Hello, cannalover! This is my take on compost tea. I's basically a breeding station for microbes and fungi. I put in some rich soil and green leaves, add air to promote aerobic bacteria (needs oxygen to live). It also extracts all water soluble nutrients. This added to my pots will make the soil more alive and add more organisms that provide nutrition to the plant. Note that the plants give half of their energy collected back to soil. In exchange the microlife in the soil breaks down the substances that would be otherwise inaccessible to the plant to swallow as food. I hope it won't stink so much, haha. Cheers! :Namaste:

Eureka! The HPS is in place and so we bumped up the lights in the tent by 138%. I hope the girls will like it and the temps will go up some (today 20°C=68f). Thank you all for your kindness and time! Have a nice day. :Namaste:

Bet their loving all the new light. ;)

Oh I'm sure they will, I will check on them tomorrow. Gotta buy chains for the HPS hood. The buds are still curing the moisture just do not want to go from the jar. Opened everyday for 5 minutes, well one needs to be patient :) I will keep you posted!

Hey there Tomula.. checking in on your organic grow.... everything looking mighty fine. Good job buddy.

I'm looking at your compost tea there... Why don't you add more water?? That's going to be REAL strong so you will need to add water either at watering the plants and/or at this bubble stage. ... dilute FTW. It will still work fine. Less is more. I make teas with a lot more water AND dilute them.

I skimmed .... errr skipped to the last few pages, what is your soil mix made up from??

Your post above is spot on for organic growing... 1000% ...reps for going the organic way. Your flowers are going to taste soooo gooooood.

Compost teas are great for sure and you should try some malted barley tea once the girls get going with flowers.

Keep em green my friend and keep the organic faith. You can take all of this to your outdoor gardens as well, if you haven't already.

Cheers :Namaste:

Hello Bob! Welcome here. Thank you for the kind words, I will check your grow for sure. Yes I did add more water and it will be diluted some 1:7-10. My soil is just recycled soil with organic matter I dunno what is in it, I just know it works :) It is few years old compost basically. I will make better soil with some perlite added and gypsum dust, maybe even some sort of phosphorus amendment, but in spring or summer I do have enough for now. I know they grow more sweet (brix) in calcium rich soil and I think eggshells are also part of this mix. I'll see how they react, the White Russian (harvested) did nicely, some PH problems and thrips happened. Even with the problems the buds are amazing, put simply. Now I use tapwater with ph of 7 and with a lot of minerals in it. Also no thrips and the soil is much finer now thanks to a sieve. Thank you for your insights I will not take this to my outdoor garden because it's security hazard (decriminalized cannabis). But for sure my veggies will love it! I plan to make vermicompost but I'm not so sure about it through the winter. I hope they will legalize cannabis soon here as I want to work in that market, providing the best quality for all in need. Also hemp is a fascinating material. So many possibilities! Cheers! :Namaste:

Just got caught all up everything looks fantastic. :goodjob:
Do you got any words of divine wisdom for me on my first adventure into the world of mainlining??

Hi Spart! I have some. Do check your nodes for side shoots before topping, because you can end up with uneven plant like me (still not bad). Go with your guts, admire your plants. Play with it, there are many, many ways to grow a plant. You can even top from 2 tops to 8 in one cutting, meaning if the lateral branches are big enough you can top twice at once (I hope this makes sense). The plant will make it no problemo when vegging. Have fun, that's what I do. Keep 'em green my friend! :Namaste:

hmmm i kinda get what you're saying I'm truly limited to space with these bunch my end goal was about 60gram/plant on 4 tops say 15grams a top which I think is doable 2 plants 8 tops 15gr /top 120gr..... I think I was better off in the 7L :)

Yes man, whatever suits your space and style I know you will make use of it, 4 tops will be more easy on training, so why not. The 60 per plant under Mars 400- I think if you keep it close enough and maybe with one or two CFLs on sides it can be done. Also very dependant on strain. Good luck! :thumb:

Yeah I guesstimated 60/plant just because of last grows I've always gotten about 120-140 grams. The 400w has a draw power of like 180w minus 20% for lens and glass I'm hitting normally what this light is suppose too. The 400w in my 60cm x 60cm covers pretty well during flower.

(little pictures no need to spam)

So you're really getting a 1/4 lb rather than 1/8 lb on a regular? I have been operating on the premise that a good grower should be able to dial-in to around 1g per watt am I wrong to be striving for this goal? And should I be looking at it from 1g per watt per sq ft of growing room or 1g per watt per plant or 1g per watt total of all plants in growing room?

;)

Well really a goal any lighting system normally should be a gram/draw watt but this is also strain dependant as well. When dialed in I've seen a few people get more with the pro models and even more with the pro cree. Adding a co2 bag during flower also the grams a soaring. But yeah if you got the series 2 400w light aim for about 100-180grams (180grams seems to the unicorn anyone says different is lying) the 700w has a draw of 305ish watts so aim for 250-305grams and you'll hit it. Keep in mind this has a to do with grow style and training and so on and so fourth. Also some plants and strains like the spectrum better it seems. Some actually reach up for the leds others lay really flat and spread out its kinda cool. Hps didnt have that problem because the spectrum was more everywhere if that makes sense at all. I'm pretty stoned  :high-five: oh also with the lens and glass on the series 2 you waster about 18% of light actually produced for the wattage, 8% lenes and about 10% glass almost like with a cooltube compared to without.

:thanks:

Man yeah I understand you and I'm stoned as well. You just cleared up a lot of stuff that was dormant in my brain, I was using co2 bags in the pass but didn't know what I was trying to improve, my pass yields have been 4 solid zips and around 2 zips of popcorn which I didn't include in my final dry weights so I was getting close to those numbers with a 700 if I add them to the equation. But man I never thought about the girls being that individualize and the fact you'd have to run each strain several times just to see those differences. And I had read a few threads where cats are saying that its safe to take the glass cover on the 700 off to increase its output too, haven't tried it yet but I did read it. Thanks again man and yeah I'm stoned and got the munggies now too.

Hello guys, this man has the knowledge about the lights:

Giveaway light build part 1: diy led growlight design - YouTube

I agree the light will work better without the glass. Also the 3W LEDs are pretty old tech and not much powerful. I do have dry weight of the buds now and it is around 75g. So that's a shame, but I guess I did expect it because the light was just too far and too small for the tent. That's why I did that poorly, nevertheless the buds are super quality, just amazing. I need to get more P to my soil and get myself a better light. Also I think the modern strains cultivated in bottled nutes are pretty much used to that and crave the chem-boost in the flower. You can do up to 2g/W under the COBs. No way to do that under blurple light, I think when you mix 3000K-4000K cfls to your lights it will improve the spectrum very well. I now know no Mars lights will be purchased by me in the futrure but I dig their tents, great, robust and for a very pretty price. But that's just my two cents and I do not have enough info about the pro series. Also if you want to upgrade, I've found this:

GrowHack: MARS to CREE conversion DIY LED grow light - YouTube

So my guess is up to 250g under that modified light.
Do not take it wrong, I have nothing against Mars, there is just 2016 technology, which is better. Cheers! :Namaste:

Ive got two 600w HPS in a 5x9 tent. I took the 3rd 600w out in Aug. due to temp. and $$$. Should I add it back now that all is well with temp and $$ due to the cooler weather. Im starting my next tent run end of Jan. and common sense says put that 3rd one back in, if I can afford it. The tents rated for 2000w and Ive got a bad ass exhaust fan. Im experimenting with cost to run the tent and have figured no way HPS in the summer!! Im figuring two crops a year in the tent.
Put the 3rd HPS back in???

Yes you can if your wallet and wall plug can handle it. You will get better coverage of your area. That will get you to a 40W per square foot and that's very good. You can even experiment with vertical gardening, but for that you need glass tube cooled hood. I guess you can run one light during the summer no problem. Great grow you got there, keep it up! :Namaste:

So I was installing chains for the rest of the lights. No visible problems with temps around 25°C (75 f). They are all growing very well. The smallest one growing 3rd node. Herer in veg is gonna be a big girl. Did a decent defoil on all of the girls and I will flip around Sunday. Pics on Saturday! I will be making new filter next week and document it well, adding it to my existing thread. Thank you all for stopping by and keep 'em green (or purple)! :cheer:  :cheer:

I got my 700 back in the fall of 14' and it was advertised as having 5w didoes and I hope it wasn't 3w's overclocked to 5w's. I'm not financially ready to upgrade any time soon but I still like the lights I got for now, I probably won't go back to mars lighting either. But I checked out another vendor and if and when I'm ready I'll probably go with them. They had better stats on their lights than mars, however mars was the best entry level lights that I could find at the time.
