Totally Indoor Grow 1st Time!

I have one uncle with hydro room, uses good genetics, Checks his plants almost daily. As soon a problem starts to show he is on it. Gets a good harvest of two poke smoke.

I also have an uncle in-law. He sits at the edge of his veg garden smoking last years harvest. When he finds a seed he literally throws it in the garden. They get no special treatment. He may cut down a male plant but then just leave it lay to be tilled in with the tomatoes at the end of season. He gets a good sized harvest from just the ones that live of six poke smoke.

Watching these two guys, high as fuck, arguing what is the correct grow method is like reading this forum at times. Neither is wrong, neither is right. Time and equipment can improve your odds and quality but plants just fail sometimes. On the other hand it is just a weed. let it grow.

Keep this in mind when people answer your questions. Most everyone on here has the best of intentions but sometimes you are talking to the wrong uncle for your grow style.

Keep us updated on your grow, and good luck.
Well said my friend. :thumb: :ciao:

Thanks for replying!
I know it's only been a week, but I want to do weekly posts with Picture/s .

Looking good! You are over the germination hump and starting true growth. Do you have a fan on them? You need a light breeze keeping the plant and soil surface dry to prevent fungus. Dampening off is your biggest threat at this stage indoors. The tap root is set. let it do the work and grow stronger. Only mist if it looks wilted.

Thanks for replying! I appreciate it.
So, your saying don't wet the soil too much? I want the best for this grow.
I do have a fan. Two to be exact. When can I start to feed these plants? I forget from last year's crops which came out great!

The nasty microbes that cause root rot, dampening off and such thrive in low O2 conditions. Water blocks O2. You want the soil surface, leaves and stems dry. Gentle movement of the branches promotes stronger branches and promotes photosynthesis. Water towards the edge of the pot so the roots grow out to the water. Let the soil dry between watering. This promotes the plant to grow a deep healthy roots. A strong healthy plant starts at the roots. So when you water, let it run out the bottom of the pot so it is soaked and flushed with new nutrient. When it gets noticeably lighter and the top 1/2 inch is dry, it is ready to be watered again.

The plant is just now starting to use it's roots for more than just an anchor. Normally when the first serrated true leaves grow in the roots start taking up food and water. In soil you are good for another 2-3 weeks. In soilless medium you can go 1/4 strength. Continued under fed plants grow slow with lowered yield and quality. Continually over fed plants die.

Posting pictures once a week is a good rate. Often enough to track growth and catch potential issues without being overwhelmed with posts. The point in creating a journal is to get suggestions and share results. Remember this is archived so future growers can use it as a reference for there grow. I am starting some Panama Red soon but it's been 10 years or so since I last grew it. Started reading old journals and I had forgotten how much it stretches' in flower. Old journals saved me from out growing my room.

Very well stated and 100% accurate! Let the plant tell you what it needs and trust your gut. Failure is just learning how not to do something. CL🍀. :thumb: :cheesygrinsmiley:

:thumb: i didn't know your experience. So when we want to get them to flower we change the light timing to 12 hours of day and dark times. They are photo sensitive plants and this is what triggers flowering. We do it(flip the light timing) in the lower third of our tent so they don't grow into the light. Some of us grow in tents, some in boxes and others in closets and bathrooms. In the open isn't an option that I can see indoors.

Isn't that the hardest part of answering questions from people you don't know on here! Never know if they are going to get ticked because they think you are talking down to them or aggravated that your not answering the question with enough details. :lot-o-toke: Can drive ya to smoke!

Ollie, Ollie Oxen free, I have another question for thee. As you know, I'm a first-time indoor grower and would like to know some things about soil and feeding.
How soon can I start to feed my plants and add some more nutrients? I unfortunately purchased sub-par potting soil and feel it needs something more. Also, what can you recommend for liquid fertilizer and on a budget??

Lots of members are using dry nutrients because they are so ez to use and pretty much fool proof. @GeoFlora Nutrients are very popular and low priced. CL🍀

Thanks for your time!! :)
Do you have any other recommendations for nutrients from a more local supply? This link seems to be a dead end. Any products through Amazon or from Fox Farm's?

Fox farms makes a dry nutrient line FFHF but what’s the best NPK for what you’re growing I’m not sure 🤔. Maybe another member has more experience with it than me. CL🍀. :thumb: :cheer:

Well. It's been raining for 3 days, and my outdoor plants are only partially hidden from it. I'll have to move the pots under the carport??
The indoor plants after only 11 days are doing just fine. Starting to sprout a couple of new leaves. Just babies, I know but they're my first dispensary seeds and first all indoor grow!
Taken today, Monday the 25th.

Does anyone know how close my LED light can be to my plants? Right now, I've got them about 2 feet apart.
Hey Sal, I use an app on my phone called Photone. It's a free download that after loaded you choose what type of light you want to measure, then for 5 dollars american you unlock that section and now your phone is a light meter. In the Planting suggestions you see the PAR suggestions for Seed, Veg Cutting, Veg, and Flower.

Using those numbers will help you get a feel of things.
This document is for my Viparspectra XS1500 Pro. 150 watts with a 2 x 2 footprint. They're all a little different so I like to use the Photone app to hit the PAR amounts through the stages.

With them being generic amazon lights (I assume), otter is right. That is the only way to accurately answer your question.

But you can get a rough guideline or starting point. I could never get those apps to work but I haven't tried in years. The power draw should be written on the light. Don't trust it is accurate but it will get you in the ballpark. You want 20 to 50 wats per square foot. If you are at 20 wat/foot 12 inches away. Every added wat is 1 inch roughly. So 50 wat would be 40 inches away. From there you can read the plant. If it stretches between leaf nodes growing tall and lanky it needs more light. Leaf tips curl up then turn yellow too much light. Give enough light until the tips turn up then back off a little.

No matter what you need to read the plant. Genetic strain also determines light tolerance. In veg, my Lambs Bread is happy with 50wat/foot at 8 inches. But Christmas tree started to curl at 27wat/foot at 12 inches.

Thanks for the advanced explanation. Now I'm more confused than I was before.
All I can see on the label is that it says 100W, the rest is wiped out. The only paperwork was an installation sheet and that's about it. Nice, huh?? You see, I didn't buy it. It was ordered for me. On the site it says " 1000w" but on the actual light it says "100w". What gives?

LED'S are often marketed in HID equivalent terms. 100w is probably close to what it actually draws for power from the socket while the 1000w is what it's supposedly equivalent to with a HPS or CMH light.

But, 100w is the figure you want to use in determining watts per square feet.
