TheFrizz Is Back! VC/DC, CBD Therapy & Northern Lights Medical Grow For Mom

I wish i could have tried to clone her but i dont have a place for them really, soon hopefully. Plants are looking lovely as usual!

What do you think about having the lights off 24 hours before flipping them to 12/12? Im going to have to do that to have the light on during the day

300W LED 2x4x5 Tent Soil Grow

Many growers actually do this intentionally and I tried this with my Blue Dream grow! The idea is that more time in the dark causes the plant to build up more flowering hormones, accelerating the flowering process slightly. I don't know for sure if it helped me or not but it certainly didn't hurt my yield!

Very nice progress here! The hydro surely makes the veg time a speedy process. I cannot imagine the root ball if it was pruned at one point of the plant's early life. As for the soil- I suggest for the next time you can start her off in a small, high and narrow container, then you pull her out and take the roots and spread them like spider's legs and bury her that way. Or start her in wide and low container. You see, the roots are growing mainly downwards and from one point of the stem, so pruning/training of the roots will make sure she is utilizing the container better.
Or you can check out my Olla irrigation which water prunes the roots and attracts them to it. Then another way to make the most of the smartpot is to having space under it so that the air can flow there. I was also thinking about some kind of spacers, to force the plant into growing wide rootball, but I think wide container should do the trick. I transplant only once or not at all, to give the plant maximum amount of time to get used to her pot and soil. Refractometer is also a great thing to have, because you can check how is she doing in terms of potency/soil health. Anyway, you do what you are doing and the results will be there for sure! :bravo:  :Namaste:

Thank you so much Tomula for the advice about root development, I will definitely pop by your Olla irrigation setup and learn as much as I can! There was a grower around here, I think Monsignor, who had a cool design with a SmartPot suspended in the air in the midst of a PVC frame. I might give that a shot when I move them into their new veg tent in a week.

Also, thanks for the idea about the refractometer! I bought one a few months ago for my food science research but I haven't used it on cannabis yet! Should I juice the fan leaves to get the sample? It would be fun to compare the brix levels between the hydro and soil plants. I have read that hydro tends to have lower levels of brix compared to organic soil, but maybe my babies will be the exception!!

Ive had this weird schedule where the light goes off at 8am and comes on at 2pm so i have to have a full 24 hours of darkness if i want the lights to come on at 8 am

Toasted Im no expert but 3-7 days after flip should show sex. Mine did right away. If your going to do anything wierd its best to do it quick and once and as soon as possible so they can recover. I dont think a 24 hr dark period before flip will hurt. Should make them show sex quicker. Great Day!

Cool, you have one! You pick one medium sized leaf from the middle of a canopy, get some pliers, make the leaf into a small ball with you hand and then press a drop from it with the pliers. You can make cool experiments with it. Finding the best mineral balance for them. Do it at the same time of a day to compare. Sweet :)

Shit is getting real! And I'm forever chasing PH! Haha

Hey guys! Jtay (my neighbor) just started his first grow journal First grow- Wonder Woman +- 4x4 Tent -1000W Light -DWC. His setup is identical to my first grow:

-4 plants manifolded to 16 main colas each
-DWC
-1000 watt MH/HPS light
-4x4x8 tent

I will be supervising him each step of the way and also use this as an opportunity to pilot the strains Blue Hyena and Black Hyena before I run them in my own tent next grow. :cheertwo: The other two strains he will be running are Northern Lights and Wonder Woman.

Our goal is 3 lbs of top quality bud. This means that each of the 64 main colas needs to have an average weight of 0.75 oz/ 21g. If you look back at my harvest spreadsheet from the Blue Dream grow you can see that many of the colas hit this mark. With additional knowledge gained since then, I am confident we can hit the 3 lb mark or come very close to it!

P.S. Please forgive Jtay for any formatting related oddities, he is posting from an Ipad so it makes it a bit harder. I will jump in if needed to answer questions or help explain the methods being used :) :Namaste:

Alright folks here is Day 2 of the 7 day countdown to flower! I performed some heavy defol on Muffinz today, and my boyfriend did likewise on Sidney. I want the 16 emerging growth tips on Muffinz to have as much room as possible to spread out. As nice looking as those fan leaves were, condensation was forming and they were just getting too crowded for my taste.

Here is Muffinz before her haircut

Annnd after

Then we have Sidney before

GLR_Day_2_010.jpg

And after. She is about 3-4 days behind Muffinz in development, so she gets to stay with 8 main colas instead of splitting to 16 :)

Here are some whole tent pics, the front two ladies have perked up since their grooming session yesterday. I want about 50-60% of the tent to be filled before flowering, then the stretch will fill the rest of the tent with colas!

Tune in tomorrow for Day 3 as the countdown to flower continues!! :thanks::Namaste:

Thanks for coming aboard BigNugz! I can't wait to check out your work as well! :circle-of-love:

Man that is the one thing i hate about main lining. You go nuts with the shears and they yellow right out from the stress and take a day or so to green up again. Poor lil girls! lol

This is true, the "aesthetic appeal" is not always there with this method. Luckily we care about buds not leaves in the long run! :cheertwo:

Speaking of buds, here are some of the cola tops from my first grow after curing for 4 months. Thanks to manifolding, each plant produced a forest of these!

Derpy- 2nd from top
Purple- 3rd from top

Hello and welcome to Day 3 of the countdown to flower! :thanks:Just 4 more days til we start the stretch :cheertwo:

Jenny had already rebounded from defol yesterday and was towering over everyone again. GRRRRR!!! So I supercropped her tallest branches and then stripped off pretty much every fan leaf longer than 3 inches to expose the whole length of each cola. I have started bending and training some of the longer lateral shoots a bit, they will fill in the spaces between the main colas.

Day_3_GLR_004.jpg

Monique is coming along nicely, I will probably give her a trim tomorrow. Today all I did was bend her branches out slightly to start exposing the inner lateral buds to light.

Here is Muffinz, she has grown slightly since her complete defoliation yesterday. I will be interested to see what her 16 teeny tiny "colas" look like 9 weeks from now?!

Day_3_GLR_002.jpg

And finally the lovely Sidney. By the way she might actually be a Wonder Woman seed and not Northern Lights....that is a story for another time lol.

Profile of the tent. You can start to see the invisible "scrog" net.

I also added 1/2 tbsp each of the two Jack's 2 part feed to the reservoir to compensate for the additional nutrient demand due to my heavy defol. Current grow stats are as follows:

Air temp- 83 degrees F
Humidity- 37 %
Res temp-67 degrees F
Res pH- 5.85
Res ppm- 434

Just 4 more days of veg...yay!

:thanks::Namaste:

Thanks very much Dankest! I posted my clone method a page or two back. The difference is that now I have them all sitting in pH 5.5 water together with hydroton to hold them up (and I think it looks super cute!).

At their current location in the tent the clones are receiving approximately 24k lux which I believe is suitable for that stage in development. :cheertwo:

No white pistils yet but they are still relatively young :)

Thanks for the positive feedback and I am excited to hear that you will be making slingshots from your plants as well! Perhaps we can have an EPIC DUEL and launch buds at each other from across Puget Sound, yaaaas?!?! :thumb:

Checked out your clone method and I like it a lot. If my current method doesn't work out Ima try yours. I'm doing one AI clone from Hope in my small bubble bucket with Wendy the willow plant. Wendy's roots are taking off but still no action on Hope's clone. Both are doing good under the 600w mh. I look forward to seeing how your new girls do :)

That's absolutely hilarious haha. Sounds like a great time though. I'm down to brown town. And an epic duel it shall be! I'll have to replenish my stash but I'm so stoked for this.

I'm glad I'm on board for your transition to flower! 3 more days? :cheertwo: I'm curious to see how these girls do compared to your first grow with the Blue Dream. That setup of yours knocked my socks off and I'm still trying to find them lol. Hope your week is going well :Namaste:

Did you know that willows can be used to create a "natural" rooting hormone? I just read about this the other day, you essentially make a tea/brew from the fresh plant growth tips in the Spring. It contains salicylic acid and indolebutyric acid, both of which aid in root development in plants. Indolebutyric acid is actually the active chemical in most commercial rooting compounds. I checked the back of my Clonex gel and sure enough, IDB! This might also explain why your willow cutting rooted so well :) Built-in rooting hormone ftw!!

Also, thanks for the feedback on the grow! :circle-of-love: I am uncertain of what to expect this time since each plant looks completely different, but it is my goal to forge them all into a single, cohesive, netless SCROG by the end of it! If anything I see the lack of net as an advantage in flowering because I can rotate the plants each day so that all sides receive equal light. :cheertwo:

P.S. I have not tested the slingshot yet, I don't want to break it. :laughtwo:

Hello folks! This is Day 4 of the weeklong countdown to flower on the GLR schedule! Today is their "rest day", and I did not remove any plant material or otherwise tinker. So, sorry, no pics til tomorrow :allgood:

I resisted the urge to tinker by tearing up the front yard instead! :cheertwo: I decided lawns are a waste of resources, might as well grow something you can ingest. So I am turning my front yard into a U-Pick berry patch!

Today I laid the base for the "strawberry fountain", which will be a layered, teardrop shaped bed with strawberries cascading down each level like a waterfall. At some point I need to start posting in the sub forum for non-cannabis growing, the hydroponic white asparagus I started is taking off like a charm! Did I mention it is growing without using any light? Yay for stored sugars!

See you guys tomorrow for Day 5 of the countdown to flower!
:thanks::Namaste:
