

When I get close to set up, I may ask for more specifics.

+ reps for the DIY screen, very similar to mine but yours is better. I was restricted by my closet size so had to use a smaller PVC which isn't quite as rigid as i would have liked.

I'm going to build a second screen for my second closet and I'm definitely gonna make a couple of changes to the design. ;)

So with the taller branches you pull them back under the screen as they grow above it, correct?
