Themaddabber's Hempy Bucket Bathtub Grow 2017

Wow Abbie had already turned almost completely upwards in the last 12 hours. She seems to be reacting very well to the LST so I pulled her down again.

Gloria looks well. Her growth below the snip is already reaching vertically, and tells me the snip was successful. Only time will tell if I got the top or the fim. I wish she had the extra leaf to recover, but she's resilient and I am confident in her ability to recover.

Measured light looks like we're right at 36 37 inches above plant tops. If they seem okay this weekend I'll bump the light down another 4 to 6 inches.

Time to make the journal rounds. Catch you all tonight with some pics.

So last night I went in for the top think I missed and got a fim... one thing I didn't miss, a fan leaf . Light just came on time for a peek. I also tied Abbie over mutant side down :)
When I did my tops I didn't snip. I just carefully bend the tip till it just pops. Hope this helps some what if u plan on topping again dab. I think it's my h easier then snipping tbh just cuz u know u got it all if that makes sense. Glad the girls are doing well and yes u will find that u have to keep adjusting the ties downs as in finding out quickly. Come home everyday and when the lights come on i have to get them out and spend some quality time tightening things up a bit.

Yeah I realized almost immediately I chose the wrong tool for the job :/ I think I'll drop another bean this weekend since Goldie decided to flower. It's amazing how much I've had to learn and relearn even with some growing experience lol.

U could definitely do that. And yes as with anything in life, learning never stops.

You think I can over train her? I mean as long as she doesn't snap that's fair game right? I really want Abbie to thrive despite her mutation... and get her strong side going vertical.

Also I put the fan and filter in the shopping cart. Idk if I'm tripping but I swear I keep getting little wiffs lol

I think LST can be overdone if it's not done with care. I don't think tying down a struggling plant is a good idea, but once healthy growth begins, gentle training starts, with more and more tying down as it goes. The plant needs to get used to the idea of growing in a different direction.

I have been running into a school of thought here that is to untie plants when they flower, based on a theory that keeping it tied down stresses the plant and keeps it from developing large buds. I don't believe that at all, from a theoretical standpoint, from an experiential standpoint, and from an empirical standpoint.

Theoretically, once a plant has been trained to grow a certain way, it's no longer under stress. That is just the new shape of the plant. From my personal experience, see Blue 2 as a plant that wasn't in any way stunted by keeping it tied down in flower, and I even continued to pull it when it was loaded with buds to maximize air flow and light. And finally, espalier has been performed on plants for thousands of years, including many fruit trees, and are never untied. Every vineyard you see has been espaliered.

Train gently and listen to the plant. But wait until they're able to handle the stress. It may be "low stress" but it's still stress.

Man could you STOP posting the grilled chicken in the late afternoon??? You're killing me too! ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees that!! Every time I open my subbed journals... there's the grill and there's the chicken... all the others have dried bud, or greenhouse shots, or baby plants... everyone except Themaddabber... chicken...

I try to be a man of multiple talents ;) I'll update here soon and hopefully it will change... Honestly it makes me hungry too! And the leftovers are gone :(

Okay quick pic update!

Gloria. Her roots are making roots

Hopefully we won't have to stare at those delicious chicken legs any more

That's on my bucket list. To see the northern lights show.

Forgive the somewhat Canadian beginning to this story but...A friend and I were snowmobiling one day. It got dark early as is normal for winter in these parts. At one point I looked to the north and I could see this bright deep red semi circle above the trees. Like super bright half circle just sitting there. I stopped and showed my buddy. At first we thought northern lights but the colour was like nothing we had ever seen. The shape was bizarre too, localized, not spread out like most light shows. We flipped out and raced home. Showed his parents and we went driving towards the light to investigate further.

When we finally got close it turned out to be a rare display of the lights. But spooky as hell. Never forget that and in the last 25 years have never seen anything like it again. Still find it weird when I think about the shape, colour, and location.

Nice light show and the big dipper as a bonus! V cool :thumb:

Who builds flat roofs in snow country though?
I keep wondering the same I expected much steeper roofs? And they even have slats that appear to retain ice/ snow??? Maybe it's like an igloo the use the snow pack for insulatuon. Idk been here 6 months and still can seem to figure that one out. Lol

Thanks for sharing urb! It's really truly an amazing experience everyone should have! My buddies getting rid of his camera to upgrade, so maybe I can get a great unit at a great price. I really struggled to capture these because the setting requires 10 seconds of complete stillness on my phone but when I was able to rest it on something the results were amazing for a phone in my opinion. It would also help to be able to edit them on a pc in Photoshop. I have a ton of settings and adjustments, but just need some practice and patience learning to ropes.

Swagg you probably could see them if you head north a ways. There's nothing more spectacular. I almost crashed the first night they were out. They way they dance and move across the sky is majestic!
