Tips on harvesting, and when to harvest cannabis

Lurch Farmer - good tips on scent and masking it! I do the same with the jars. Pretty thorough and creative brother! :thumb:

Hiker - I do a fair amount of it by feel to a point, then I put these in the jars and let them do the leg work. If you do it right, you don't have to worry as much about the burping part after a bit, as these will keep the RH right, and the cure going without interruption. Just have to make sure they are dried appropriately first, so that the humidipaks just need to maintain the conditions, not try to make up for incomplete drying process...

Wiz - Thanks bro!!

One new tip to share, I learned the hard way...

It's important to have a good RH when drying bud. If it's too low, it may dry too quickly for a cure to start properly - then, taste will be poor to bad (not good!). Ideally, the RH should be in the 45-55% range during drying, but there's a trick if things are a bit dryer: leave the trim leaves on (remove large fans only) until they are dry. As they start to dry, the trim leaves will help insulate the bud from the dry RH conditions, and keep the bud from drying too quickly and retain some moisture inside. This might be a good way to go regardless of RH, but is probably essential if your conditions are a bit dry (much under 40% or so).

Some of my Vortex from this past grow didn't cure well, in part due to this problem. It was too dry, and Vortex had small buds by her nature that dried too quickly on me (some of them). I was lucky in that I took some of it down more quickly and it was fine, but some was left to hang-dry longer, and I missed the cure a bit. Doh! I might have avoided the issue more easily had I left trim leaves on until drying was complete.

I wait till the snow is gone then take the trunks from the winter grows grind them up and walk around a mile or so sprinkling the "hood" to mess with the pooches, its fun to watch,:cheesygrinsmiley::cheesygrinsmiley::cheesygrinsmiley:

Sorta like Johnny Potseed

You gave me a new idea though. The goal is to make the cops not find YOUR house, so make it seem like it's another house. I think I'll grind up some of my leftover stems and sprinkle them all around a house a couple doors down. Or maybe pick a couple neighbors? Of course I can't do every house but mine or it might get obvious! hmmmm I'll have to ponder this one. Part of me wants to take my pot powder and sprinkle it all around the police station and courts. Maybe I can break all the drug sniffing K-9's in the area! Haha! My town is so small though, I'm not sure we even have any drug sniffing dogs! :biglaugh:

Hey X. I have one more question about the humidipacks. I know with regular silca gel packs, you can "recharge" them in the oven. Does this work for these items as well?

No, these will eventually lose their functionality unfortunately, but they seem to last several months for me. Unlike silica gel, these work 2-ways. They will add moisture if it's needed, and remove it if needed in order to keep it at roughly 62%. They won't cause mold or similar issues as they are sterile. They're amazing handy little dealios fo sho! When they start to go bad, they firm up and start to become less "liquid" feeling inside and more pudding-like/firm instead.

Cool! Thanks for the additional info. I knew it also added moisture as needed, that's why I wasn't sure if they were reusable. It least it's nice to know there is a way to tell if they are "worn out".

I'm going to pick some up. I'm hoping to keep a few buds from this first harvest for several months to compare to future harvests. This is the only way I can think of to compare potency. There is no way I can compare from memory... "oh ya, this is way stonier than that stuff I grew 9 months ago bro!" Ya right! I can't recall what I ate for lunch!

Thanks again X. btw, do you even want rep anymore? lol
