Thank you! OMG! It was soooOooo tough! So it is a double glass door. First hurdle, the door is bigger than our last door so Friday we prepped. This involved so much sawdust and plasterboard. I was the cleaner, measure checker and runner. My man has a terrible history of not measuring correctly. In hindsight we so should have used drop sheets.
Second hurdle getting the doors upstairs. It too heavy for me to even get it off the ute let alone up the stairs coz we can’t fit it through the front door so we have to take the scenic route. So we need an extra person, guy next door is at work, high functioning autistics next door is no go. Way too much audible stimulation for them. Heavy lifter next house down is out. So we go to the completely deaf neighbour across the road. So imagine, two heavy lifters, one deaf, one semi heavy lifter (me). It legit turned into some politically incorrect skit. My man popped the slider out to make it lighter. And we gotta get that motherfucker up two flights of stairs manoeuvring it from horizontal to vertical to get up the outdoor staircase.
So we are lifting and have no gesture communication, and he can’t hear. He’s old school deaf. He relies on sign, basic lip reading but mainly sign.
ME: I need a rest!
*heavy lifters keep going both with backs to me*
Me: I NEED TO REST A SEC!
*heavy lifters keep going both with backs to me*
Me: STOP!
Me to my man:
HE’S GOT HIS BACK TO ME! STOP! SHAKE THE FUCKING DOOR! I’M GONNA DROP IT!
We finally got it up. Yesterday was spent putting the door in and out fitting it. We are both backyard builders so what would have taken an installer half hour took us 9 hours lol. Last hurdle was lifting and sliding the door in, and that was done at around 17:30.
He is going to finish it and he has given me the day off today, so I’m going to hit the shops. We are going to a party tonight and the theme is Christmas head dress. Fingers crossed I can find something. Worst case I dredge out my mini Christmas top hat
