Transition period?

So I switched to 12-12 light cycle on July 6. The seed website recommend a 60 day flower period. Is there a transition period that needs to be taken into account or do I count the days starting from July 6?
Let me throw some common sense and logic at you and this should solve this issue for you and anyone else reading this.

When you set your timers to 12/12 you tell the plants to start making the switch. Does it happen immediately? Of course not... all you have done is signal to the plant that it is time to change processes.
It does take some time to convert from growing new leaves and nodes at the growth tips, and instead grow a flower there. It takes 7 to 10 days to make that conversion, and when it finally happens, suddenly a bunch of new pistils will explode out of the center of the growth tips, and it usually happens overnight. This right here, is finally your first day of flower. Veg has finished upon completion of this transition. If you start your bloom period at this point, you will almost always be in sync with breeder recommendations on flowering length.

The first day you see pre flower pistles, is day one of flowering.
Sorry... got to disagree...
I see pre flower pistils on all three of my plants still in 2 months of veg... this is not flowering. Flowering or bloom is not a pre-anything... flowering is throwing out pistils in abundance at the growth tips and there should be no confusing a full blown flower with a pre-flower down lower on the branch with 2 or 3 sets of pistils trying to get pollinated.

Lol. I'm sure that's the truth! Been a long getting here already. Good luck with yours.

........Ok.. Think they're ready yet? :laughtwo:

As I mentioned, you will get lots of different opinions as to when to start the count. Some will just word their opinions it a bit more amicably that others. LOL.

Regardless, the fun (and long!) part is just starting. Wishing you an abundant harvest!

@The Bard
Thanks again! Appreciate it, and can't wait too see them buds  Fingers crossed.

@Emilya
I love your opinions, advice, articles etc. Seriously do!! They've been most helpful along with my own mistakes :) But sometimes they come across rather harsh hah.

Gotta disagree with your first paragraph which clearly states, I, and others in this thread, lack common sense and logic. First, things in our world certainly don't always go by common sense. If I walk in a store with $11, and the owner is selling an item for $10, common sense to me (and Europe lol) dictates I can buy said item.. However taxes in Canada are common knowledge, so we all know the item costs over $11.

Second, I feel especially in the indoor world, if switching the light schedule is what initiates flowering, whether they show the next day or not, it would be a perfectly logical date to go by. And a very concrete one at that.

But anyways, thanks for info! If the growing world and the seed companies go by first day of lots of pistils, then good to know :)

lol... man, some people these days are really looking hard for ways to be offended. I never once stated or implied that anyone else had a lack of common sense or logic, I simply allowed you to see some of mine. Please do not be offended when I point out a fact as I know it and call it logical. I don't get any points for mollycoddling, and I am known not just here for being brutally direct... sometimes more direct than people are used to. Imagine what it would be like to work for me! lol

Lol. Well this is how I read it...

We didn't know the answer to a question.. when you say "throw some common sense and logic", which was the answer.. that states the answer is solved with common sense and logic.. which we must not have had, as we didn't know the answer. Lol

But everyone reads things differently :) And guessing your right, I likely wouldn't work for you anyways :laughtwo: Atleast we still have the freedom to have different personalities lol

So in the typical left leaning fashion of the day you now feel it is your right to tell me that you would like me to restrict my speech. Although I know good and well that I have tons of practical experience, knowledge and common sense, and after a very rigorous education have turned out to be a very logical person, somehow according to you, to state this as a fact is somehow offensive?

You say, "we must not have had, as we didn't know the answer." Please re-read the thread to that point. Only a few had commented correctly, stating fact and not opinion, and others were off in the weeds talking about other things. I felt the stated need to add some common sense and logic to the thread that was really getting nowhere to that point. Obviously, the OP still did not know the answer. I simply provided my analysis in my typical forceful and hopefully convincing manner.

Yes, I am a written word bully. Deal with it, please. My PhD allows me this luxury, as there are very few who can keep up with me, written word or otherwise. This is my style... I write with power while trying hard to convince. I am not in this to make friends, I am here to educate and to make this weed legal. I am reasonably sure that me being so bold to brag on myself here will offend you too... but I did it anyway, because I can. :)

We do have the freedom to have different personalities, but you do NOT have the right to not be offended or somehow think you can restrict what I say or how I say it because of some cultural rule you pull out of nowhere and basically call me rude. I called no one person out, as I have been known to do in the past, but I did attempt to put my words, my logic and my common sense right up at the top of consideration in this thread. Such is my right and as a powerful writer I do it all the time!

You don't have to like me, but you do not have any say over what I say or how I say it as long as I stay reasonably friendly and keep within the rules.

Hmmm.. My statement was "you CAN sound rather harsh."

Not asking you to restrict your speech. Not saying I don't care for you.. in fact my post stated the exact opposite!! saying I like your help, opinions, articles etc. You have been most helpful.. Keep it coming. Also never said you were rude?

You state "provide in my forceful and hopefully convincing manner".. That's all I said too :) Forceful opinions! Not a bad thing. Again, I like them. Kept em coming. Was never offended. And not a fashionable left winger either lol.

Thats cool tho. What's your phD in?? Something to do with growing believe ive read before?.. Again, different personalities ;) I would never say:

"Yes, I am a written word bully. Deal with it, please. My PhD allows me this luxury, as there are very few who can keep up with me, written word or otherwise."

Yes I don't care for that hahaha. An education doesn't mean you should bully others. It's not because it's offensive. Not cause I'm asking you not to speak this way. Only because it comes off as cocky to me. I have an engineering degree in chemical engineering, and have my teaching degree in piano! Also close with classical guitar. I've still never stated I'm better than others.. that they can't keep up..

Okay now I'm rambling on. Summary. Not offended lol. We very different people. That's great that differences exist!

I am glad that we can get along while understanding that we are different types of people. I do get arrogant sometimes, especially when my way of dealing with a subject is not challenged on its merits, but because of its presentation, as this is a sort of ad hominem attack on the writer while refusing to discuss the argument given. This sort of argument was never allowed during school, nor is it acceptable in the business world.
I am very impressed with your accomplishments too, and you more than many can keep up because of your mastery of the written word, but also keep in mind that the thesis that I worked on for so many years was an attempt to put together all of the persuasion and writing ability I had available to give, and not many people have had to write a dissertation and present it to a panel whos job is to try to pick it apart. When you have gone through that horrible process, there are very few who can keep up with you afterwards when it comes to researching out and logically stating a position, and indeed this is why I mentioned the PhD. My degree is in Economics by the way, with minors in Business Administration and Marketing, and with my undergrad work in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. I always wanted to learn piano, but somehow the ability to play an instrument has always evaded me, and I admire that in you and of course could never keep up with what you do there. We all not only have different personalities, but we all have our own unique talents... mine apparently is pissing off people.
Sorry for the little tiff... but I doubt anyone will forget what I had to say about when flowering starts. :)

It boils down to it is a just a "number" and they are not at peak time to harvest until they are ready/done based on whatever you base it on (another one of them areas of a "too each their own"), which could be on either side of the magic number the seed company gives you (usually later than their number no matter what method you use to determine when to count). I've done both and it just more to give me an idea/reference more than anything I go by, as there is lots of variables that will affect how fast they go (cooler temps, less lights on time, etc... can kick them into a different gear just like outside ones). Kinda of like the numbers they give you for how much you will get off of it, your results will vary all over the place based on the 8,000 variables at hand ;) I have had same Strain harvest a few days different (usually less than a week but they weren't "ready" the same time) than the other one I had going at the same time, and some Strains have more pheno's than others depending on how stable they are.

Yes, I don't want to minimize a PhD and how much determination, knowledge, skill, intelligence, etc. would be needed for that. I'm 99.9% sure this is something I couldn't achieve. Don't have a lot of the skills needed.. such as writing!

Feel it is important to get along with people, regardless of opinions. Wish government officials lived by this a bit more at times.. I mean, we don't all have to be best friends lol

But anyways, back on topic!

My girls really sprouted pistils today! 7 nights in from schedule switch. Still leaf growth and such though..

Welcome to day 1 of flower... exactly 1 week later than you might have called it before this discussion. Mark both days down, and let's see which is closer to the breeder's recommendations as to bloom time.

Ok don't want to blow this thread up with my pics.. last ones!

Without another night of dark yet, the pistils are exploding. Certainly day 1... Also the thickest stem, which is Gelato 2, already looks like she took over for the biggest future Cola!

Here is Gelato 2

And a couple more example of first day pistils!

Alright, alright. I'm done! Haha
