Trala’s Tent

Your updates are kickass Trala!!! Such beauty to behold. Don't worry about the nits...are those aphids or mites? I meant to ask this a while back. Unless i already have but forgot.

That's what my wife says all the time, while holding a shovel and duct tape. I don't understand.

EVERYTHING about this is right up my alley! Neem meal is incredible. I prefer insect frass for the chitin that Azi gets via crustacean meal. I have not personally used karanja, yet, but it is another excellent product.
They are Spider Mites. Or sneaky mother fuckers as I call them.

I thought you could only use Neem in veg.
Bwaaahaaahaaaaa!!! Looky here lady. Just shut your face, listen up, and do as your told!

Holy hell!!! That is A LOT of spray on your plants throughout the week. Was this recommended by someone or your decision? I'm not saying it's wrong. It just sounds excessive is all.
I know. But I just don’t know what else to do. They get their leaves sprayed clean each morning for build up. If I don’t see a live nit on any plant I skip the treatment. I can count on one hand how many days I have been able to skip, look maybe two hands. I think it’s around 8.

MC Mimosa EVO is the main offender. I have started nipping off effected leaves too. I read in here somewhere that a poster does this in combination with spraying. If she has a couple of nits I treat them all coz they are all so close in proximity.
I keep my foliar sprays for pests to a max of every other day for a couple weeks and then back off. Changing up products is a good way to reduce resistance. I love Dr. Bronners soap. I use it too. For all the reasons already mentioned.
Rea I just don’t know what to do. They can infest in so shorter time. That’s exactly why I swap it treatments each day.

What’s your exact mix with Dr Bronner?

Somehow you always seem to take the top shots. Plant looks great, the pool looks great, as well as the weather.

Now if you can stay focused youll hit these 4 out of the park for flower. No pruners for you... You've got this!

Im off to go climb more hills. Hooroo for now.
Hey bloke :)

Thank you :)

Omg I’m trying my best to stay focussed believe me! I have put so much work into this grow.

“The hills are alive with the sound of hooooo rooooooo…..”

Hey do you Cooooooooo weeeeeeeee in the bush?

middle of the night and sleep evades so if this goes horribly awry….

I believe Miss TraLa you purchased Dr. Bronners for this

Copied from Jan 20….
Ahem, cough, cough, - so this flies mostly below the radar….. it has been said that 10 parts rosemary oil mixed with 90 parts water plus a drop or two of Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap is the home brew equivalent of a popular spider-mite control product. As to the source of these salacious rumors and upon the advice of counsel - I can neither confirm nor deny these statementz….
Thank you!

I’ll get some rosemary oil today :)

I’ll make it up and add it to the regime. I reckon that Bug Boss does sweet fuck all.

The best treatments are the soap one and the clean one. The iso is just prophylactic I think.
Agree with Baked… great to have a bevy of IPM products but I’m afraid if you rotate thru that often critterz might become immune. I ignored instructions on spraying Spinosad and got the mother of all soil mite infestations… it turns out they were beneficial mites but at that time I didn’t know it so I nuked the soil and plant to death
Well I just don’t know what to do. All treatments say do it when you see live nits. Well not all, the iso doesn’t have directions lol, but the soap one and the clean one. Look now I’ve typed that I’m not 100% sure, but I’m 96% sure.
edit to add

ditto Azimuth - Neem Seed Meal as soil additive or LIGHT top dress since it’s a fert in its own right at 6-1-2

Anywho despite ramble - yours is the greenest, most picturesque crew in the land!!!

I could never get tired of that scenery….:love::love:
Thank you.

I’m really working so hard to give those Mimosas justice.

I’m open to feedback and advice. It is a really big job spraying so obviously I’d love to do that less lolll. If anyone has a better way to treat nits, I’m eager to hear it. I just don’t want them at unvaxed epidemic proportions like I saw with Mimmy.

Plus it's less work, so there's that.
I’m all for less work, but not if less work today means making my grow life harder tomorrow.

Work smart not hard ;)

Hey Tra, the place is booming! Mim is getting sooo long in the cola! Keep up the good fight, it shows! :green_heart:
Omg Mr Otter!

OMGGGGG! Don’t mention the war! Mim is dead ☠️ She was murdered by an overemotional sleep deprived psychopath. #bipolarbear4lyf #DiariesOfAMoron #50ShadesOfTra

That’s my Peyote Critical, I call her Merrie Bee, and she is looking lethal. One of her Coca-Cola’s is as big as a fucking coke can and I’m not even exaggerating.

It has been a full time job growing this lot!

^^^^ defs exaggerating, but they do take up at least 5 hours per day, and when I say 5 hours, I mean 3 hours, and when I say 3 hours, I mean 1.5 hours. Lolllllll

What’s your exact mix with Dr Bronner?
I primarily use it for my outdoor garden and fruit trees. Just like was previously mentioned, it acts as a surfactant for other products too. The soap will kill soft bodied insects. I think you're doing great. The frequency just worried me. I think spraying them with water to wash their leaves is a great idea. I know there are other plant anatomy parts I'm forgetting that are important too.

Source Info

Mixing Instructions:

  • Simply combine 1 tablespoon of liquid soap per quart of water. Mix only what you will use that day.
  • For a larger batch, use 5 to 6 tablespoons of soap per gallon of water.
  • Shake together in your sprayer to thoroughly mix. Use warm water to promote mixing.
  • For light applications, mix them in a small classic spray bottle. To treat a larger plant or area, we use a half-gallon pump sprayer – to create more soap spray, and also reduce the need to repeatedly squeeze a “trigger” during application. If you re-use old cleaning spray bottles, make sure to thoroughly wash them out before using them in your garden!

If you can source some additional soil amendments like neem seed meal and insect frass, it will be a good way to make them steer clear of your plants to start with. If you get really determined shits that insist on feeding, then you have your sprays. 1st line of defense is exactly that. Help the plants build a defense, a force field against them. If they get past the defense, then the offensive foliar sprays. I struggle with bugs too. Finding multiple methods to combat them is a good approach.

I must admit that I was VERY fortunate to get @Sierra Natural Science SNS209 to try out. It is an amazing product and after your plant's cell walls having taken in the product, the bugs stay away or die if they choose to eat it. I know you cannot get it there. Which totally sucks!

But what if like @013 mentioned about making your own stuff?!

The struggle is so real. I’m just so scared to leave them extra hours. When I checked yesterday, as always MC had live nits, it was just one leaf, but it’s so annoying. I must have missed that leaf when spraying or they were new hatchlings coz there were like 10-20 live running nits.

I always hit em with the hose on waking.

What’s a quart? Is that a pint?

I will do it today. I can only mix what I use with the clean spray too. I use approx 500mL to drown all plants. I only give Merrie a whiff coz she is so heavily in flower.

There is no nasties in my soil. Well I don’t think there is.

I will do today :)

Change of topic but…

I am so excited today! I have a whole day to myself and I’m LIVING for it!

I am literally going to drive for an hour to pick up my lunch today, then drive another hour back home to eat it! My goal is to only speak to Myuki, who will no doubt be my server. She knows I drive an hour to get it lolllll.

I’ll post a pic. If you like sushi it will make your mouth absolutely water!

It's watering already!

Congrats on day off with zero commitments, you so deserve this

clove and rosemary are the 2 biggies…. but one problem is you water a lot…. it’s hard to do systemic that way…. cuz you need to water the plant first but then put the systemic dose on last so you are not watering down your meds…does that make sense??

there are a few different formulas depending on whether it’s soil drench / foliar application or the systemic version.

Tra, I don’t know beans, still the greenhorn here but believe if you can stank up that plant- then critters will flee, that’s basis for new bio-pesticides…. using nature to fight nature.

what Azimuth said Neem seed meal or Karanja cake
tiny bit of rosemary and/or clove makes biomass reek or inhospitable to little shits & nits.

might be easier to add dried clove and rosemary as top dress but IDK…. something to think about?? We did get MrSauga to step into the flavored thread long enough to say this kinda dried herb as top dress concept should be fairly well tolerated by the plant

peace out!

Yeah me too. No I was gifted that one and another Shiskaberry. They are around a year old and have been subjected to high temps and high humidity in that flower room. Do you think that fucked it or do you think it’s me? Two from two dodgy seeds sounds like a stretch.

Yeah, I definitely think the way the seed was stored has a lot to do with its failure. We keep our seeds in the fridge.

Hope you're enjoying your day off.

Curious Tra, how exactly do you store your seeds? Im gathering from what you said here you meant storage.

Do you place them in something like a small resealable bag or container?

Yeah, I definitely think the way the seed was stored has a lot to do with its failure. We keep our seeds in the fridge.

Hey HG can you give me a bit of a description like where in the fridge (high, low, crisper) and what you keep them in?

How long do you keep them for?

Just interested in how to keep seeds for longer and whats working for others.

@DV8 ,

I keep mine in the fridge, lower shelf and way out back behind other stuff. A darkened and sealed container is best to block the light. An amber glass jar would be perfect.

The consistent low temperature and low humidity is very helpful to long term seed storage. Some folks even advocate keeping them in the freezer. I've had no noticeable degradation in germination rates even after 5 years and more.

If you don't keep them in the fridge, but just at ambient room temps, the fluctuating temps and humidity levels throughout the year will significantly affect germination rates as time goes on.
If you're just keeping them a year or so it might not matter much, but anything more than that and the fridge is your friend.

When I want to plant some I take out just what I need and put the rest back in the fridge as quickly as I can. I want the storage group to have as little time out as possible, and I certainly don't want them warming up to room temperature. The rising temps can also increase humidity levels and further degrade the seeds chances of sprouting.

:ciao:Hi Tra. Looking good over here. My only concern with the Dr. Bronzer’s is the Peppermint in it. I bought some in 2020 for my spider mite problem and I was told not to use it due to the peppermint in it. I recently washed my dog with it and he came out beautiful and clean, but when I used it in the shower for myself there was a bit of burning sensation under the arms and in the “lady parts” area if you get what I’m sayin’…. I would hate for you to burn your plant due to the peppermint so please double check that it’s okay to use the peppermint variety? No offense to anyone here…..I was just surprised about my reaction to it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Not really. Make sense I mean. I water with Tega Brop *taps nose* nutes every water. I’ve stayed at 2g/2L coz that’s where my plants tell me they want to be based on green. I’m not sure what part of my bud is being watered down based on that.

I have to water a lot. My natural LUX averages 150000 what ever it’s measured in. Every day my plants are drooped with thirst.

My soil isn’t the problem. Well I don’t think it’s the problem. Spider mites blow in or ride in on the backs of ants. They don’t breed in dirt. They breed on my leaves. So it’s been my leaves I focus on. Touch wood, I don’t have any other champers outside the occasional grasshopper. I’m only interested in treating foliagely atm.

I’m really happy with the nit infestation right at this moment. MC mimosa is by far the worst. If there is a live nit it’s always on her and I’m considering keeping her separated. I’m not really focussed on messing with the soil as they seem to be growing well in the mix they are in. At this point anyway.

I think one of my issues is never being rid of them due to cloning. Every single plant I’ve started as a clone had nits. Right from the word go. I’m not going to clone anymore, I’m going to focus on seeds. I think how I start will determine how I finish. And having a baby nitless plant will help with that.

Thanks for your input :)

I know!

I bet the Shiskaberry is fucked too!

So far so good :) I’m about to cook tonight’s dinner so I can just reheat tonight :)

Short answer: Stupidly.

I just kept them in my flower room.
